Take it from a professional audio engineer, Beats headphones are not worth the money. You are paying for looks and Dre's name. A better pair of Shure headphones will cost half as much.
comparing these to the 20 cents Ipod earphones is a real good indication how good your earphones are! NOT, haha, I don't believe there have been any earphones worse than the ipod white shit. even shitty MDR-E803 are better, and that really tells you how horrible those Ipoop shits are.
if you really want to get what you pay for, return these, and get a pair of EX1000 or EX800 ST
@borismontoya136 These are not decent earphones, these are high end earphones with industry standard inear studio monitors. SONY is knowne for producing sharp, natural, true to life sound reproduction, that's why SONY headphones are the industry standar for film makers and studio sessions. for ppl like a bit "color" to their sound, they can choose EX600,EX700SL, XB series or the new BA series
@borismontoya136 wait, sorry i thought you were saying the SONY ones that I mentioned were decent, haha, you are talking about the HF2, haha, yeah these are alright, for the price, not much to expect, overall EX1000 is just about the best IEM you can get right now
@nealdew71 No really. Try putting ANYTHING in your ear and make sure you have a proper seals. Use your fingers or a pair of $1000 custom IEMs - it doesn't matter. Your mouth is directly connected to your ears and the sound travels internally, no matter what you have jammed in your ears.
Blocking outside noises by creating a seal will amplify this effect.
@nealdew71 When you block off your ear canal your own voice starts to boom inside your head, this is what is called occlusion. Occlusion is caused by sound that is carried to your ear canal through the cartilage at the side of your head and usually escapes through the open ear canal so is not heard. When you block off the canal this sound cannot escape and so creates that booming effect. This happens with all In-Ear Monitors. Even $1000 Custom Moulded ones don't cancel this out completely.
@JohyeahM Yes common sense tells me that but thanks for explaining the theory exceptionally well it clarifies a lot.I am looking into custom building a sound system/home cinema looking for suggestions?
@nealdew71 Find me one pair of headphones you can listen to at a non ear destroying volume that you can't hear yourself eat in and you win 9001 internets. Most headphones would break if you sat on them anyway...
@Cooldog74 I stand corrected but I have owned ear/headphones that didnt break when I sat on them but I am only 13stone.What are these internets you are talking about ?
I got the upgrade, HF5, like three weeks ago and I absolutely love them. I've had several In-Ears before such as iBeats by Dr. Dre, Klipsch S4 (these are very good) and Sennheiser CX400 G4M3.
But the Etymotic HF5 beats them all, at least for genres which doesn't need that heavy bass that iBeats offer. I listen to trance and dubstep mostly which means I gotta use iBeats for dubstep and HF5 for trance.
150 series have a bump on the end to go with the shape of your ear any other JVC GUMMY'S are circular the just remember if you like circular earbuds when you see the number 150 included its got the bump on them to fit better but the color choices arent as good but if there not 150 there all circular
I like how you offset the volume of your voice by talking more quietly when they were in your ears. Great review. Thank you very much for showing them in your ears. Too many people would rather show what the box looks like rather than what the buds look like. Good job buddy.
The gold plating isn't a scam. The reason people claim it's a scam on HDMI is because it's a digital format. So in a sense, HDMI isn't susceptible to poor contact or wear as much as analogue. Copper is one of, if not the best conductor of electricity going. But it tarnishes easily (leading to verdigris). Gold is a nice trade-off between good conductivity and corrosion-resistance. Obviously, the better the conductor, the better the transmission of the signal.
@dogdog129 No it's not. Gold has a conductivity of 4.52e7 and copper's is 5.69e7. Gold is used because it resists corrosion better. That's why copper wires are made of copper.
Noice review, i agree after getting them. Btw where are from because you sound both american and english (but not quite transatlantic), i'm from the UK
great review, the etymotic hf2/hf3/hf5 (they're all the same audio drivers except the hf2 has the microphone, hf3 has the volume remote, and hf5 is the version without any in-line control/mic) are top of the line, audiophile quality headphones. they use the same drivers as the etymotic er4-x series, except they are mass produced and not put together by hand like the er4-x series. i picked this up at the apple store recently for $179.. im surprised etymotic produced this headphone.. yay
it has accurate bass response... it doesn't sound bloated and annoying like most bassy headphones... the bass has a tight, quick and accurate response on the etymotic hf2.
the etymotic hf2 uses the same drivers as the etymotic ER4-x series, except the hf2's are mass produced while the ER4-x series are put together by hand.
Cool, I'll have to check these out. By the way gold plating is actually pretty useful for analog cables like the one that goes to your earphones, but not for digital cables like an hdmi cable.
I just bought the Sony MDR-NC60 noise cancelling headphones, but as you said too weird to wear on the street, but brilliant headphones of you want over-ear headphones. Good review mate.
