  • nice...yeah!

  • @TomCoteMusic Thank you Tom , ...just listened to 'Angel in Disguise '....lovely sound there, quietly accomplished on both vocs/gtr and song.

  • @jamesfdonaldson thanks Jim..

  • Jim, excellent version of this great old song.

I would love to hear you perform "Ribbon of darkness" MR's style or Gordon's, I bet you would do a fantastic cover. Thanks DS

  • @FlatpickingNM Thank you NM....R of D ?....so tempting , I have played this at home since first hearing...never 'live'. If I can work up something , yes.

    Jim

  • Wow! Fantastic job on this-both picking and singing.

  • @onethumbpicker Thank you sir, ...have to confess , I haven't played that song more than a couple of times since then...might hit it ok on a good day.

    Jim

  • Hi,very good cover brought out your lovely tones,Marty I would not easy to cover.

  • @BABSINUK Thank you Barbara....my vocals chords were more flexible then..LOL

    Jim

  • Wonderful Jim!! The only other Marty Robbins songs I know is 'Ribbon of Darkness' and my fave, 'El Paso'. My mom raised us on country - I can remember her playing her reel-to-reel tape over and over of songs like Tonight Carmen, Walk on By (Leroy Van Dyke) Wolverton Mountain (Claude King) and lots of Johnny Cash. This brings back many nice memories - thanks for posting!

  • @justjoanie67 Thank you Joanie, ...oh, I loved 'Walk on By'......'Ribbon of Darkness' is figuring in my mind, ..have sung it on and off for many years....it would cover my admiration doubly, being a Gord song and MR doing a wonderful version way back...

    Jim

  • Awesome Jim,you nailed this one.

  • @wilmaohman Thank you Jeanne, ...another from the 'archives'....such a lot of choice from Marty....this one was brought back for this gig in '95.....a country venue.

    Jim

  • @jamesfdonaldson I was lucky enough to have actually attended one of his concerts. He would pose for any fan who came next to the stage with a camera,Dumb me I had forgotten to bring a camera. He was also a showman. I suppose that dreamy look we see is because "Carmen" sounds a lot like Megan:-).

  • @wilmaohman Must've been a great experience Jeanne....I confess to turning down the opportunity to go to a Marty concert in the '70's in London , I think at Wembley Arena....with two friends. I couldn't afford it.... They came back with differing opinions on his 'showmanship' but both loved his singing....Megan would laugh at the thought if I said I had her in mind when singing..LOL

    Jim

  • James, this is so beautiful. I could just see Marty giving you the look of approval on this one. Very inspiring to me being a long time Marty Robbins fan and now of course a huge James Donaldson fan as well.

  • @lighthead2toe High praise there Ron... thank you....I keep knocking back 'Ribbon of Darkness'..as it's been covered so much, but hey, the combination of Marty and Gord..........Mmmm...Lol

    Jim

  • I know I already commented .... but watching this a few days later ( and saved it ) .... absolutely brilliant Jim. I love this one . No need for a reply Jim.

  • @evsynator ...hey Evs....merits a nod at least...!!

  • I grew up listening to a lot of Marty Robbins....loved watching him perform too! You have such a beautiful voice, Jim...it really shines in a song like this.

  • @aplacetohideaway Thank you Sharron high praise there.. , there's that folk/country genre we love , and sure, Marty's in there adding a little mexican flavour.....such a performer too, a showman yes, but he could back it up with that voice......some rely on show only.

    Jim

  • Great stuff Jim... love the picking on this one . And a real nice balance on the sound of guitar and voice. You got some really nice memories there in your archive !.

  • @evsynator Thank you Evs.....not much left in the archives tho' , maybe one more , but there's a 'gaff' in it....but still might 'let it loose'. Lol........BTW , love the flatpicking stuff on the channel....can't get good enough for that....have a peaceful 2012

    Jim

  • Fantastic picking Jim. I'm so envious LOL. The song suits your voice so well too.

Love the falsetto... Keep em' coming my friend.

  • @7761864 Thank you Brian.......nothing much to offer in the way of 'new' uploads and this old clip keeps the channel 'active'...anything coming up from your good self ?

    Jim

  • This is a broadcast quality video, Jim.

Beautifully done. Who and why made this recording?

Were you preparing for these uploads long before YouTube was ever invented? :)

And how long does it take to get used to fingerpicks on all your fingers?

    Nice to see you again!

    Zs

  • @Zsolto66 I beg to differ on the quality Zsolt...Lol....All I can recall about who made the video is...the guy's name was Nick , and he just turned up on the night. I was doing part of the show with a duo, singing harmony and some guitar , plus a solo set. He really came for the duo , but I can't use that stuff. Fingerpick use ?..just stick at it. ..Lol..all I can say...thanks Zsolt.

  • Outstanding! Love it! Jim

  • @hasbeensinger Thank you Jim,....there' likely someone out there doing a full channel's worth of Marty's songs , and it would be no surprise to me.....such a wealth of great songs to go at.

    Jim D
