  • who the hell flies MODE1? Lefties? Japans/UKs because of right wheel? I mean mode1 is retarded...

  • The most amazing part of this video is the fact that you convinced an actual girl to marry you. WTG!

  • Dave, I have the same kyosho concept 30 but i need a main shaft..Do you know where i can get one??

  • Very interesting video. Nice to watch. Thank you.......

  • so good!

  • great video, i`m flight in a EC 130 in Acapulco, Gro.

  • can u still fly it?

  • ... My fire bird free dom crashed to day and one of the tail wings are broke any tipes on how to fit a new one!

  • I LIKE THE FIRST ONE

  • Amazing video, Thanks for sharing

  • Great video! Thank you for taking the time out to publish this as well as your other videos.

  • What a great video, I enjoyed watching this. Thanks

  • oh i want to see how it handles in the air

  • Man, now we can say that you r Heli GURU :).. what and great past.. Thank for sharing..

  • Just like a honeybee mk3 only bigger and wood.

  • Cool i was always wandered if you can fly a non-rc heli and now i see that you are a great (1/1 scale)pilot too! What Military Helicopters have you flown? Hughes's? Sikorkys's?

  • Thanks kindly. CH-46's, CH-53's and Huey's mostly.

  • Wow these are tough and unforgiving helis,i admire you!Compared to the military helis the autogyro is a flying-scooter too bad your wive got scared and never let you buy one of them,i hope one day she will change her mind

  • awesome. loved the whole thin! u have been through alot in helicopter history from inventing to making prototypes!

wow i am really impressed and congratulations to an amazing past!

  • Gosh, thank you very kindly for your comments. I appreciate that.

  • no prob. You are a great help to everyone on Utube so u deserve awesome comments!..........

  • wow so that was the first electric heli imported to the us?!? thats pretty sweet! im from holland tho :P

  • Yes. Thanks kindly and welcome Holland.

  • woahh! you looked so young in that picture with ur award!

  • Ahh. those were the days too. LOL.

  • Wow your amazing btw i think your born to fly......

  • Thanks kindly.

  • Did I Enjoy?

    I LOVE IT!!

When I Be In cali Maybe You can Take Ride With Me To.????

  • Thanks Kindly. I'm no longer in Cal though!. :-(

  • Thanks very kindy.

  • I too presently have a Kyosho Concept 30 with Hughes 300 canopy. It's been hanging in my closet for 17 years, fully assembled, never flown and never started; everything still in brand new condition. If the opportunity arises, I will get rid of it.

  • One of my faves! I could make a nice video of it flying and make you the Star!

  • I'll pass up on the video-star thing since I'm not a good actor. In any case, I never got around to starting my Concept 30SX because I purchase a Kalt Whisper two years later. The Whisper is the first and only RC Heli I've ever flown and crashed; countless times. Have you ever test flown the Whisper, if so what's your opinion of it?

  • Thanks. Yep the Kalt Whisper was one of the earliest electric helicopters too. I had flown it in a hobby store for the owner, when he asked me to test fly it and it was great, but alas, Just Nicads, etc. Today, with a Lipo, it would do better, but it was expensive compared to what we have today.

  • wow you have been doing for along time!

  • Yes, and it feels like it sometimes. LOL

  • men I am so so sorry what I mean is that you should fly that old rc helicopter at the begining of the video

  • It is down for parts and there are none available anymore. Sorry.

  • Please I beg you make a video fliyng it

  • Flying what?

  • Could you make some more videos of you flying your gas rc helis.

  • I dont have anything new right now and don't intend to go back to them, as I did gas for years.

I may post some gas heli flying of my old gas stuff, though.

  • woww you made the helis :O

i just cant belíeve that i had the oportunitty to talk to you by messages, you saw and made too much things ;) and now you have 60 years and stíll doing alot of cool stuff hehe

    amazing

ps: you dont look like you have 60

    looks young and healthy

  • Keep playing and you will stay young too. Thanks for the kind words.

  • I'd love to see you fly that Rotocopter..

  • LOL. Me too.

  • id love to see that heli fly

  • 5:25 bad news, Love your videos dave

  • That is for sure. Thanks kindly.

  • Another great video and seeing a real heli land was a treat.

