I'd have to agree that the wear on that seems pretty excessive on the barrel, but I will also tell you that coming out of the factory new, it is going to have some wear on the barrel. The scratches on the top of the chamber is not something that is going to be chrome smooth either, is is supposed to be a metal brushed type of look.
Other than that, I see nothing wrong with the gun, and they're guns that'll last you a lifetime...

This looks like completely normal wear to me. Of the several pistols I own, they all show similar wear on the barrel shroud after only a few shots, or even just dry firing. I have had a major CQ problem with a Sig p220, but this doesn't look like a problem to my eye. This is what happens is you actually use the gun - if it's a safe queen, I that's a different issue...
ha ha ohh my stomach hurts...I have read mostly positive web reviews on the SIG! I mean the SEALs carry them and all. But I think I might check out the CZ 75C, or the HK 45C if I really decide to splurge and bypass the SIGs)
I would always recommend not just using oil for lube on metal to metal parts but the wilson combat ultima lube, or anything comperable. Some sort of grease to coat the barrel and rails and so forth that will add an extra layer of protection under heat. I've found a significant decrease in wear from doing that. I don't know if your particular firearm has a defect, but you will get much better results from a coating a grease...personal opinion

I would guess you're running it too dry, with coventional gun oil. I have a P6, and have shot other Sigs. The trick is to use grease on the rails and outside of the barrel. I use artificial wheel bearing grease with Molybdenum and Graphite in it. I'm not saying you didn't get a lemon, but the Sigs I've been around have fired anything and don't jam with Sig. magazines and parts.

Well the barrel on my SIG P220 looks just like that. Wear in the same places and the top of the barrel is polished like that purely from use. Its from use. Wear is wear. Accuracy and reliability are all that matter.

Ive said it before, and I'll say it again. I live in NH and my local shop deals Glock, Springfield, and SIG. And they always tell me that Sigs customer services rates about a 2 even tho the product is a 10. And we're just up the street from SIG.
Sig won't get any of my money either after they screwed me. I almost bought a PTR91, but went with my RRA LAR-8 (AR-10) instead. I'm really happy with it. Also, got with the PTR-91 and not with that Century used garbage.

@kiwitedferny combination of sig's finish sucking and the parts rubbing together a little more than on the glock design. The way sigs wear initially LOOKS excessive...but its just kind of how they are. Ive had a 10,000rd Glock 17 that looked newer than my 229 looked with only the factory test rounds fired through it...both function GREAT.
So you sent it in, they polished off the phosphate coating from the wear area on the top of the barrel and shot it 100 times with no failure. Why are you getting rid of it?? Shoot it!! The new gun will have a break in period as well and might have failures in the beginning. Sorry if I dont get it bro. Good luck!

@cokeman2423 The PTR 91F, good choice. I've been dreaming of one of those for the longest time. Swap out that aluminum forearm for a traditional G3 wide forearm with the bipod, then in my opinion its one of the best looking battle rifles made.

Both of my sigs came with polished barrel hoods out of the box (im sure because of how much finish wear shows so quickly on their pistols)...but both have run great. Im sure after break in that thing would have been sweet and you would have loved it...but cs being faggots and the pricey fucker not making you happy out of the box does not a repeat customer make.

Sorry to hear the bad news about your Sig. I have a Sig P232 and it jams way too much. I am thinking about sending it back to Sig, so they can look at it. Now I just think I may be screwed. Thanks for the update! The dealer I bought the gun from will help me send it back, but don't think they will give me a re-fund.

Got a ptr not too long ago, a kf specifically. Threw a pwc brake and a wood stock on it- I really like it. The brake is a key upgrade, though it is loud as absolute shit now you should pick one up off hkparts .net

Ive said it before, and I'll say it again. I live in NH and my local shop deals Glock, Springfield, and SIG. And they always tell me that Sigs customer services rates about a 2 even tho the product is a 10. And we're just up the street from SIG.

Sig won't get any of my money either after they screwed me. I almost bought a PTR91, but went with my RRA LAR-8 (AR-10) instead. I'm really happy with it. Also, got with the PTR-91 and not with that Century used garbage.

Wow man, that sucks. I've heard of Sig's quality and C.S. going down the drain but Good Lord that's atrocious. I had a love hate relationship with Sig, the P226 Elite was great, but then I tried the standard model, and charging an extra $100 for a short return trigger that should be included on the standard model? WTF!? I did however really like the P232, but I'm not buying that overpriced .380. Sorry Sig, NO SALE.

@kiwitedferny combination of sig's finish sucking and the parts rubbing together a little more than on the glock design. The way sigs wear initially LOOKS excessive...but its just kind of how they are. Ive had a 10,000rd Glock 17 that looked newer than my 229 looked with only the factory test rounds fired through it...both function GREAT.

So you sent it in, they polished off the phosphate coating from the wear area on the top of the barrel and shot it 100 times with no failure. Why are you getting rid of it?? Shoot it!! The new gun will have a break in period as well and might have failures in the beginning. Sorry if I dont get it bro. Good luck!

@cokeman2423 if you shot 500 rounds or 50000 its still a used gun, its gonna wear. If they are refunding the money, thats really good for most gun shops. I have a firend how has the exact same model you do, first gen, and his wear marks look just like yours, not as much so quickly, but similar pattern. Still, its sucks you had so such a rough time with it....so century > sig? lol

@cokeman2423 The PTR 91F, good choice. I've been dreaming of one of those for the longest time. Swap out that aluminum forearm for a traditional G3 wide forearm with the bipod, then in my opinion its one of the best looking battle rifles made.
