  • awesome shirt!

  • Got the same in natural, LOVE IT, the a customs complete it

  • @jrcr1 true that brother!

  • I love that all over the world there're guys and gals who have an amazing talent like that, I'm a drummer myself but I really love the concept of how many hours go into developing the skill but you don't realise ;o... thanks for a great vid, sealed the argument in my head of which kit to buy ;)

  • uuugh my ears just came

  • @jakcody sir you might want to get that checked out. goooooooey

  • @justinjonesypoo what size is your kick drum?

  • @jakcody 18 by 12

  • Hey I'm looking at the catalina club models cause there quite cheap and sound brilliant. But would you (or anyone else here) recommend that I buy it even if I won't be playing hardly anything like jazz on it. More so progressive rock etc, should I get it?

  • @ExEurasian go for it man, the drummer in my band plays reggae and punk on it, and loves it to death. go for it!!!

  • @eheh5150 b8's

  • haha its really weird hearing such high quality sound while watching a terrible quality video

  • @Sherb993 thanks?

  • @justinjonesypoo sorry, i guess that did come out wrong but it was meant to be a compliment haha

  • @Sherb993 Haha too true!

  • Jazz kit?

  • My honest opinion:

    Too saturated and unnatural.

    Keep trying.

    Good luck.

  • @jciJazz not a jazz engineer, i just engineer contemporary artistry as opposed to raw jazz artists.

the kit is used for recording.

  • hey man great sound. I'm getting a presonus firestudio. i was wondering how hard it was to multimix. Is it pretty easy to get each drum piece on each channel? I heard its hard to use, but it might have just been folks that don't know anything about recording

  • hey man-

the presonus firestudio is very easy to use. i run on an imac so that might be half the reason its easier to use, because its plug and play. on windows i had a little trouble. you have to sure asio is enabled. also, each channel is mono. so inputs 1 and 2 would equal stereo channel one, its kind of confusing on windows at first but then it gets easier. the sound quality is great if you know how to process it right.

good luck and happy recording man!

  • @956miggz

every drum piece should have a mic, and you should use 2 overheads. assign every mic to a track and there you go. you can get rid of the unwanted signal by gating the recorded audio.

  • Great but sounds wayyy overprocessed.

  • unless you listen to something from the 1950's and below, its processed. odd thing is there wasnt much eq or anything on this. just good placement and acoustics.

  • @justinjonesypoo late, but maybe cause the height of the ceilings and the room itself.

  • wat skins hav u got on that?

  • evans genera g1 coated. emad on the kick.

  • You got some poor posture browski

  • good posture or not, kids got chops.

  • it was just a drum test though. i was just fooling around on the spot. and i admit i dont have that much chops. i just have to practice more. and it will come with more experience and practice.

  • and besides its not about chops. its about the music. its not about showing off how fast u can go and shit. its about just playing and having fun. but thank you for liking our band though. that means a lot to us.

  • @zappafan93 Nah dude I completely agree. As much as I dislike the Beatles, look at Ringo. NO CHOPS what so ever but as a group they made GREAT music. I don't like it but I recognize what they've done as a band. Also, Stewart Copeland said a lot of modern drummers have disregarded playing for the song, not to show off. Simple is better in a lot of situations browski, I ain't disagreeing with you. Good luck with your band. I hope you go somewhere.

  • thank you man. im glad you like it.

  • @justinjonesypoo I'll tell you what though. I love your band, and the sound. Fucking awsome dude.

  • thanks alot dude, our cd is available on itunes and our new one will be out by february. spread the word about the mahlors!

  • yeah thats the one thing i got to work out.

  • does he have down syndrome

  • @bryan38683 ......no

  • no. my mommy just says im special.

    HURR DURR!!!!!

  • I NEVER HAZD HUKD ON FONIX

  • hey dude im new to recording and stuff. so im guessing that all you need to record like in this video is a mic setup, and a mixer like the presonus firestudio project thing?

  • its a drum mic test bro. not a vid to show off skill.

  • There's way too much bass on the toms/kick. The snare also has a bit too much verb. Your other drum video sounded a lot better. It sounds like you went to crazy on the EQ this time around just for EQ sake, and that kick has a really bad sample.