I fly in MicroSoft fs2002 and notice that heli's in that program resist turning using the tail rotor but I don't see that with RC heli's why is that ?

And what is the proper way to land a real heli ? With planes you are suppose to line up the runway by looking at the far end of the runway and use flaps and pitch to control descent. I can land heli's but I feel like I can do better with the proper technique.

  • Oops! Sorry, I meant.. do very much enjoy your video's with "flying tips and tricks(the intricate details)on Helicopters."

    ~JPilot2

  • Dave Herbert thank you, great Job! I have really enjoy the ride and the Helicopter History! I do very much enjoy your videos with fighting tips and tricks(the intricate details)on Helicopters. Yes, we have come a long way since then in Models and the real ones too.

    ~JPilot2

  • Thanks very kindly for you comments. I really appreciate that.

  • in 1970 mostly america made alot of models..

now 2000 to up is mostly asia made it alot of models for america..

    WHY do that

  • Because companies got tax breaks to go overseas where labor was cheaper. The USA guys wont work for cheap, and that is why it happened. You know that anyway.

  • wat was your job before u retired? nice vids

  • I was US Marine Avionics specialist for 33 years and also ran a Chemical Company in Newport beach for 20 years. See my profile for more.

  • what's that lil machine in the beginning of the vid?

  • It is an Air Farce X-8 (Monogram Models Inc)

  • Very nice video, it was very entertaining specially when I saw the hyperfly, my father used to have one and I remember it was very challenging to fly but nevertheless it was very exciting. You did a lot for the rc heli community.

  • Thanks very much. I appreciate that.

  • great vid, i dont now, what the rc heli world be without u

  • Thanks.. Someone else would have done it, believe me, but I sincerely appreciate your kind comment.

  • great video! its awesome that youve been in this whole hobby for all of those years.

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate that, and glad Im still going. Wait til you see what is coming next.

  • I was wondering if there were light kits for the honeybees?

  • I used to fly my helis in the dark, and even have a video up on it. But we made our own canopy lights, and we used red and green chemlights on the skids and tail.

  • hey can you make a video flying the first rc heli ever made in the usa, I think you said it was called a ishu masha, I dont know, any way, can you make a vid of that I REALLY want to see it fly!!!

  • Well I already have done that in my videos.See: "The 1st Production Electric RC Helicopter" It was the first imported into the USA, but not made in USA. It is on Page 5 of my videos. The first Gas model heli made in USA, I also show flying in my night gas heli flying videos. It was an American RC mantis.

  • yeah! i wanna see it fly sooo bad. please make a vid of it. thx~ =)

  • See what fly?

  • the first rc heli

  • The first electric RC heli to come into the USA is what I had, not the First Heli. The one that was first and made in USA and was gas back then called a Mantis by American RC.

  • Wow youve been in the hobby for alooooooooong time. Ive only been in it for about 4 and a half years now (not accomplished). I love that ec 135 colbri

  • Too long, it seems sometimes. LOL Thanks for the comments. Stay with it and enjoy.

  • wow!!!! great video sir! thanks for sharing...

  • Thanks very much. Stay tuned for my next video and good luck.

  • Your a Legendary RCpilot!

  • Thanks very much. I do appreciate your comments.

  • is a eurocopter the helis with the tail roters lik ducted fans? and also, nice vid man

  • Yes, that is one of them, along with the Aerospatial.

  • Then Blue Thunder is one

  • An older version of one, yes. See my "Making of Blue Thunder" video to see it.

  • Well i actually have some of the series.

  • You mean the Airwolf series right?

  • no i have the real blue thunder sieries

  • dave you are a star

  • Haha. Thanks. Your too kind.

  • i appreciate ur time dave, i luv ur videos, they help me alot, thanks

  • Thank you kindly for your comments. They help me too.

  • coo

  • what was that thing at the beginning of vid?

  • Ha ha. It is a plastic model plane kit, highly modified.

  • What are Dave Herbert's 9 helicopter tips?

  • I will PM them to you now.

  • Annoying music but Oh...My...God...Amazing view

  • Thanks. Blame Pinnacle studio for the music.

