@pelicanguy: and honestly, joplin didn't have much of a warning at all. everything happened unbelievably fast, and the fact that it was wrapped in rain didn't help much. within five minutes was pretty much the time span from the first tornado warning to the actual tornado hitting town.
I believe Joplin got plenty of warning about the tornado. Residents had at least a 15-minute lead time on the warnings. Sadly, many people - not just in Joplin - do not take tornado warnings seriously. Instead of taking shelter, many were likely outside trying to see the tornado.
On top of that, the houses and businesses simply couldn't withstand the winds of that tornado, which is primarily why you had many fatalities.
@PelicanGuy I know what you mean about taking tornado warnings seriously, my parents just don't care. One time they just sat in the garage with the doors open, and it was about 22 miles way.
@PelicanGuy The official report indicated that some people indeed didn't heed the warnings, but I'd say the biggest cause was simply that you had an exceptionally intense tornado heading through a very populated area, and wrapped in rain to top it off. Even if everyone heeded warnings, to be honest, not many structures are going to survive 250+ mph winds.
Plus, Joplin did have SOME warning time, but the tornado rapidly intensified into a monster just before hitting the city.
Me (being a storm chaser) saw the ingredients lining up a couple days before and contemplated storm chasing with my father. I instead decided to go to a friends to study for our upcoming finals, but I diligently tracked the weather through out. I pulled up the radar and saw the storm and reformed over SE KS, yet didn't look tornadic at the time. About 10 minutes later it looked like death waiting to happen and sure enough this showed up on TV... With the camera pointing at my house :X

I didnt even lose my electric. How's that for gods wrath. I'm sure that most of the poeple who got hit were good god fearing christians.
@nanerrat Either you're an Atheist, or an idiot. God is a forgiving God. Did you ever consider that you didn't experience God's wrath because he saved you? I do. Keep your careless, doubtful comments to yourself. I tolerate a lot of things, but there are two things that really tick me off:
Cursing, and doubting the Lord. You have done both.
@flyfisherman1997 Yes Im an atheist. Brilliant deduction. god is forgiving?? REALLY?? What say you to the 160+ mostly christian people who he did not forgive that day. Or to those still suffering from injury, or who had their homes destroyed. Or to me, the godless heathen who flipped the bird at the sky as your gods wrath passed me by. I was spared?? It all seems so random and meaningless doesnt it?
And just to be clear, I do not "doubt the lord", I reject the notion of its existence outright.
@nanerrat as much as i hate to admit it, you are right Flyfisherman1997. I believed as a child, but as i grew up in life, more and more, I don't believe. I think the more intelligent you are the more you don't believe. that is a fact. cause it takes a lot to comprehend.
@jackstrawfrmwchta I've never seen an EF-5 tornado in Nevada. Home of sin city. Big tornadoes happen in areas that generally tend to be quite conservative. Not always though. I mean, the Springfield tornado happened in a blue state that was the first to legalize same sex marriage. Not saying that everybody in the Midwest is conservative, but generally this area tends to be. Natural disasters happen because that's the way Earth works.

This is my favorite video of the entire tornado... being at graduation and driving home when it hit I didn't get to see this... so thanks for recording it, low quality or not its still cool to see.
@tophlovr Cable television is sometimes on the same power poles that accommodate power lines, and most of those signal boosters that are required with coaxial cable networks are also reliant on the mains electricity. Your real survival tool in this type of disaster, apart from a basement, or reinforced interior room on the lowest floor of a house or sturdy building is a battery operated radio. Might I suggest an Eton Microlink FR160 for those cramped closets or bathrooms?

