Ivoriesman hey i keep playing this version, it's got such a charm to it, i take back the "inferior" remark. Thanks again for uploading these beautiful treasures! & er...i've always had this fear, the needles going to run off the end before the song finishes...actually don't go there! Lol!!
Wow so used to the better alt take version than this original inferior lol it's really horrible!! What were emi thinking! Thanks for posting + was thinking the 78's gonna finish before the song ended hahaha
@wingobingo I don't think you can call the original version inferior - just original. Surely EMI wouldn't have had an alternative take until some time after the recording anyway....
I'm not sure what you mean by the 78 finishing before the song ended - all I can say is that as with all of my up-loads, this is a recording of the actual record as it plays, with no dubbing, digital wizardry, 'Audacity', or anything of that nature. Just plain old analogue. Thanks for listening.
A small advise from a turntable specialise (which I hope you'll read): your tonearm lifts too high and drops too hard on the record. This won't really affect your 78s but will cause damage on vinyl records. Moreover this will increase the wear of your stylus. There should be a small screw or wheel to adjust this. Usually your tonearm should lift half an inch from the record. Hope this helps.
Question for IVORIESMAN: You seem to like your 78s, so I wonder if you can shed any light on the following:
I've owned a few of these old records in the past, and I've noticed that with few exceptions (on the later discs), the year of publication was not given on the labels. Why did the record companies tend to omit this information? I like to know the year in which a recording was made, and I can't find this out simply by looking at the label of a 78.
@marksoutof10 I don't think there is any real bench-mark on this - it's always been a bone of contention. In my experience the date was not automatically printed until 1957. A change in the publishing laws maybe is my guess. I suppose as the years rolled on, collectors became more discerning and pressure was put on the record companies to conform. Someone out there must have chapter and verse.......
Sexual connotations? Strikes me that political correctness was about in the early 60s, we just didn't call it that then. Did the BBC not recognise that the birth of a baby is the most natural thing in the world?
Prince Andrew was born Feb. 1960 so this record will always be just a little bit older than me.
You're a lucky man, let me know if you find another copy !.I have 3 1960 78s which I had wnen I was 10, Delaware, Do You Mind & Cathys Clown on Warner Brothers 1,their first record of course. They are now all framed on my record room wall, they celebrate the start of my life long interest in records !.Roger.
Doubly interesting in hearing the original version and the very last British EMI 78 release in 1960,and in cracking nick, take care of it !.Thanks for the upload..
@flammasherman Many thanks for the comments. I had been unaware that it was the last EMI 78 until posting on YouTube. My interest in this record was initially that it was Russ' last 78 and hard to come by. I was given it as a' freeby' at a record fair, having bought several other records from the same dealer.
@IVORIESMAN Another little bit of trivia about this record is that although it is known that Russ ( Trevor H .Stamford ) composed it to celebrate the birth of Prince Andrew that year, believe it or not for a while ,the BBC banned it because of sexial connections with it's creation.!.

@ivorlottandtonybroke Perhaps the BBC thought that the title referred not to the birth - but to the conception! (Slap my wrist).
IVORIESMAN 6 months ago
@IVORIESMAN Could well be, both the conception and the birth were a right royal event (sorry - couldn't resist that one, slap mine as well).
