@MrJohnfisher81 Thank you for your response. / The Supreme Way is not difficult. If only you do not pick and choose. Neither love nor hate. And you will clearly understand. / It is not about suppression, but about really seeing. Proceeding freely. Unattached to circumstances. Enjoy your practice. May your life go well.
@MrJohnfisher81 Thank you for your response. Everything is in a constant state of change. The present moment is never the same. Only the mind, through it's discrimating action, can link the past to the future through the present moment. Practice is about letting go. Not clinging. May your life go well.
How Zen. An abbott who was a kamikazi pilot. No body No mind. No loss. No Gain. The same reason the swordsman, Miyamoto Musashi was attracted to Zen. I feel concern for the nun. Everday is the same? She needs to clarify her practice or else get out of there fast. Possibly her husband is not dead to her yet. Why did they introduce her in that way? Did she bring this up? Thank you for sharing.
you miss sense gratification... we see.. but the tendancy to fall down to this material world is there huh?
Enjoy and suffer is the purpose of this life, or finding out who is there to operate and get out of this material world ? Both are true answers to me.
What do you choose? sense gratification or austerity.. I'm stuck in between these choice, as I am probably a demon, contaminated to this material plane, and can't sacrifice my sense gratification's obsession...
I can pretty much gurantee you you wouldn't see these articles in the British or American media, as their one aim is to limit you to what's really going on in the world.
I have complete respect for these people as they have mental training we haven't worked on.
These kinds of places like just perfect. Trust me ... on the inside they're all too human with all the same squabbles, petty jealousies, in-fighting that's everywhere else. Maybe even more ....
everyone is human, to think that meditation is always peacefull and the people are always nice is naive, you need pain to learn and grow in whatever form it comes in, theres no need to try to run away from it.

A women with a shaved hair! YUK. Are we created to have routine days? Man has energy and mind to be productive to others and his land. wasteful Buddhism
I find it really funny (no offense to you intended) that people find such silly things to hate others for :D what are they doing every day that is any more or less of a waste than going to work and raising a home and family? they are working toward enlightenment and this is how they see fit to find it, you are working toward whatever it is you are working towards and your way is the one you chose, you're no different then them.
The emergence of Zen as a distinct school of Buddhism was first documented in China in the 7th century CE. It is thought to have developed as an amalgam of various currents in Mahāyāna Buddhist thought—among them the Yogācāra and Madhyamaka philosophies and the Prajñāpāramitā literature—and of local traditions in China, particularly Taoism and Huáyán Buddhism. From China, Zen subsequently spread southwards to Vietnam and eastwards to Korea and Japan.
The establishment of Zen is traditionally credited to the South Indian Pallava prince-turned-monk Bodhidharma, who is recorded as having come to China to teach a "special transmission outside scriptures" which "did not stand upon words".
Zen emphasizes experiential wisdom—particularly as realized in the form of meditation known as zazen—in the attainment of awakening, often simply called the path of enlightenment. As such, it de-emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and the study of religious texts in favor of direct, experiential realization through meditation and dharma practice.
Hosshinji is probably the way a monastery should be run -- sort of laid back but with a great deal of emphasis on spiritual meaningfulness. Hats off to the old Roshi.
i was there in 1987 for 3 months, i was a very lazy monk, i never turned up for the morning jog, i use to like the beer vending machine down the road, and Roshi must be 85 by now, i miss it
Some of us Lay Buddhist, dealing with the money sht system, are very envious, Keep up the good work and peace to you in your meditation, and too all Buddhist monks. Om Mani Padme huuuung.

A kamikaze pilot who never kamikazied? Now he's a monk doing nothing all day but saying "Ah, but who was phone?". Sounds like a sly dodger to me.

you are probably right since we are all human...but we are something else either which is the purpose of continuing the practice.
just to do your best and to try not to pay too much atention to the others faults is the best way.

Zen is a school of Mahāyāna Buddhism, referred to in Chinese as Chán. Chán is itself derived from the Sanskrit Dhyāna, which means "meditation".