I'm not sure what radio station ya'll were listening to but Zimmer Radio was on the air 2 hrs. before the storm hit with weather alerts and wall to wall coverage on all 6 of their stations. They have been credited for saving countless lives so maybe ya'll should change what radio stations you listen to!
My family lives on the west coast and the news there said we had a 45 min warrning. Not sure if thats true or not. But I guess the west coast news said they had stopped the grad. at MSSU and let us all know. I was there and no that did not happen. But what can you do? it was rain wrapped and even though all this damage happened so many lives were spared. So many good people came to help. This town has came together and we have so much love and support for our friends and neighbors.
For what it's worth, something needs to be done to coordinate the efforts of storm chasers, local media (TV and Radio), and the National Weather Service... Maybe a designated frequency on communication devices that can be monitored (similar to fire, police, and ambulance). The storm chasers knew what was going on, the radio stations did not, the other TV stations did not, and ultimately, many of the citizens of Joplin did not know what was coming. A method of getting everyone together is needed.
@tallfarmboy I think (but I'm not sure) that they communicate with the tv stations through ham radio. I know that spotters, chasers and the NWS can communicate with each other through ham radio because I'm a spotter
@tallfarmboy I haven't heard anything specific, but in my own experience in Northwest Georgia this spring, amateur radio operators were on the cutting edge in providing reports on the seriousness o the situations that presented themselves. Our Skywarn operations link up numerous repeaters around the state to the NWS office in Peachtree City, south of Atlanta. On the evening of 4/28, for example, I was sitting in a basement with my ham radio against one ear while watching the Atlanta TV...
@tallfarmboy ...stations, and I consistently heard ham operators stating specifics about the storm to NWS, and then withing 2-5 minutes, hearing them reported by the guy on TV.

I was at 7th st & rangeline when I saw it hitting. I ran for shelter in the Northpark mall. I'm new to the midwest & My first experience of this kind of whether and at it's worst no less! Blessings to the people of Joplin.
@DeanyJeany I think a good deal of people were in the same boat. Not one radio station knew what was going on until after the fact. The only local news media that had an idea of what was going on was KSNF-16. It happened FAST! Glad you are here to tell about it.

