  • Dear Resident Hypocrite, you may not realize it, but this video actually provides an argument AGAINST your case for governmental healthcare.

BTW, I built the VDOT's EOC (emergency operations center) in Richmond back in 1993 and they pretty much used the same technology and approach. This is quite similar but on a larger, more global scale.

At any rate, kudos to GRT.

  • very thorough interview and to the point. thanks.

  • That seems pretty effective. Did anyone else notice the battlestation lights flashing in the control room?

  • This was very interesting! Thanks for posting this Lori!

  • I'm a Look out Person for the USA =

CIA operative here to rob your poor county.

    13*

  • What a great use for this type of technology- actually helping people in times of peril. Thanks GRT for getting this off the ground and thank you Res for telling your audience about it. :)

  • I am happy !

    It is a beautiful video

    a kiss

    Bye

  • dude, are you a robot? Just checking..

  • Now wait.. This guy says the government doesn't use the internet? Hmmm.. I work for the US Department of State as a contractor who does:

    1. DATABASE DEVELOPMENT

    2. DYNAMIC WEBSITE DEVELOPMENT

    3. WORLD WITE CHAT CAPABILITIES with THOUSANDS of participants worldwide.

    4. WEB CONTENT MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS using WEBGUI...

Oh yes the Department of State is HEAVY into into the internet.

    state. gov

    exchanges . state . gov

    educationusa .state . gov

    fulbright .state . gov

  • Your right! But its really to bad that up to this point, not for coordinating disaster relief operations where it is greatly needed.

  • But then again the responsibilities of WORLD WIDE DISASTER RELIEF does not fall into the lap of the US Department of State. If the UN was doing its job that would fall directly into THEIR laps. Then again once in the UN's lap it would flounder there for 5 years waiting for SOMEONE to make a decision.

  • I agree with Munacra. I understand what GRT is doing, but to say that the government isnt know for use of the internet or innovating technology is simply not true. Probably 80 percent of the tech we use in everyday usage began and was expanded from the government and, as munacra said, they use the internet all the time.

  • I think he means that the governement is not using the internet to effectively gather and share critical time sensitive information/data with GPS coordinates in emergencies, like we saw in Katrina, especially between federal and state agencies. Again at Virginia Tech, law enforcement was struggling to inform and warn students while students were text messaging each other on cell phones and instinctively going to the internet to get timely information.

  • is this guy hiring?

  • the world wide web was origionaly used for doctors to share information so why not use it for this

  • Thanks for highlighting GRT! It's great to hear about the positive things that people are doing in the world. Sounds like a cool place to work.

  • This is great. Good job!

  • nice job Res

  • Speaking of "Katrina Response" how about all those New Orleans police cars that turned up abandoned in Texas? hahahaha.

I'll tell you what, when ICBM's are heading for the US, first the military will know about it, then you'll know about it because police cars will be heading out of town with their sirens blaring, the car will be packed with the cop's family, the family dog, their best rug and one item of furniture will be sticking out of the trunk.

  • Die you Neo-Socialist.....

  • i aspire to work in one of those non-profits.

  • He looks like Donny Osmond, but a dorkier version.

  • I don't like him because only the resident can hold the resident microphone.

  • hahaha, well, i let him hold it. does that make it ok?

  • I wonder if he worked at the Air Mobility Command, USTRANSCOM, or Military Sea Lift Command or Surface Distribution Deployment Center...

  • I think he says where he worked in the full episode on my site...

  • you also have posted a link in the side bar to the upper right of this page. :0)

  • linky no worky.

  • take the extra "." out or the extra "/" (depends on ur browser) out in the link, after u click it and hit enter again

  • oops, this is in response to ShiekUrbooty's comment below about the link on the "more info" section

  • You only show us the surface how about the depths?

  • Sadly, this company is made less legitimate by this video.

  • How so?

  • The link to GRT's website doesn't work.

  • This is one of the best episodes yet! If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself. It's amazing how a little motivation and ingenuity can take you a long way. I'll have to check out GRT's website.

  • Actually, as much as some viewers of this video may find it surprising, the US Navy is big on humanitarian missions. So it is not surprising that a person who served as an officer in the navy in that capacity is now pursuing this as a private sector field. Just like he said, government is good at getting the ball rolling, but eventually it is the private sector that would make such a thing efficent.

