Yes but you have to remember, each mat costs money, you can move four or two mats at a time with the spade or pay thousands of dollars to puy mats, pay workers overtime it is just easyer to do it all on the fly. you have all the lifting power you need why not use it.
Have seen a larger Marion 5900 do the same about 12 years ago in Lynnville

Good vid and awesome excavator-but i think it s not very productive- better to prepare the mats with another team ??