Thank you big oil and coal for lying to us. Thank you for ushering in the extinction of mankind. Did you really think that God created planet earth to send thugs like you down here to destroy it. We are in a lot of trouble right now......
our politicians have been lying all along. We were warned and we ignored the warnings. An area the size of Texas is under water. The north is now setting record heat waves. The west is ablaze with fires that have consumed millions of acres. This is just the tip of the iceberg. It is going to get worse- a lot worse.
Climate scientist told us this was going to happen. So far everything they predicted has happened. Mankind is on the brink of totals self destruction. I hope I die so I do not have to see what is coming our way. Millions will perish.
KSN's Gary Bandy, about two days before this tornado, showed that the weather was setting up for potentially powerful storms with the associated fronts and dry line. Caitlin McArdle, the female voice in this video, did a wonderful job on the air, warning about this possible tornado being rain wrapped and possibly not visible when they spotted it on the tower cam. I was watching this broadcast live and was shocked to see it as well. Her and Jeremiah saved many lives that day. Thank you KSNF!
@kadekix Can not agree with you enough... I've stated it before, but the radio stations were BEHIND this storm and only following the NWS. The last update from the NWS was what Caitlin had just read... Public report of a funnel cloud in Galena... If anyone in Joplin was watching this video, it SURELY saved many lives. For people in cars, who were listening to the radio, they would have NOT had the latest information... and may have been very well taken by surprise by this tornado.
@tallfarmboy If I'm understanding your message right, you are saying that the NWS never said there was a tornado actually on the ground? The NWS has no way of knowing in a there's a tornado or funnel cloud even unless someone reports one being spotted, radar can ONLY tell if the storm is rotating and thus capable of producing a tornado, it can't see a actual funnel or if there is a tornado on the ground, That is why TRAINED spotters are so important. That is likely why the radio never knew
@arohn2007 This is the type of coordination I am talking about. There were a great deal of TRAINED spotters following this storm. However, the information that the NWS was broadcasting (while the tornado was on the ground) was that there were reports of funnel clouds in Galena, KS. If the NWS, TRAINED spotters, Radio, and TV had a dedicated radio frequency for relaying this vital information quickly... it could have perhaps saved a few more lives.
@tallfarmboy Actually, the NWS and spotters (and I think TV stations) do communicate through ham radio. I', a trained spotter, thats how I know for a fact that NWS and spotters can.
@tallfarmboy because the NWS didn't know. NOT ALL funnel clouds turn into tornadoes (when it actually touches the ground). So for that reason, you if hear of a funnel cloud being spotted, take cover right away. And its also possible that even though someone spotted a funnel one min. and no other reports came in to the NWS to confirm anymore sightinghings that no one at the NWS thought there was anything to get too excited about, when in fact, it had touched down since the last report
@tallfarmboy and nobody could see it to report it. (unless they happen to see alot of power flashes) A trained spotter is even useless in those situations at spotting a tornado
@kadekix even tho the tornado was rain wrapped it was visible until it came into close range. when jeremiah said that the first power flash could have been from lightning i became very angry. it was obvious to me what was goin on. and i sat at home screaming for everyone to take shelter in joplin. im sorry but when you see a power flash in the four states you take cover. REMEMBER PARSONS 2000
@TheCemetarian Do I remember Parsons?, no, I did not live here then. Stockton 2004, Iris Road, Joplin, 2009, Yes I was there storm spotting...I think the power flash was mistaken for lightening. I can see how Jeremiah could have done this, especially with the chaos going on in the station, the rain on the camera... but, who knows? If he had not see one before, he has now! Betcha he does not forget it either. Regardless, I believe they did a job well done when they realized what was going on!
Don't know who this clown @TheMightykaz is but he/she is NOT associated with KSN television. I know this because I am the Chief Meteorologist of KSNF TV. The female is Caitlin McArdle, the meteorologist for our morning show, Hometown Today. The male is Jeremiah Cook, our weekend weather person. These two saved a lot of lives that day and I don't understand the motivation of @TheMightykaz. And just for reference, TV stations do not let "business associates" on the air.
This is a really good video which clearly shows the tornado as it entered Joplin. From this vantage point, the tornado appeared to be well contrasted and clearly visible. It didn't appear to become rain-wrapped until later in it's life-cycle. It's very unfortunate that the tornado developed suddenly and over a highly populated area that likely was desensitized to tornado warnings due to their high frequency of occurrence. Thoughts and prayers to all those who have been affected.
I would like to know the location of your weather tower in relationship to St. Johns Hospital. I was in the hospital. I am having a hard time with the minutes before the tornado. I looked at the clock at 515pm. The weather was beautiful. The next thing I knew I was getting patients out of their rooms and into the hallways and riding out a tornado. Wow......
