  • I thought the dancers were incredible in showing the hawaiian spirit!

  • DID THEY PLACE? IF SO, WHAT PLACE DID THEY MAKE IT TOO..

  • This is amazing. anyway, Feel free to view my channel. I have uploaded a 10 part Japanese Hawaiian Hula performance

  • This is fantastic! I would love to see more of these guys! I'll tell ya...what a way to lose weight by dancing like that. Maybe when I'm in CA I'll sign up to the academy.

  • Beautiful!!! Kumu Mark will teach us soon At Our Hula Club!! Super Excited!

  • Awesome.

  • everyone type in gift infront of youtube.com and press enter and see what happens!!!!

  • @haynsoljahchic, lol no thats not the reason, there are all types of beats and non traditional epu playing, his chanting yes it obdviously very different but the halau wasnt there this year due to a heavy schedule with other events. if he wasnt allowed at the merrie monarch the halau wouldnt have been invited for five years lol no offense im just saying. cheers to all you hula lovers

  • I grew up listening to Hawaiian and Tahitian music and dances. Everytime some were in the area we lived in my dad took me. I always loved it, especially the more martial, energenic sounding stuff. Mark's voice is the one I actually identify with the style of music. Damn he is good and his dancers are always incredible.

  • no dout one of the best kane hula of that year!!

  • I can't wait to see the men of AHA at KaHulaHou 2010 in October. Only two rules there: keep it Hawaiian, and KEEP IT ENTERTAINING!

  • I Love The MANA or POWER of Kamehameha Warriors in this Male Kahiko

  • BADASS!!!

  • The Academy of Hawaiian Arts is heading to Southern CA for a special encore performance on Saturday, July 24th, 2010! If you live in the SCA area, you won't want to miss this show: For more information and tickets visit: ahahula.com

  • How come Mark wasn't in this years Merrie Monarch ?

  • @MrNightOwl88 Because he cant participate because its not traditional... the way he chants and hits the ipu is too fast... I mean dont get me wrong I love it.. And thats why we like it because its so different. :) Its too modernized for the merry monarch.

  • people outside hawaii do not care about if this is traditional or not! we love the interest it has given us in hawaii , Mark and his dancers are the biggest credit to hawaiian arts I have ever come across, If it wasn't for academy of hawaiian arts, I woulda breezed through my interest in hula so quickly! these guys are mesmerizing as rbpat52 suggested. Simple awesome!

  • Oh lord, the voice styling and singing of Kumu Mark is damn INTOXICATING. His passion, as well as the talents of his dancers, are simply gorgeous. It's moments like these that make me proud to be Hawaiian. Lucky we live Hawaii!

  • people who take big risks like mark keali'iho'omalu will always be harsh scrutiny. i personally like his voice and his boldness to step outside of the box when it comes oli and hula.

  • who was it that ripped off this hula , if they did and won the judges must have been blind or something, this is and always will be my fav since i found the vid bk in 07 , they should have won :-)

  • Ke Kaua O Waka Nui

  • wow!!

  • This video is mesmerizing! These dancers are unbelievable in their power and synchronization.

I'm new to hula and Kumu Mark is very quickly becoming my favorite of all that I've seen. His voice is haunting. Great great work!

  • You should check out Obrien Eselu too!

  • Similar in feel to some New Zealand traditions

  • True. The reason is that New Zealand native Maori are one of the three main peoples who traveled to Hawaii 300-500 AD, and ancestorally formed the people who we today call the Hawaiians. The other peoples are those of Tahiti and the Marquesas islands.

  • No, Hawaii was first inhabited by Polys fr the southern Hiva isles, then abt 700 hundred yrs later the Tahitic group went there & imposed their culture and went to other places like Aotearoa. That's why theyre similar

  • This is a rock on routine with a rock on chant

  • this was by far the best performance for the men, as usual they got ripped off.