  • haha its funny cause theres only eq on the master track bumping up some of the highs with some reverb.

its unmixed to provide a natural tone, buddy.

  • My bad, maybe the mics were too close to the drums this time. Try cutting the toms around 200-500k to open them up a bit and sound less boxy.

  • @llanafreak44 there was actually more eq on the last video.....but whatever.

not sure if you read the info, there really was no mix. which is why the toms are high on gain. this was just to show the raw tone of these drums. and this is actually how the kick sounds when you put an emad on it.

and yeah the verb comment is true but its too late now :(

  • Sounds Great! Except kill some of the reverb on that snare

  • Hey man thank you so much for making this video! I am buying this kit for the sole purpose of recording and I was curious what it would sound like recorded. Sounds freaking great I am so excited now! thanks again!

  • its sounds like an electric kit

  • What kind of heads are on your toms?

  • genera g1 coated heads, emad on the kick.

  • hey dude my friend has a presonus firestudio. what mics to you use for drumming and how many

  • 7. audix fusion drum mic pack plus an audix i5 on the hihat.

  • Great sound, great recording, great drummer.

I'm just about to buy one of these kits, but I thought the kick was an 18". This one sure looks bigger...is it not?

  • its an 18". could look bigger cause the video is in widescreen. you wont regret your purchase man.

  • Dude, you got a good sound in that room with what ever your using.

  • thanks dude. its actually the room above my garage. i put the drums in a corner and all the sound stays there so it picks up in the mics greatly.

  • haha my brother ian said to check you out ur in a class of his i think. goodshit dude

  • haha this isnt tj personally, he plays drums in my band, and hes my best friend. if your lookin for him his youtube account is zappafan93.

  • dude this is Catalina Club JAZZ KIT!!!not a Tama Rockstar :X

  • be it a jazz kit or a rock kit, its about tone. the thing has the best tone i ever played.

  • Awesome rolls dude. I just bought this kit a week or so ago. You are proof that all you really need is just a few drums--not 30 like Neil Peart. Sorry, I'm a diehard Bonham/Rich fan

  • word dude. im an art blakey fan so 4 is all you need, just need one crash, a ride, and a hi hat and your set.

  • same here. bonham is my favorite drummer.

  • Is that a custom hat?

  • nope, sabian b8's. i reversed them and put the bottom hat on top.

  • I did the exact same thing! It sounds pretty great, huh?

  • ah-ma-zing

  • hmm, wrong kit for the genre, great sound, what crash?

  • sabian aa's

  • 1:30 to 1:40. YESSSSSSS

  • hahah of course.

  • Such an awesome sound. I am thinking about getting one soon for a hardcore/punk-ish band. Will be perfect.

  • i own this set. the bass is soo deep and punchy i love it . just bought it 2 days ago

  • I want one of these so bad. Do you think it would be good for a kind of ska/rock band? the snare sounds so good. currently playing a Mapex M-Birch and it's just so dull. this kit sound so punchy and the snare sounds so sharp. nice drumming as well, was loving the rolls at the start

  • yes my friend it would be perfect for a ska/rock band. im in a reggae-punk band and he always uses this set live. its a beautiful kit.

  • nice one man, yeah I really am gonna get one of these, now just to wait for some money to come through....I love how small it is but yet how much of a big sound it has. discovered a friend of mine had one this weekend and I was admiring it for hours. Cheers for the help guys!

  • no problem man! happy shopping. check out my jazz videos, i use it in them and youll love the sound. subscribe!

  • thanks man. im the drummer in the vid. but yeah this kit is great for ska and rock shit. this is a great kit.

  • It most definitely is. I used it in a punk/metal band, I've used it for reggea/world, bluegrass, and even a live dnb act. Never had any complaints about sound from my band mates. of course, I didn't use it in it's default state for each group. And I have replaced the snare with a dw. 13"7"

  • this set is good, the snare is ok, howev id rather have a mapex m birch, i have it on my channel, and yes its great for ska/rock, check my vids for the sound

  • nice drumming

  • is the kit a natural finish? You state mahogany but i cant find this finish in any online drum shop.( i live in england) How do you rate this kit against the Gretsch catalina maple.?