@spencer13lee What are you talking about?! The weather was awful at 5:15, in fact it was awful at 4:30! There were super cells forming all in Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma. It was definitely remarkable, glad I saw the storm coming from about 2 days earlier and had prepared for it!
Regarding a tornado's forward speed. A tornado can evidence no forward speed and hover in one place a significant time. Some tornadoes move slowly at 10, 20 or 30 miles an hour. But tornadoes have been recorded as moving forward as much as 70 or 80 miles an hour. Tornadoes also can, and do, change forward speech at different parts of their paths. The Tri-State statistics are accurate; they appeared in major newspapers at the time and have been verified over and over.
Actually the urgency in her voice would make me run as fast as I can to take cover. You don't want to cause panic, but when the thing is THAT monstrous, you want to be taken seriously. Boy her urgency would've done it for me. In fact her urgency makes me want to take cover now, even with a clear sky and in MD.
My mom lost her home, and we moved out of a home 2 days before the tornado made it disappear. It Is devastating, but Joplin is doing ok. We are pulling together every way we can to be there for one another.
@lkop09nowbterp Actually, the woman's voice on here is not even an employee. I heard she was a woman who does business with the station & had stopped in to take shelter. And they had the right to freak out! If you live here, you would understand that the location of this tornado, heading in the direction it was heading, meant it was heading straight into a VERY heavily populated area aka....right into town. They had sounded the sirens a LONG time before this, then the situation changed
I was in my car headed to work. Drove East on 20th from Rangeline Rd. behind Home Depot and parked in lot on Davis Blvd. couldnt see where to drive. Still can't believe I walked away from a EF-5 with just scratches and a few bruises. Final public death toll is at 134 with zero missing. Our city has lost good friends and family. RIP
.> there's my complaint... Just as I complained about when Pitcher, OK got wiped off the map. This NEWS CAMERA had the HUGE TORNADO on film... yet they were running a Severe Storm warning for miles away... in another state, when those poor people in JOPLIN probably just sat there NOT KNOWING IT WAS COMING, cause the idiot news station was running a warning for a thunderstorm in Kansas!!! When Pitcher got wiped out... no one was watching or reporting it; looking at storms everywhere else! WTF?
@TheMightykaz I think there was even extra vigger in their voices because it appeared to be rain wrapped and so what people may think is just rain may be actually hidding the tornado. There are some idiots that don't know what the heck their doing that would go outside and see if they can see the tornado.(which in this case they wouldn't until its on top of them)
I have lived in tornado alley all my life severe thunderstorms watches turn into warnings turn into tornado watches then to tornado warnings quite regular in the spring. We get used to it, & I have even been known to go outside to look at clouds when sirens go off. The urgency in the weather forecasters voices & telling us that it was rain wrapped was very important. Showing us the weather cam-woke us up to the severity. I commend them. They were in the path too, & dangerous was right.
I live in SE Cherokee county that you will see was in the warning area that day. Was getting ready to go to Joplin in fact but kept getting delayed with calls. I noticed it was getting awfully dark in my house. Looked outside & did an "oh crap", turned the tv on & this weather forecast is exactly what I saw before it went off air. Made some heads-up calls to relatives & friends & was heading to basement when I got call that Home Depot was gone :( Still in shock!
I understand the tragedy much better after seeing this video. The news anchors had no idea there was a tornado! If it was not for the power flashes.... It seemed this huge twister of death came out of nowhere on the unsuspecting town. And by the time they knew it was far to late. Bless Joplin
Joplin looks like it should be in the next installment " War of the Worlds" where the aliens devastate the cities..with their blast weapons.....I am amazed at Mother Nature. Sad to see such annihilation from a natural force of nature-tornado. The houses have to change, people need to alter their thinking with houses and there are new housing alternatives..
There is a house in the making that does something no other house does during an F-5..... it drops into the ground out of harms way...=)
Hi All... am sorry to see this happen. I live near Tuscaloosa, and we suffered under a tornado such as this. No matter what happens. I wish you all the best in these rough times.
So who on here wants to buy a house for around $100K that is solar powered, drops into the ground on a hydrolic platform in 60 seconds, has a backup generator for power failures, has a locking cement collar in the ground 30 feet deep, has a hail deflector plate on its roof? Any takers??
Livinity is giving a portion of all orders between now and the end of the month to the Joplin Tornado Tragedy Relief Fund (for those of you who don't know they have TruBlue with resveratol the only proven clinlincal anti-aging ingredient touted by Dr.Oz, PetArol pain relief for your pets, LivinityRelief pain gel which worked great on my neck pain, etc)
To all the good people of Joplin, for what it's worth, may god be with you all. But take heart. Remember Greensburg Kansas. They survived and came back even better. I think you will too.
