arent speed skate blades thinner? just wonering because i was told like hockey skates they were pretty flat, also they are not bent are they? i keep hearing they are .
Yes; Once done with the jig, your still need a burr stone rubbed on the edge of blade to remove the burr from the stone. Hope this helps. Maybe I'll remake this video since everyone likes it. I can explain more.
The "Lip", or burr must be felt on the left and the right of the blade down the entire blade. Continue to sharpen until you feel this. Removing the burr is extremely important.
When you have sharpened and removed the burr, you may repeat the process a finer stone to get a finer polish on the blade. Each time, make sure you feel the burr along the length of the blade.
Removing the burr may curl the burr over the bottom of the blade instead of removing it entirely. So you may wish to give the blade a couple of light passes with your sharpening stone and deburr again to remove the remnant.
Sharpen your skates when you can no longer shave a bit of fingernail off with the blade. Usually one part of the blade (ie inside edge at the ball of the foot) will dull quicker. The more expensive blades require less frequent sharpening.
Thank you so much... my skates wont fit in my local ice rink's sharpener so i have to sharpen them my self and you have shown me how.. many thanks from jack
Thanks for this instructional clip. When I sharpen my Bonts, I am going to add one ingredient: earplugs ;>

Arent you meant to sharpen skates like you sharpen a knife so you get more grip on the ice?

@kikkeruddabut no, the blade doesn't cut the ice, it glides on the water(ice).

thanks,the video helped.
But once you are done are u supposed to still feel a lip on the blades? Is it supposed to be on BOTH sides?
If you skate twice a week how often should you sharpen your skates?
