  • Odetta could kick my bucket anytime..

  • 19 people didn't fix the holes in their bucket

  • Laugh myself silly every time I hear this version. Sounds like a typical marriage to me. I hear some version of this song every time I hear a really long term couple go round and round with an argument.

  • one of the cleverest folk songs ever!

  • this song cracks me up and makes me soo happy

  • Oh. My. God. Happiest couple ever.

  • @Joeguy1092 nope.. she told him how to fix it... she was not wrong, he just didn't want to plug the hole with a bigger rock to wet the stone to sharpen the axe to cut the straw to mend the bucket better then the short term stopper the bigger rock

  • @Tadrith420 best solution buy or borrow a bucket xD

  • @nickwalco - uh, like I said before Henry is too lazy to do either one which is why there is only one bucket (the one with the hole). It is obvious that he is just making excuse after excuse to put off the work altogether.

  • Henry was gonna fill the bucket , but he got high

  • brilliant song and i agree he was a lazy bastard ha ha

  • She stays admirably calm.. I would have smashed the bucket on his head by now :)

  • I love this song.

  • Finally a women was wrong... THERE'S A HOLE IN THE BUCKET LIZA!!!...

  • tengo un problema con la imagen no veo el vídeo, alguien me puede ayudar...

  • This is a perfect example of things going full circle as anyone who had heard it would realize. And yes, Henry is as lazy as heck.

  • A classic song from one of the world's most underrated singers? From classic songs to this! Superb!

  • typical man complain complain complain never do their job

  • funny as fuck

  • @loser3559 this is a song for young children, why would you choose such raw language in your comment.

  • @dcjc2186 because i can m8 ill do what i want

  • @loser3559

Clearly a name given to you, not one you chose yourself. Social experiments like you are one of the reasons the world is like it is. Thank heavens for the likes of dcjc2186 for speaking up and putting you in your place. Oh, and your retort was nothing short of an embarrassment. Now run along little boy its probably way past your bedtime.

  • @cheekymonketuk hahahaha your a funny person bless ya

  • its a song about a hole in a bucket. simpletons back in the day ftw

  • amazing how everybody still howled with laughter even though the joke was quite obvious and they knew it was coming..

  • The man has a point

  • My aunt and uncle performed this at my grandparents anniversary party, sang and played it out in costume, that was years ago, Mama and Papa gone now, both from Jamaica, Nice memories though

  • so get a new bucket!

  • Marriages break up because of bad communication. But this song is not about bad communication, quite contrary! The French would classify this as " Vive le Difference" The God given difference between male and female thinking and logic is what is being played here. When this comes to a climax. Couples break up! That should not happen! It is the fundamental way that humans were created! Men see the holes. Women want the fix. Fact of life!
  • My momma used to play this song for me on request when I was a little girl. She loved Harry Belafonte and I loved this song. Great memories. Thanks for posting it!

  • this song was on my radio today,

  • When I was a kid in the 60's we learned this song at my elementary school. In music class our teacher had the girls sing the woman's part and the boys sing the other part. I loved it. I bet the boys thought it was dumb!

  • thanks for posting haven't heard this is 50 years.

  • My mother used to love this song, and it's the first time I listen to it since she passed away. It makes me cry and laugh at the same time...

  • There's that little chuckle at 3:18 that gets me every time. I'd have killed to have been able to see this live. lol I imagine Mr. Belafonte with a gold light around him, anyone with a great sense of humor such as he displayed in singing fun, "feel good" songs like this has to be matched with an equally beautiful soul.

  • @Farandahl oh hell yeah, he's also an accomplished human rights activist, he's a saint.

  • @pyrrho314 ~ U complusive ~ insecure ~ weasel ~ inanimate object(s) & human being aren't the same ~ Re: re:: gratex, the fathead and such ~ good grief ~ now ~ would U take U serious * I did have higher hopes ~ FYI ~

Loved this song when I was young. Another of my childhood favourites was 'Windmill in Old Amsterdam', the one with the mouse going clip-clippty-clop-on-the-stair.

  • my mother sang many a song, this was one

  • This is such a funny song.

  • Does anybody know where i can find the 'B' side that was on the record of this ? It was called The Chicken Song

"We had some chickens, no eggs would they lay, one day a rooster, came into our yard, and caught those little chickens, right off there guard, there laying eggs now, just like they used too, ever since that rooster came into our yard !! "

  • @DrVoodooUK

It's on the Belafonte Returns to Carnegie Hall album...one of my favorites! My friend and I used this song for a test in our sign language class dressed as Mr. and Mrs. Farmer...we brought the house down!!

  • Nice touch with the Misery photos.

  • 50 yrs this version has endured. I hated singing this song in school... perhaps if the teacher had played the record for us to listen to, I might not have hated singing it in chorus.

  • Wow he sings this song. It's funny. I remember this from when I was younger, always thought Henry was an idiot, could never figure anything out for himself.

  • @BenjaminWirtz Henry was never an idiot - he's just like so many people we live and work with every day. He's the sort who finds an objection to EVERYTHING. You know the type - the ones who always have an answer as to why something CAN'T be done.

A classic folk song, brilliantly performed!

  • Mitt namn är Elaiza och vilken underbar och humoristisk text det är.

  • Me and my brother did this skit in when he was in 4th and i was in 1st for an elementary school talent show.. im a freshman in college and he is a junior talk about some memories coming back....

  • Oh how I loved this song with all 5 kids singing in the back! yes, for the first 5 hours.... after that, my mind slipped into... well, a bit s.kingish- like hatches, or a big hammer. Daydreaming away in blissful murderous thoughts...

  • The great Harry Belafonte made this song popular. Now it's remixed with another song currently being played on the radio.

  • How did this song gain so much popularity? My music teacher sung this to us in the 80's and I've had it memorized since then but I've never actually heard it until I searched for it just now. Who wrote it and/or who made it popular?? If anyone could tell me.... would be much appreciated.
