Actually, this was first seen in October 1957, as they appeared before a curtain that listed the names of several of the theaters they performed at during their vaudeville days {"Palace Theatre, New York", "Shea's, Buffalo", "Majestic, Chicago", "Hennepin Theatre, Minneapolis", etc.}, in their final TV season.
This was one of the "double routines" George & Gracie were famous for performing in vaudeville [with new material written especially for TV, when she often talked about one of her relatives], which they performed after the end of an episode, from 1955 through '58. This one appeared around October 1956 ("right close to election time"- that is, the '56 Presidential election; George doesn't mention WHICH election, as the filmed episodes were supposed to be "timeless" in future syndication).