I remember this like it was minutes ago.... I was studying with my friend for finals, and this came across the TV, my father saw it touch down 2 blocks from our house, and I felt helpless knowing it was so close to them, I told my friend-I looked at the radar, this is an ef4 or ef5 tornado, this could be several hundred deaths.... :(
Those poor people :( I've never been so terrified of tornados...I mean, I knew they could do damage, but this time it was TOO close to home. I live less then an hour away from Joplin, if it woulda kept going, that would've also been my city.
The money should come pouring in from all of the other countless countries that WE help, just about anytime- just about anytime, just about anytime now?
The money should come pouring in from all of the other countless countries that WE help, just about anytime- just about anytime, just about anytime now?
@mrconradhoppe I seen a foundation with nothing but the front door attached and a new sportster parked in front of that door still on its side stand with debri wrapped around it...
God is trying to get our attention. The Lord is very angry because of the wickedness in the world. The signs and wonders that the Lord Jesus told us to watch for are HERE. We are IN THE SEASON. This is just a fortaste of the judgements to come. God's wrath is about to be completely unleashed upon ALL of the NATIONS. Stop sinning and turn to Jesus Christ today and beg Him for mercy!
@mrconradhoppe You don't want to try to drive away from a tornado. They can change direction at any time and the flying debris could be deadly. Also, people driving in a panic could cause accidents and traffic jams.
@Scully1981 Stories of at least 3 people who were in cars during the tornado... They were blown out of the vehicles... one person was sucked out of a car sunroof.
@tallfarmboy Wow, you have really captured history in the making with this video. I am reminded how I felt a few hours after the Tuscaloosa tornado, when the storm was heading for us in Georgia. I was torn between watching the TV and getting myself and my pets into the hallway. I simply can't imagine how those people must have felt seeing that thing coming at them, meteorologists included. Bless them all.
@Scully1981.. Gotta Disagree.. A Tornado's ground speed is only 10-30mph. If you spot the Tornado 3-5 miles away and have a viable escape route you're better off driving away from it. Joplin got hit by a F-5 power storm. Nothing left but a concrete slab on many homes- those hiding in closets-dead. Tornadoes generally move from Swest to Neast direction Seast and Nwest escape routes provide safety.
@Closeoutracer There are many tornadoes especially in the East that travel much faster. Some can travel along the ground as fast as 70 mph. You are correct about MOST tornadoes traveling in a North Easterly direction as a norm but not as a rule.
@BUILDINGWITHBULLION Love to see any documentation you have on a Ground/Funnel cloud tearing along the earth at 70mph.. Date, Time, Year. My comment here was to encourage the safest action to take.. The storms containing the clouds can move fast.. sure. But how many on the ground funnel clouds hit 70mph.. one in 3000??...
@Closeoutracer It is known that tornadoes GENERALLY move alot faster in the East than they do in Tornado alley due to a faster moving jet stream. The one in Springfield Mass was an exception. The one in NYC on 9 16 10 was a very fast moving one. Also tornadoes that spawn out of the outter bands of hurricanes can easily race along the ground at very high speeds. ( Highway speed)
@Closeoutracer Check out the stats on the infamous "Tri State" tornado of March 18 , 1925. Although I am a bit skeptical of exact stats from tha long ago , it states that it was on the ground for 3 1/2 hrs , traveled 219 miles and reached a forward speed of up to 73 mph.,
YES WE CAN! Joplin is "shovel-ready"! I was delighted by Cash for Clunkers. You know! Stuff like this:
watch?v=waj2KrKYTZo
but I have to admit that our great president is a mere piker compared to our Progressive Queen Mother Nature. If only the rest of fly-over country could be reduced to rubble like this, then we would earn the world's sympathy and be well on our way to becoming the workers' paradise that is our destiny.
I would like to see building codes improve to include a shelter of some sort to prevent this from happening in the future....may God bless the souls of the perished and have mercy on the survivors....
We can not say that the U.S. (not the U.S.: a brazélien is an American, a Chilean ... etc. in northern Alaska to southern Chile) are the highest in the world no GOD IS EVERYWHERE AND C. IS HE WHO HAS THE GREATEST POWER OF THE UNIVERSE AND HE CAN DO WHAT HE WANTS TO MAKE EVEN MORE OF LESOTHO "HEAVY" NO NATION IN THE WORLD OF THE UNIVERSE. You understand what insinuating, so do not conceited and arrogant. GOD is the strongest and why he shows you his strength every time you do not comply.
Its amazing that a storm this size hit that small city. i am so sad for the people that have been lost and even more for the property. No one could have ever imagined what the storm would do to that area. This is something they have never seen nor were educated for. They did not have the staff. its just awful and will be for years to come especially when storms keep hitting that area
I grew up in the mid-west. I was told if you didn't have a basement or couldn't get to a shelter, take refuge in an interior closet. That's where we took shelter! How many interior closets did you see in the houses after the aftermath of the tornado. F*** anyone who says anything negative about this TORNADO! I wouldn't like to see them quivering in a closet waiting for the end!

