IF vs. DT -> theyre both different, but awesome, I would say In Flames only because Ive heard just about every song by them(My 2 fav albums are Reroute to Remain and Soundtrack to Your Escape, but theyre all really good). DT is more progressive though, so they tend to have more epic songs vs. IF having shorter, more compacted and layered tunes.

So yes, they are extremely similar bands. In my opinion, Dark Tranquillity currently makes better music than In Flames. But they were both pretty badass back in the day.
