The thing I am saying is there is no 'right' reason for honour killing. Losing virginity is not a reason to die for, this is an archaic societal concept that should be stamped out.

Well by religion I am not exactly religious but traditionally my family follows the Vedic religion but frankly I believe more in the advaita school of thought than the vedas( far too ancient like 3500 BC).

The thing I am saying is there is no 'right' reason for honour killing. Losing virginity is not a reason to die for, this is an archaic societal concept that should be stamped out.
Of course it is was to avoid having children on the streets(without parental care), but you can't kill some one in this day and age for pre-marital sex.

If honor killings have nothing to do with Islam, why aren't the perpetrators anywhere in the Muslim world punished more severely for the crime? They rarely do any significant jail time.
In Jordan, the government tried to stiffen the sentences, but Islamic parties protested, so the reforms were shelved. Until we begin to face up to the reality that Islamic law is profoundly anti-woman, we will never put a stop to the tragedy of honor killings.