  • sorry if that was rude it was just getting boring after awhile

  • to tell the truth i like cars and planes better. but ill give helicopters a chance and purchase the havoc heli or gyro heli

  • Once you try something like this, if you can fly it, you will love it too. Most of us heli pilots all started with cars, etc too.

  • Well dave, this video is going to get into the annals of rc-heli-history! With this video you created a work which I think already reached cult status among the rc-heli-community worldwide! I'm a "bloody beginner" and I sucked in almost all of your videos during the time around easter, feel kinda exhausted now... Kind regards from saxony, germany - keep the rotors spinnin'!

  • Thanks very kindly. I appreciate it. Just dont give up.

  • you are know my rc aircraft idol. im not worthy, im not worthy!

  • Ha ha. Thanks. Yes you are worthy!

  • Loved the heli flight man, and love helicopters in general. Also noticed the MD600 just as you guys were landing!!

  • Thanks very much.

  • wish I was there... Pa weather not the best for flying this time of year

  • Fascinating, as a newcomer to this hobby it's gratifying to see that even experts crash.

Thank you for giving such enjoyment. Here in the UK we don't seem to have as many enthusiasts as you. Most of my flying is with a Piccoz and its' newer stable-mate, the Chinook. Both are great.

    Brian

  • Thanks for the kind comments. I have not seen the mini Chinook yet. Is that made by Ikarus too?

  • Dave you have Got a great life.

    Wow!

  • Thanks. Yes, I have had some good days. But I have had some crashes too. It is all part of the learning curve. You can't recognize a good day, unless you have a bad day. Just never give up and you can do anything you want too.

  • thanks for this good video

my father was pilot/instructor on hugues 500, he flew hundred and hundred hours over Québec, watching for potential fires on summer

he also loved to work with people in charge of making the James Bay giant stairs

he did lots of funny things with these people, like dropping a dynamite stick in a lake and fly in the water projection

I'd love to fly again, I only did one time, around Paris, from Issy-lesMoulineaux to Le Bourget air show, but that was amazing!

  • Thanks for your comments. Well, models can be the next step, if you want to fly again.

  • yes, but I have no time and live in downtown...

but with these micro R/C helicopter like picco-z and "fairy (something)" I could play in my appartment :)

the problem is that I really don't know where to buy these (Hull, QC, near Ottawa)

  • thanxs again Dave for your amasing videos, i enjoye theme wery mush

  • Thats kind of you to say. Thank you.

  • hi Nightflyyer, very impressive history, always a pleasure looking to and learning from your expert tips ! greatings from Belgium ! Keep flying and posting.

  • Welcome Belgium....where the smallest RC helicopters were invented. Thanks for the kind comments.

  • yeah

and bo-105 sometimes are used for medical operations

  • hello NightFlyyer!!!!

    very good video

my fauborite real helicopter is the bo-105

  • Thanks. That is a cool German heli and aerobatic too.

  • Thanks. Those are very kind comments.

  • for some strange reason, kraft signature radioes remind of mac and cheese...

  • wow man you are a legend, this video is the best!!!

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • wow! history lesson and old school! nice! great post.

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • Cool stuff there.

  • Thanks kindly.

  • the little cute plane at first was the cutest, kidding!

  • Thanks.. It is kinda weird all right.

  • hi dave i just wanted to know if u have a hobby lol

  • Yes.......Life!

  • dam lie you weren't flying the euro, your feet must be invisible cause i didn't see them on the rudder controls at any point

  • Not true. When Greg was flying and I was videoing, I did not have my feet on the rudder pedals as should be. But when I was flying, he was taking stills pix.... Your point? Gee!

  • great vid.. i'm wanting to get started in flying copters wat would be the best to learn on..

  • Real ones or models? If models, I would begin with A Coco Lama or a Blade CX2. If a real one, I would start on a Rotorway A600.

  • how much would one of those cost? I have only used cheap electric ones (havoc heli and reflex, etc.) Would it be hard to learn?

  • Coco lamas are about $89. The blades are about $150.

  • Thanks, I'll check it out. $150 for blades sounds like alot though.

  • The Blade CX2, I meant. But it also has a Spektrum Radio, making it a nice deal.

  • no buy a walkera 04 these are great !

  • Another great video! Thanks for the comments about my 2007 Year-End Video as well. Keep the good stuff coming. We worry when you go more than a week without a new video!