They have been credited for saving countless lives so maybe ya'll should change what radio stations you listen to!

My family lives on the west coast and the news there said we had a 45 min warrning. Not sure if thats true or not. But I guess the west coast news said they had stopped the grad. at MSSU and let us all know. I was there and no that did not happen. But what can you do? it was rain wrapped and even though all this damage happened so many lives were spared. So many good people came to help. This town has came together and we have so much love and support for our friends and neighbors.
DeanyJeany 8 months ago
For what it's worth, something needs to be done to coordinate the efforts of storm chasers, local media (TV and Radio), and the National Weather Service... Maybe a designated frequency on communication devices that can be monitored (similar to fire, police, and ambulance). The storm chasers knew what was going on, the radio stations did not, the other TV stations did not, and ultimately, many of the citizens of Joplin did not know what was coming. A method of getting everyone together is needed.
tallfarmboy 8 months ago 6

Thank you KSNF!
kadekix 9 months ago 7
@kadekix Can not agree with you enough... I've stated it before, but the radio stations were BEHIND this storm and only following the NWS. The last update from the NWS was what Caitlin had just read... Public report of a funnel cloud in Galena... If anyone in Joplin was watching this video, it SURELY saved many lives. For people in cars, who were listening to the radio, they would have NOT had the latest information... and may have been very well taken by surprise by this tornado.
tallfarmboy 9 months ago
@tallfarmboy If I'm understanding your message right, you are saying that the NWS never said there was a tornado actually on the ground? The NWS has no way of knowing in a there's a tornado or funnel cloud even unless someone reports one being spotted, radar can ONLY tell if the storm is rotating and thus capable of producing a tornado, it can't see a actual funnel or if there is a tornado on the ground, That is why TRAINED spotters are so important. That is likely why the radio never knew
arohn2007 8 months ago
@arohn2007 This is the type of coordination I am talking about. There were a great deal of TRAINED spotters following this storm. However, the information that the NWS was broadcasting (while the tornado was on the ground) was that there were reports of funnel clouds in Galena, KS. If the NWS, TRAINED spotters, Radio, and TV had a dedicated radio frequency for relaying this vital information quickly... it could have perhaps saved a few more lives.
tallfarmboy 7 months ago
@tallfarmboy Actually, the NWS and spotters (and I think TV stations) do communicate through ham radio. I', a trained spotter, thats how I know for a fact that NWS and spotters can.
arohn2007 7 months ago
@tallfarmboy Also, for spotters that don't have their ham radio license..There's a special number (unlisted) we can call and talk to the NWS directly
arohn2007 7 months ago
@tallfarmboy because the NWS didn't know. NOT ALL funnel clouds turn into tornadoes (when it actually touches the ground). So for that reason, you if hear of a funnel cloud being spotted, take cover right away. And its also possible that even though someone spotted a funnel one min. and no other reports came in to the NWS to confirm anymore sightinghings that no one at the NWS thought there was anything to get too excited about, when in fact, it had touched down since the last report
arohn2007 8 months ago
@tallfarmboy and nobody could see it to report it. (unless they happen to see alot of power flashes) A trained spotter is even useless in those situations at spotting a tornado
arohn2007 8 months ago
@kadekix even tho the tornado was rain wrapped it was visible until it came into close range. when jeremiah said that the first power flash could have been from lightning i became very angry. it was obvious to me what was goin on. and i sat at home screaming for everyone to take shelter in joplin. im sorry but when you see a power flash in the four states you take cover. REMEMBER PARSONS 2000
TheCemetarian 9 months ago

@TheMightykaz I think there was even extra vigger in their voices because it appeared to be rain wrapped and so what people may think is just rain may be actually hidding the tornado. There are some idiots that don't know what the heck their doing that would go outside and see if they can see the tornado.(which in this case they wouldn't until its on top of them)
arohn2007 8 months ago
I have lived in tornado alley all my life severe thunderstorms watches turn into warnings turn into tornado watches then to tornado warnings quite regular in the spring. We get used to it, & I have even been known to go outside to look at clouds when sirens go off. The urgency in the weather forecasters voices & telling us that it was rain wrapped was very important. Showing us the weather cam-woke us up to the severity. I commend them. They were in the path too, & dangerous was right.

rokalilbit 9 months ago
@Scully1981.. Gotta Disagree.. A Tornado's ground speed is only 10-30mph. If you spot the Tornado 3-5 miles away and have a viable escape route you're better off driving away from it. Joplin got hit by a F-5 power storm. Nothing left but a concrete slab on many homes- those hiding in closets-dead. Tornadoes generally move from Swest to Neast direction Seast and Nwest escape routes provide safety.
Closeoutracer 9 months ago
@Closeoutracer There are many tornadoes especially in the East that travel much faster. Some can travel along the ground as fast as 70 mph. You are correct about MOST tornadoes traveling in a North Easterly direction as a norm but not as a rule.
BUILDINGWITHBULLION 9 months ago
@BUILDINGWITHBULLION Love to see any documentation you have on a Ground/Funnel cloud tearing along the earth at 70mph.. Date, Time, Year. My comment here was to encourage the safest action to take.. The storms containing the clouds can move fast.. sure. But how many on the ground funnel clouds hit 70mph.. one in 3000??...
Closeoutracer 9 months ago
@Closeoutracer You are kidding me right? Seriously? Ok just by looking up answers.com it says Improve Answer:
The average tornado travels at 30 mph. Some have been stationary. The fastest moving tornado ever recorded had a forwards speed of 73 mph.
BUILDINGWITHBULLION 9 months ago
@Closeoutracer It is known that tornadoes GENERALLY move alot faster in the East than they do in Tornado alley due to a faster moving jet stream. The one in Springfield Mass was an exception. The one in NYC on 9 16 10 was a very fast moving one. Also tornadoes that spawn out of the outter bands of hurricanes can easily race along the ground at very high speeds. ( Highway speed)
BUILDINGWITHBULLION 9 months ago
@Closeoutracer Check out the stats on the infamous "Tri State" tornado of March 18 , 1925. Although I am a bit skeptical of exact stats from tha long ago , it states that it was on the ground for 3 1/2 hrs , traveled 219 miles and reached a forward speed of up to 73 mph.,

but I have to admit that our great president is a mere piker compared to our Progressive Queen Mother Nature.
