Here's a thought ..... what if, given the fractal-like nature of the universe, each galaxy had a single planet that was like the microcosm of that galaxy? And what if Earth were that planet in this galaxy? If it's one thing Earth is NOT it's uniform but what if most other planets are uniform? @AstonPAindaUS Here's an example: The nearest star to the earth is about 4 light years away. One Light year of distance is equal to the amount of distance light travels in one years time. So, when you look at that star in the sky, you're actually seeing it as it was 4 years ago because the light took that long to get from there to here. The Hubble can focus on things so distant that it took the light millions and even billions of years to get reach us. Hope that helps.

@AstonPAindaUS Here's an example: The nearest star to the earth is about 4 light years away. One Light year of distance is equal to the amount of distance light travels in one years time. So, when you look at that star in the sky, you're actually seeing it as it was 4 years ago because the light took that long to get from there to here. The Hubble can focus on things so distant that it took the light millions and even billions of years to get reach us. Hope that helps.

@AstonPAindaUS light takes time to reach us. this means that the deeper we look, the younger the universe appears. if our telescopes catch light that has been traveling for a million years, we see the universe as it was a million years ago.
