I am really interested in the part you said about the generation that came out of two parent homes. Yes, the complaints are essentially the same. The main difference is, for whatever reason, BMs dont have any governmental body or corporate entity in place to protect their interest. If a BW fucks over a BM, there is no one at the courthouse or precinct who can vouch for his character--not even BLKs. Conversely, a nonBLK man may know someone at the courthouse or precinct who may say, "Hey, Thad isnt so bad, cut him some slack," to the judge, clerk, or officer, and he may find some reprieve.

I'm an aspiring novelist myself and I completely understand the need to carefully choose the races of my characters in order to not have race be the main focus. I'm writing one story about a teacher/student relationship where the girl is black and the man is white. But the girl comes from a high powered family and the man, while well off due to hard work, came from a lower middle class family and then married rich. With those aspects in place, I feel it helps to take away the race aspect.
cont: When describing my female character, I tend to stay away from describing her race or skin color but focus on the characteristics of her youth and beauty. For example, I'll focus a lot on her big curly hair and pouty lips - those features can be attributed to any number of races. And my male character, I steer clear of any race identifying characteristics at all. While I know he's white, the way the story is progressing, he is pretty much racially ambiguous.

Yes, the complaints are essentially the same. The main difference is, for whatever reason, BMs dont have any governmental body or corporate entity in place to protect their interest. If a BW fucks over a BM, there is no one at the courthouse or precinct who can vouch for his character--not even BLKs. Conversely, a nonBLK man may know someone at the courthouse or precinct who may say, "Hey, Thad isnt so bad, cut him some slack," to the judge, clerk, or officer, and he may find some reprieve.

The story of your novel will be okay if the black woman left the "down-on-his-luck" BM for a more successful and motivated BM.
The novel will only read as a dis towards all BM if the BW left the BM for a successful WM or chooses to be remain single with a "strong and independent," "I don't need no man," "all niggas ain't ish" mentality.

He has also had shows where he had black men and black women call up and argue about the same issues discussed here. But he doesn't single out any particular race of women: he talks about American women, regardless of race.

He had to work at radio stations in small towns, where there likely weren't a whole lot of black people, throughout much of his career. By the time he got to LA, he was just about done with marriage. Not to mention in his line of work, it's hard for a BLACK man to meet a black woman, let alone a man of another race.

Where are you getting this info from? According to Wiki he moved to Phoenix AZ in '85 & after the to L.A. Those are NOT small towns. He married a Seattle woman in 89. Again, NOT a small town. He met his 4th wife in L.A. So what you're saying doesn't wash.

@UHeardMe1stTime Tom's been at it before Phoenix. Phoenix, Seattle, and LA are not small towns, but they are towns with proportionally SMALL black populations, as are many western US cities. The black populations in Seattle and Phoenix are less than 10%. And LA is largely Mexican/Latino.

There are dating sites & even professional match makers who can help him find black women if he wants them. Asians may be a small percentage of the NATIONAL population, but in many WESTERN cities, they OUTNUMBER blacks. It also matters where you work and your social circles, and TL has said there are virtually NO women in talk radio. Patti Stanger would require him to "sell out" to set him up.

But the term "fetish" is used in reference only to men's interests to imply sexual perversion.

I'm an aspiring novelist myself and I completely understand the need to carefully choose the races of my characters in order to not have race be the main focus. I'm writing one story about a teacher/student relationship where the girl is black and the man is white. But the girl comes from a high powered family and the man, while well off due to hard work, came from a lower middle class family and then married rich. With those aspects in place, I feel it helps to take away the race aspect.

cont: When describing my female character, I tend to stay away from describing her race or skin color but focus on the characteristics of her youth and beauty. For example, I'll focus a lot on her big curly hair and pouty lips - those features can be attributed to any number of races. And my male character, I steer clear of any race identifying characteristics at all. While I know he's white, the way the story is progressing, he is pretty much racially ambiguous.
