There ARE no fruits of this field anymore. All our benefits are taken away now and a lot of the US jobs are taken away by the offshoring of American jobs.
Whatever was said in the news was absolutely true, since I am a Medical Transcriptionist myself for the past 7 years. It is really good to see that this field has got lot of exposure today. Anybody can join this field and enjoy the fruits of it. Just give it an attempt.

Indian MTs are best in the world. They have a very sharp acumen in transcribing reports and interpret perfectly. No one can really match them.

I agree with layzdaze. Our pay and benefits have steadily decreased to a point where it is very difficult to eke out a living as an American MT.
