Have you realized that when Jason quit Metallica, Kirk started to suck? I guess they were pretty good friends. Might be because of St.Anger too, he didn't need to play any solos...
Holy shit! They had some energy back then. Lars had a good day :) Such a shame that Jason left. He was bad-ass on stage, Rob has some skills but he's just kinda boring. But no wonder that Newsted called it a day after they treated him like shit all this years.
@ThizzThroy Treated him like shit? They took a kid off the street and made him a member of Metallica and a multi millionaire. He was hazed only because they were still mourning the death of Cliff. He was a fan who got to live the life we would all die for.
@jkjl234: ...yes, I am a metalhead...I remember I was waiting for the new Metallica clip in '96 to be shown on MTV....when I saw these faggots with their hair cut off and wearing make-up I knew the end had come for them. The word "metal" in Metallica has lost its meaning completely. That's my honest opinion...
@MrBuell1976 i understand how you feel. load and reload were definitely not "metal" albums. they were heavy rock albums. i like them and i think there is still a lot of really good music on them. the problem i have with what you say is that they are faggots for getting hair cuts. who cares what there hair looks like? if you were to say i think they are faggots because the music sucked, i would respect what you are saying a lot more.
...Lars is wearing sunglasses because he doesn't want anyone to see he's crying like a baby 'cause he knows Jason's leaving....Newsted should have left before they even started to record that f**in' pussy-album "Load"....He was treated like shit during his stay in Metallica from the beginning and never got the credit he deserved....it was always Metallica....and Jason....
@MrBuell1976 please. you are obviously a metal head who has no appreciation for any other kind of music. load and reload were great albums. ST ANGER SUCKED. death magnetic was ok. at least load and reload were inspired. death magnetic just sounded like metallica trying to recreate the 1980s. that's not what metallica does
@jkjl234 cant understand where the hatred for st anger comes from ...i thought i was brilliant ..it was way more emotional than all their other albums combined (well parts of it where)....
@sidewaysfcs0718 i like a bunch of riffs of st anger. there is definitely some heavy shit there. but it just sounds like shit. maybe if they would have produced it more, made it sound more like what heavy metal can sound like in the 21st century (massive guitars, chunch out of your ass). but then again, that is the sound they were going for. also, lars began to show his quickly fading skills on this album. METALLICA RULES!
@MrBuell1976 Bullshit. Load and Reload kick ass. They are fantastic rock albums not Metal albums though. But yes Jason did get dicked over and you got that: "it was always Metallica... and Jason" from James lol!
@MrBuell1976 he wuz treated like shit cuz he couldnt play bass for shit the only thing he had wuz energy on stage robb may not have that same energy but his skill at playing bass leaves jason behind
@SchoolUnvalaible Because he was always treated badly by them, and he wanted to pursue his solo career, and release his record, which James didn't let him do, so he left
@keiz87 Imo, James' voice is so much better his golden years 1985-2003. Now he doesn't sound bad today at all but I just think in that frame he has stronger vocals.
During "some kind of monster" (the movie) i allways hoped Jason would have come back to Metallica... well they are happy with rob that means im happy too cause without Metallica, my life would be boring! METALLICA FOREVER!
im always amazed how they can play the same songs a zillion times and still have the energy of the first time you hear it. it never feels tired and they never seem bored. not just metallica, many bands but i think they're the best at it
aww Jason said he knew that would be his last performance .. aww poor Jas the lyrics to fade to black ... fit which is ironic .. he must of felt upset listening & playing to this song .. i love Jason he's the best :-) xxx .... i miss him beening in Metallica.
@beglebite if this is what you wanna hear, all righ, yes, I fucking hate Robert Trujillo and everyday in my life I dream of jason being back in metallica.
@Eddgital are you serious? this was the worst fade to black ever. lars can't keep a solid tempo to save his life, kirk's rhythm guitar parts over the verses are terribly out of tune, and james's voice was struggling. metallica had so many awesome shows, so many awesome performances. but this aint one of them. after a performance like this, i would have left the band too, jason was probably sick of trying to play over lars' constantly changing tempos.

@whyhatestrangers because i guarantee you, this was NOT the best version of fade to black for jason. the shit he put up with led to his leaving the group. just because this was his last show with them doesn't mean it's the best version or excuse a sub par performance. maybe if they'd all kept up on their trades like jason had been doing, jason might have had second thoughts about his decision to leave.
@whyhatestrangers it wasnt his decision 2 leave. he wanted 2 do a side project around the time some kind of monster came out. james and lars wouldnt let him so they basically kicked him out
@rroybraves yes that's basically correct. but i think jason would have left anyway after sitting through more performances as terrible as this one. the fact that james and lars actually admit to not letting jason do his own side projects is just horrible and made me lose a lot of respect for them. but i think they eventually grew up and realized how wrong that was of them (i hope). jason basically kept the band together, and they that's how they repaid him, such a shame.

This performance is strange. It's a "singular" performance in 2000, playing a song from 1984? Why not "I Disappear"?
Lars Ulrich playing with glasses... "Different":
Jason playing with that thing in the head!
Fade to black "very SLOW"...
Jason Newsted: "I knew that it would be my last performance with METALLICA".
Yes. It's very sad to watch this...
But, at least, he has a good relation with them now and we could see them playing again together.
vladvampire 1 month ago
@vladvampire They've often played this song (and sad but true) very slow, I noticed it first on Live Shit 1993
But the way you put it, it all kind of adds to the sadness. The coincidences sometimes amaze us at how things turn out
