  • THANK YOU! this is gonna be my science fair project!

  • im gonna go buy some mike and ikes

  • t mobile?

  • How much sunlight must it be in to charge an iphone? can it do it in just daylight it must there be a directly patch of sunlight on it? I wonder because im in the UK where direct sunlight isnt as common as rain and frost.

  • Nice video, altho those mini chargers really suck, they cant produce enough power directly from the panels and must trickle charge a small battery all day which will never fully charge any phone or such device, and they wear out quickly had to manually fix mine many time now its busted and cant be fixed without a soldering iron.

Yes mike and ike sweets and well nice they just recently came to the uk.

  • Could you direct me to the location of the other video that you have the wiring of the socket adapter? I'm having quite a hard time, doing the wiring of the solar panel.

  • Can't I just open USB car adaptor and connect the solar panel terminals to it?

  • now i can use my 12v fan when im going deep in the woodz camping thanks a lot

  • might work under light bulbs but will not work in sunlight. solar panels output voltage varies greatly according to how much sun is hitting the panel. you need some

kind of voltage regulator to regulate the output voltage of the panel to somewhere close to 12vdc. if the panels output goes too much higher over 12vdc it could kill your phone.

  • @buzzardman2000 a 6 watt panel ? usb is 5 watt all you have to do is just take the 6w max panel panel and splice it directly into the phone plug ...done . unless your in mid day sun in the southwest you wont go over 5 w anyways or just tape over a %10 of the panel ,

  • OMG I never laughed so hard in my life :D

    well done guys!

  • T-mobile hacked IPhone.

    Just saying

  • can I wear this on my head?

  • Very cool! Thank you!

  • Where did u get the white professionally made solar panel i know ebay but fo you have a link?

  • @bushplanned911111111 Search for "ul-solar" or go to ul-solar(dot)com. They are the company that sell the panels.

  • what if my solar panel has 5 volts output, how do I use it with this car adapter? do I have to change the resistors inside it?

  • @dagobb you dont need to , usb is 5 watt splice it directly into the phone plug

  • Good Work Thanks

  • Is it possible to use a 12v solar panel cuz the stores I went to did not have 6 watts panels please someone reply

  • greenmeanpowermachine

  • @MindlesProductions

    LMAO OMG!!!!!!

  • Is it possible to get a solar panel that produces enough voltage to power an iphone than is 2.3"x4.5"? Thanks

  • SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT, YOU USE POWER TO POWER YOU SOLAR PANEL?

  • EPICNESS!!!!!!!!! =D

  • great video i have a big 18 watt solar panel i stick outside and does it work good for charging all my mp3 players ipod and i can even power a radio you have a good idea just wanted to share this

  • thumbs up for jailbroken iphone! :D

  • I will plug my dick into a girl socket :)

  • thank you TOM

  • not very practical and it's quite costly in the end but still cool.

  • @badass147 it really depends on where you are, or going to go.. i mean yeah if you are to use it at home (indoors) it would be considered unpractical and non cost efficient..

  • New Title: How To Nigger-Rig Yourself A Solar USB Charger

  • what????

you make a real stunk charger

you only need the solar panel, volt regulator lm7805 and a usb port!!!!!!!

in my mode is more eficient

  • how does the iphone not work wit some usbs it works witll all dipshit

  • @StickyMcFinigan Some do not output the correct ammount of amps....dipshit.

  • how is this not dirty power?

  • you are awesome!

  • lol jsut in class a few days ago i was thinking that apple should make a solar panel in the space above the screen to charge while your out in the sun

  • keep up the good work man!

  • Explain to the viewers how the max voltage should be near 14 volts. Also your dumb alligator clips could easily short the solar panels. Bad design.

  • @solobackpacking Thanks for the comments and viewing!

  • @solobackpacking can you explain why the dumb aligator clip could short the panels.

  • @solobackpacking u only need 6 volts to run usb

  • @wifebeater756

Watch the video. You may figure it out if you understand electronics at all.

  • Don't be such a irresponsible noon.

  • guys this adds up to about 70$, thers no point, get the Power monkey explorer, its way better i think, and stuff can go wrong, also, if u buy/make a solar charger not approved by apple, then if it breaks u gotta pay for a new one or drown in ur tears, but if u get PME then ull be ok if it breaks it (cuz it wont)

  • i wanna try to make this but donr no how can u make a tut

  • attach the solar panel to the lamp to create a continuous circuit, and TADA, unlimited power!

  • i bought the same solar charger that u looked at on ebay and it doesnt even work!

  • Pacifically?

  • Hm, instresting i have a idea for night time? would you think the light from a fire would get power? I doubt it because it's really transfering any energy. But, wouldyou think so?