  • Now yer talkin'. :)

  • i'd have a stiffy sitting next to her

  • i have no idea what that dude was talking about.

  • I dont know how men can sit like that.

  • it never hurts to help! you are so cool sometimes little lady.

  • The guy looks goofy holding the mic. You should invest in some of that reality tv portable mic stuff.

  • How can someone access the internet if cell phones and WiFi are offline? Paper and pencil is probably the default backup system. But when disaster strikes time can be a critical factor.

  • Hey Res, time to go watch Ben Stein's "expelled" and try to get an interview with Stein about it. I was the only one in the theater, so he needs some pub...go get it.

  • Your ability to extract ideas on such human affairs is very powerful and it must have moved many people to think more attentively and become considerate..i wish u God Speed.

Hoping to see more from the resident.

    Greetings from Pakistan.

  • Quick question. Aside from certain legal documents and historical documents, why do we still use pen and paper in anything?

  • You are so awesome on your videos and what you pick.

  • i think you are passing it with grin on your face about that project , my story teller. Let me ask that sir and who pays for that booming business based on high tech? Why make the disaster in Afghanistan Iraq, lets move to Chine or India there are up to 2 bil. of population. I think it would be even more business for that yang man and the rest of America , God Bless YOU Americans !

  • They sound like a wonderful organization!

  • Really Cool!

  • I want everyone to really pay attention to this company and this guy, this is how you fix problems. Not by " Government Intervention "

The key to alot of the problems is an " Open Market " not subsidizing. Great Job on this Resident :-)

  • Thanks! I agree. :)

  • MrMP81, did you watch the video? At 1:45, Gray admits that the government "is great at subsidizing." Sounds to me like this guy is using insider contacts at the State Dept. to resell PDAs to FEMA or DHS at a huge markup. Just another example of the classic $500 toilet seat, courtesy of you, the taxpayer.

  • To all fundamentalists: Did America do anything to keep the private sector OUT of New Orleans after Katrina?

The mess there is the mess left WHERE THE PRIVATE SECTOR FAILED.

Government often steps in when the private sector FAILS. Anyone who says there is always just one answer to every problem is a fundamentalist.

A fundamentalist is someone who has a hammer and thinks everything suddenly looks like a nail.

    Fundamentalist capitalists are loony.

  • k i didnt watch this whole video but i got the jist of it. 5/5 as alwayse REZ

  • haha, thanks!

  • Is this guy the successor of Obama? LOL

  • "Is this guy the successor of Obama? LOL"

Ha, how can you compare an entrepreneur to a socialist Illinois bureaucrat? The entrepreneur is creating jobs by providing productive employment in the private sector, the other wants to create jobs through wealth redistribution. Besides, I don't think Mr. Gray would be dumb enough to make an attacking statement against the "bitter" clingy people of Pennsylvania.

  • LOL, I only compared him because he got so excited in his speech about his product and because he made res nervous like hell LOL

  • I can dig it Og1! ;-)

Ha, res would have been all over him like Yogi the bear on a picknic basket!

  • Shiek, Gray is hiring? Well, that changes my opinion of him altogether. Resident, you wouldn't happen to know where I can send my resume?

  • uh, if you're looking at this page, look at the top right corner where the information regarding this video is posted by the RES, click "more". Or "mo". Hahahahaha!

  • Though that guy set my PR radar twitching, that looks like good news worth further exploration, thanks for the heads up and another excellent interview. The do good message dovetails nicely into another on theresident . net

The commenter who got two thumbs down? Can I just say, my cousin works for Oxfam and doesn't always have a choice where she goes. When she goes into countries where the West has gone in with weapons and then contractors and the population want to kill her... we worry a lot.

  • Have comments been disabled? I tried twice. Testing, testing!

  • No, but I guess people are having troubles...sorry! No idea why.

  • I request a video where every single word is typed up on a black screen =)

  • thanks for getting off the UFO thing

  • It's a new topic on Fridays. :)

  • Dont listen to him! I really think this is a serious subject and I have the upmost respect for you as a person and as a reporter for giving this subject the professional credibility it deserves. Even if Aliens have never visited earth before its important that we as humans keep in mind the fact that we dont know whats out there watching us and if there is other life out there watching us how are they perceiving us. Keep that open mind of yours!

