I have the same problem and after doing research, I am going to replace the LCD screen. The first thing I did, was connect my macbook pro to an external monitor to see if it was the graphics card or the macbook screen itself. I'm typing this as we speak on an external monitor that is completely fine and free from the bottom 1/3 being black. (I can see both monitors when it's hooked up via the DVI external display port). Now that I know the card works, I'm gonna replace the LCD.
IMO, there is some cable or connection that will only get more worn unless you take it apart and repair it. You might be able to fix it by only replacing the LCD instead of the entire display.
@wikichaves I did not attempt to change the cable, and I think it looks like you must replace at least the LCD panel since the problem connection doesn't appear to be easily accessible even when you take the display back cover off. I suggest checking powerbookmedic(dot)com for detailed videos on replacing the LCD.
Like I wrote before, I have not done the repair, but you can check the sites of powerbookmedic or ifixit for replacement screens/LCDs. They have detailed videos, also.
i have some Display problem with my macbook pro, thr scream goes crazy sometimes and someties it works well. So my question is Do i have to replace the scream or it's not big issue ? I mean i jst have to fix it or maintain it ??
The flickering area soon went black. After doing some research, I found replacement display screens/assemblies from sites like powerbookmedic and ifixit. But, I also needed to replace the battery and the CD drive (because the lens gets dirty; using a laser lens cleaner fixed it many times). With these costs and always needing a computer for school, I chose to spend my money on a 2009 MBP (with applecare!), which has been very resilient.
@staver76 It's short-sighted to not realize all laptops, not just Macs, are more likely than desktops to have problems. I wasn't careful with mine and assumed my backpack's padding was enough protection as I took it daily to school and on buses. I know others who have the same or older models that are going strong. Apart from that and the CD drive, there wasn't any significant problems. This time I got a heavy duty laptop sleeve (Tom Bihn Brain Cell).
im having the exact same problem, when i pinch the side of my screen it works perfect, i have no idea how to fix it, was yours a cracked cabel or loose? or something else
NVIDIA publicly acknowledged a higher than normal failure rate for some of their graphics processors. After an Apple-led investigation, Apple has determined that some MacBook Pro computers with the NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics processor may be affected. If the NVIDIA graphics processor in your MacBook Pro has failed, or fails within three years of the original date of purchase, a repair will be done free of charge, even if your MacBook Pro is out of warranty. Go to the store and
I haven't fixed it yet because I don't have applecare and I'm getting by using a clothespin clamped with a toothpick touching the right edge of the screen. With that, I've had no significant problems, except a little embarrassment at a clothespin stuck to my screen!
However, it might be possible to open the screen (google should show repair sites with images/video) and more permanently stick whatever video cable is causing the problem.
Anyway, I'm going to the apple store today because I think some more recent problems are coming from the logic board (possibly because of the nvidia problems in many mid-2007 MBPs).
Mine is like that too

Does anyone know what causes this? I was thinking that the cable between the screen and the computer was off or something.

Macs are built to get destroyed easily so apple can rip you off even more for replacing a part.