  • or just buy the powermonkey expolorer for like 50$....

  • @GenralosityXL or you can make it yourself and have a unlimited amount of stuff to charge for a cheaper price

  • Cars need USBs

  • Your video help me fix my trouble. Thanks, man. You Rock, Bro.

  • What would be cool if someone could design one that fits on a backpack for traveling, need to reduce volume as much as poss car adaptors a bit chunky.

  • how do u know this is safe and u would end up with a voltage surge that could fuck up ur iphone battery life thus causing an epic catastrophy?

  • What keeps you from just getting a female usb piece from a computer or something and attaching the clips to that and just connecting the iphone to the female usb?

  • @TwasADream22 well nothing actually but having the car thing allows you to have a wider varity of things to charge

  • Ghetto shit for the win:D

  • Specifically not pacifically

  • U hav a jailbroken iPhone lol

  • Great job Robert! I learned alot!

  • how is that iphone on t-mobil

  • @tmjump96 lol it's jail-broken :)

  • @RobertSmith3 mine is on tmobile aswell, not jailbroken

  • @RobertSmith3 yea and its unlocked

  • @RobertSmith3 it's actually not because it's jailbroken, it's because it's unlocked :D

  • @tmjump96 you can have an unlocked iphone on tmobile.

  • yes..I'd love to see a kick boxing solar game video from you, the way you described it I'm picturing boxing gloves, solar remote to tv you'll probably need motion detector tech then usb remotes, theres a guy here on tube he makes stun gun and gadgets & shows you idea for it he made a star trek laser gun I liked you can prob start from that point, then create new ideas.. your vary detailed and thrifty good combonations. I'll keep watching your creations and inventions. best wishes to you..

  • Is the iPod touch as picky as the iPhone? I ask because I made a charger with a 7805 and then a usb port, then I connected it to a voltage source and I'm pretty sure the current was not a problem and I had 5V at the usb port, but my iPod Touch still wouldn't charge...

  • @weirdlounge I was wondering... do I have to connect to D+ and D- to something??? I didn't think about that... But I thought that was just for iPhone

  • Hey Robert. nice vid. One question: what kind of iPhone is that? I ask because the 3GS iPhones are very very picky as to what charge it will accept.

  • Use a volt meter to measure the current draw. If it's capable of more than 500mA then the USB is iPhone 3GS compatible.

  • you do a great job explaining solar so even i can understand it. how about wind turbines any help there.

  • can i up the size of the panel ? Lets say up to 12v to make the charge faster to charge it up? or do i have to use panels at a certain watt? thanks

  • Well the panel is already rated at 12v in the video, it just has low amperage. The iPhone will probably charge the same no matter what panel you use becuase it probably has something built into it where it will not allow you to feed in more Amps than it needs to charge. But I'm only assuming on that part... Just know you only need about 5-6Watts to charge it, and most USB adapters only supply 5v or so...

  • I saw a schematic that showed you need 2.0 and 2.7 volts on the middle USB pins to allow the iPhone to charge up to 1000mA.

  • The car adapter you used may already have the circuits to allow the iPhone to charge up to 1000mA.

  • @ElitePokerPlayer an iphone pulls no more than 5v 500ma

so if you are outputting more than that, it should always be at max.

  • @ElitePokerPlayer You need a buck converter to reduce the voltage from 12v to 5v, bigger panels charges faster.

  • nice videos man =) i subsrived

  • Niice one mate great idea thanks for the video.

  • Cool vid

  • Nice video, and thanks for the ebay idea for looking for solar chargers. Never thought to use ebay to buy a premade ipod charger. :)

I already bought my solar charger and it's being shipped.. :)

  • Thanks for the comment :D

  • shut da fuck up u little cunt get a fukin life you racist basterd fucker

  • Mike & Ike's are effing delicious. RobertSmith3 speaks the truth.

  • great vid thanks!

  • Man great video thanks... but do you know how many watts is needed to keep an Iphone on as well as charging at the same time?

    S

  • To use the IPhone and charge it at the same time, using my Kill A Watt meter I saw it used roughly 5 watts max. So I knew for a fact this 6 Watt Solar Panel would be enough to get the job done.

You can get a Kill A Watt meter off eBay.

  • @marjonel2006 Hey maybe there wasn't enough sun to charge the iphone outside.

  • I really like your videos and the practical way that you explain things. Thanks Keep the videos coming!!

  • 5 stars

  • wow you're hot!

  • pretty cool

  • Thanks for the idea. I'm sure many people are looking for ways to charge their phones, but will look for something that is really expensive. All the stuff you showed can be bought at radio shack for under 30$. Thanks. Mike, London, On.