  • Thanks kindly. I will have a new Vid up shortly of the very first ever Electric heli and including my ETRM heli's first flights from 1981.

  • that is awesome!

  • Thanks very kindly.

  • wow thats such a good video lol i wanna fly in a real helicopter.. cant fit in my honey bee :( haha and having a really heavy Rc chopper out of control i do not know if i would of kicked it haha throwing the remote at it first then kicking it lolol

  • Thanks. I never thought Id hit it with remote, because if I missed, it would have been in the crowd anyway....Wham! Ouch!

  • sorry i meant braVe, not braCe, i tend to make alot of typos.:P

  • Well thanks, no problem.. I make lots of typos too.... My foot is sometimes troublesome in bare feet, but if I wear a shoe, it is okay. Thanks for asking.

  • thats good, nobody knows what could of happen if that heli flew into the crowd. i like how you skate and fly at the same time lol

  • very brace of you saving that crowd, is your leg ok now?

  • wow you have had a gd life and fun 2 welldone

  • Thanks very kindly... I've had my ups and downs, and crashes too, though.

  • k pasaa

  • Nada, Mucho Bueno!

  • hello sir,

i am a great fan of your entire collection and i regularly check out your vids.. sir there is a request.. will you show me a demonstration video on how to make a simple fixed pitch rc heli(homemade)? i will make one for my science exhibition..waiting for your reply

  • It would take many hours and plenty of home made parts to do that and I am not able to comply. It would be better for you to get a kit and build it yourself. I spent months building my plywood helicopter. There are no Simple Fixed pitch helis, except the elevator helis like Reflexes or Havocs, which you could take apart and explain how they work. Sorry.

  • Dave, Your "the man"! I love the plywood chopper and all the rest of the wild ideas that people make work!

Love the skates and glad to see you have piles of pieces too!

also happy to see (by the liiks of puddud22's post)that im not the only one who has prob's stabilizing the tail on the Honey Bee!

Can't wait till tuesday when my king 2 comes!!!

  • Thanks kindly. I hope my next video (Proper Setup and How to Fly the Honeybee CP2) will help. I uploaded it before, but it didn't show up, so am doing it again.

  • I fly real planes and fly rc heli's in the down time. Ever flown the walkera 68 - what do you think of the company

  • I never flew one, but I have not heard anything detrimental, so would expect it to be fun too. Do you have one and how do you like it?

  • I like it and dont. The tail rotor servo burnt out after about 5 flights. And I cant seem to get the vibration to go away. It vibrates midway - not on low throttle or full throttle? Im still learning how to fly it really

  • Did it always vibrate, or is this from a crash?

See my Proper Honeybee setup video for help, and memorize my 9 heli rules, and you should progress nicely.

  • Great vid Dave! I enjoyed watching my dad fly rc planes back in the 70's. Complete with the old Kraft radios, which I think he still has!

  • WOW, Thanks very much. Your Dad will say those were great Radios for the time back then. We were all learning in those days. Does he still fly?

  • He'd like to but has trouble seeing the planes. I got him interested in helicopters but he gets so frustrated and quits. Now I need him to upgrade his computer so he can run a decent sim. Thanks for the vids and reply Dave. I really enjoy learning from you. Mark

  • Thanks very kindly, Mark. If you get the sim, and he flies, he will really love you! Get only the best one though, Aerofly.

  • Awesome vid and thanks for your heli history.

Very interesting. Keep up the great work.

  • Thanks very kindly. Watch for my newest Boneybee video and how to fly it. It should be public shortly.

  • Dave that was one of your best. And welcome back, we missed you for awhile since you've done a vid. I too used to work around ch-53 (Sea Stallions) at Clark AFB in the PI.

  • Hey, great. Glad you liked my video. The CH 53s were what I did in the Marines later after Phantom Jets were phased out. CH 53s were great machines. Thanks for your service too.

  • PS- Here's my vote to see your old electric heli with the broken belt, to fly again!

  • Stay tuned...

  • very interesting to hear from some one who helped bring this hobbie to us all. really thankful you did.

  • Thanks very kindly. My hopes are to help others learn to fly with less hassles than we had in the beginnings.