  • Nice work resi... very interesting.

  • Sounds effective, after that embarassing response to Katrina, America needs all the help they can get! Whats so hard about being observant, Just open your eyes & see! Easy as that. Nice vid.

  • "Embarssing response to Katrina"? That's the problem I have with many Democrats, is the fact that they speak in sound bites and folklore. What was the "Embarassing response to Katrina"? Do tell.

  • The failure to prepare the levys, the failure to evacuate people beforehand, the failure to rescue people once Katrina hit, the failure to help residents who lost their homes and were moved into toxic trailer homes, the failure to hire the residents to help remove debris, the failure to rebuild.

He promised to rebuild it . . . and then he walked away leaving everyone stranded.

    Bush couldn't care less.

  • ShiekUrBooty, leadership is all about image. When hurricanes hit Florida, then VP Gore was there within days. Bush didn't even cut short his vacation post Katrina. A lot of people died while Bush was playing cowboy in Texas.

And you know that Republicans are just as guilty of the "sound bite and folklore" nonsense. IMHFO, that's America's biggest weakness - we get so caught up on WHO is going to solve a problem that we forget about the HOW.

  • "A lot of people died while Bush was playing cowboy in Texas."

Of course, don't talk about the empty AMTRAK train that no one from N.O. got on that left before the hurricane hit.

Also, when the hurricane hit several N.O. politicians (DEMS) were under indictment for pilfering millions of federal fema money the local politicians swindled.

Additionally, since this is not Canada or Spain, can you tell me what part of the federal government's statutory authority covers STATE NEGLIGENCE?

  • You're saying that Bush Jr. didn't KNOW that the government of Louisiana had problems??? How could he have grown up in TEXAS and have been unfamiliar with LOUISIANA???

    HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE???

Is *everything* a surprise to him?

SheikUrBooty, are you pulling my leg?

  • You're saying that the federal government's job is to interfere with the unlimited powers of the several states? We don't live in Spain or Canada.

  • "IMHFO, that's America's biggest weakness - we get so caught up on WHO is going to solve a problem that we forget about the HOW."

    There is no weakness, the us federal govenment's ENUMERATED constitutionally defined authorities are summed up;

    Interstate Commerce

    Import/Export

    Matters of National Security

    Crimes Against the Federal Government

The rest of the powers of government are left to the several states.

The State a Louisiana let those people down, not the federal government

  • Additionally, I had laugh when that weak female Governor of Louisiana cried out, "The State of Lousiana is under MARTIAL LAW!"

That lady was sleeping through her college classes, a state cannot declare martial law! The next day, the Louisiana Attorney General corrected the governor by calling it a "state of emergency".

The only way Louisiana could have been under "martial law" would be if the governor surrenderd or lost the government of the state of Louisiana to the federal government.

  • 10th comment whoe!!

  • i would have figured they were doing this, regular companies have been doing it for years. saves time, manpower, and money. why do the govnt's seem like the least logical and knowledable citizens??

  • Wow, you found a really good interview subject! Excellent work.

  • I agree. I think this young man reflects positively in regards to his company and for modern ex-service personnel who have moved on to the private sector and for Americans in general.

  • Using existing technologies to alleviate human suffering. And this isn't already being done? Good expose and a good solution, Lori. Good job! 5 stars!

  • the government isn't set up to be an innovator? how many modern technologies were created by the U.S. military? with that aside, it is a great thing this company is doing.

  • The US Military didn't create anything but big checks for General Dynamics, Northrup, Grumman, Boeing, General Motors, Colt, Remington, etc, etc, etc.

I'm not knocking the military industrial complex, but the military didn't sit in their lab and create stealth technology or the latest ICBM technology, the private sector did.

  • I have the exact same tie as that guy

  • From the gov't and here to "help"? Thats total oxymoron. GET OUT OF OTHER COUNTRIES! Why don't people in this country understand why it's so bad to be involving ourselves in other countries? Sheep to slaughter.

  • I'd almost forgoten about this

  • first?
