forget bookman and everybody else!NEIL CAN SING! WHO CARES IF HE'S GAY OR NOT,THIS IS NOT HIS VIDEO...IT'S NEIL CARTER.ANSWER JOHNNY BROWN GUESTIONS ON HIS PAGE.
i remember i used to get mad as a kid if i missed the opening intro sang by Nell Carter, then would have to wait another whole week before i could hear it again. Remember these were the days before the superb features of cable; and if u were too poor to own a vcr [*raises hand*] u were out of luck.
This was too rushed. It should have been a two-parter. Especially since it deals with the loss of a parent. The writers erred but did right by having Nell sing the classic John Newton (1725–1807) spiritual classic, Amazing Grace, first published in 1779.
omg! THANK YOU soooo much for posting this video! someone else posted it but deleted it later on so i couldnt view it...this video is so important to me because i feel that nell carter sang the best "amazing grace" ever!!! ...in my opinion =) Please dont delete this video and let the world see this beautiful song sung in the most miraculous way =) thanks again ;)
I never believed he was anyway. That friend of mine has a way of stretching the truth. He stated Johnny Brown was caught in a hotel room with another man. I'm sure we all would have heard about this long ago. The last time I saw Johnny on tv was on an episode of Martain. I hope he invested or kept his money over the years. Did you know, he was picked to play Lamont on Sanford & Son first. Would have been interesting to see him play Redd Foxx's son.
I never believed that statement anyway. I know his daughter was the wheelchair girl on an episode of Good Times. BTW though, you can be gay and have kids.
@caronji Yes you can be gay and have children, I never said that you couldn't. I just gave a little trivia, nothing much to it. Anyway, Johnny has been married to his wife for a very long time.
A friend once told me that Johnny Brown, he played Bookman on Good Times, was gay. He said he read it in a magazine years ago. Anyone else think this is true?
Ms. Carter, I regret I never realized your talent until you had passed. I have to watch this in private because it always brings tears to my eyes. Surely, you are leading a heavenly choir with your powerful, loving voice. Bless you.
I love Nell Carter and her voice was unbelievable. She came out with a song and I have been looking all over for it and can't find it. It was not from a play or TV show. I think it was a album but can't find out any info on it.
Ooooh Lord, sing it Nell, sing it girl! She's in heaven now, an angel who I bet is entertaining and singing for all those up there right now. My mother loved Nell and I'm sure she's still getting goose bumps from that woman's voice! RIP Nell. AMEN!!
Thank you for the information! I remember hearing about a partner that she took up with after she was divorced from the Jewish man whose name I also do not remember. In any event, I heard all of this shortly after she died. Very sad situation indeed!
This is a show that i grew up on, @pangie05 you are right they don't make TV shows like this any more. TV has str8 gone to the dawgs. R.I.P. Nell Carter you were truely Legendary!
@silverblack black famlies used have twight services in their homes. When I may grandmother died in 1979, my family had her service at her home, but people don't do that anymore.
@sekou566 Really? I never heard of people having funerals at home. There was a custom in the south where black people would have the recently deceased body brought back to the house after it had been embalmed and placed in a casket. The body would stay there until the funeral. I recall my grandmother talking about being scared when her father's body was brought back to the house after he died. That was in the 1940's. So glad people don't do that now. lol