  • yes its a natural finish. i found the kit in my local guitar center. im pretty sure they have the natural finish on their site. but even if you cant find the kit in its natural finish, its just as good in any other color.

the difference between this and the catalina maple is the size and the sound. mahogany has more of a fat wide tone to their drums, mahogany can be manipulated to either sound punchy or fat, so its good either way. i wanted a kit that will play all styles and this did so.

  • The snare drum your using here is it the one that came with this kit. its awsome for a kit of this price. im gonna get rid of my pearl exports and get this kit.

  • yes, it all the original shells.

  • nice Ride

  • This drum kit is incredible especially for its size and value. I'm looking forward to purchasing one of my own! HOOAH!

  • you wont be disappointed man, its incredible.

  • are you using the stock heads?

  • aside from the bass (which is an evan emad 1), yes they are all stock heads.

  • Hello. I currently own a catalina birch set but am looking to upgrade to another acoustic set in gretsch's line up. The catalina club jazz caught my eye. Unfortunately I do not know much about drum sets in terms of what type of woods are good for a particular style. I usually just play whatever is given to me. Would you happen to know, technically speaking, if trading in my birch for the club jazz would be an upgrade or a downgrade?

  • honestly, sometimes wood doesnt matter. if you want to be technical, you can call mahogany a down grade. but if you play jazz, 90 percent of jazz kits are mahogany and are small and project better tones than any maple kit. i would strongly suggest the kit, the thing sounds fuckin mean and bad dude and its not just for jazz. tj, the drummer in the video, is a hardcore drummer and says its probably one of the best kits hes ever played. so keep that in mind and let me know what ya do man.

  • I'm a big newbie when it comes to this kind of stuff. But say you were doing a live gig and you mic'd your drums. Would you just run them through a PA system?

  • precisely. usually it will go into either pre amps, yet sometimes itll go right in. and instead of a pa it will usually be a mixer.

  • So the mixer plugs into the PA right?

  • no. the mixer usually is technically the PA.

  • i heard your friend TJ throw in some punk beats in there.. sounds good. That's the kind of music i play, and i'm considering getting this set soon. My only concern is the volume. I know the bass drum is a CANNON of a bass drum, but I wonder if it would be loud enough to cut through guitars in a live punk/hardcore setting... ?? Any ideas? we're not talking necesarrily large venues or anything, but definitely not like tiny bars .

  • yo man. this kit is a great kit for mostly every setting. but the only downside is if your playing bars that are unmiked, this kit may not be the best choice. i use it strictly when it is miked in the studio and my band plays reggae/punk and it cuts through decent. tj himself - who is mostly a hardcore drummer - says its a really good choice, and the tone is amazing. but if it was unmiked he doesnt really know. i would go for it. you wont be dissapointed, the tone is amazing.

  • Okay. thanks a lot. I mentioned your friend TJ because i figured he played similar things to what I play as i saw in the video. And if worst comes to worst and micing isn't available, the guitar amps volumes are adjustable. I'm sure if i was in a place that was big enough for micing drums, they'd have it. I'm not sure if that makes sense to you but you probably get the jist of what i'm saying. Thanks so much though for you input. Most likely buying it tomorrow

  • sweet man - let me know how it is.

  • really nice drum sound. What mic's are you using?

  • audix fusion drum mic pack.

  • did u change the heads on the kit cause they dont sound like the g1s

  • no they are the stock heads. besides the bass drum, which is an emad head.

  • Think this thing could pull off some unmic'd rock gigs? I need something in smaller sizes.

    PS- Love your kick sound.

  • thanks for the kind words. truthfully, it has some kick ass tone as rock drums. the only problem for you might be the volume. its definetely worth the purchase, and the kick drum sounds like a freakin cannon. i think you should test it out first to see if its your cup of tea.

  • what effects did u put on the drums? compression? noise gates?...

  • slight eq on every microphone to be brought through the speakers more but not to create a fake tone - all of the tone is natural.

no noise gates, what you hear is straight from the mic.

theres some slight reverb on some of the mics.

theres an overall compression in the final mixdown just to avoid clipping.

  • Thanks for posting this video. Is that with an 18 inch bass drum?

  • yes sir. 18x14.
