Great work and respect for this cameraman. Simple. :) BTW Helmets Afrika Korps looks funny. F*ck actually propaganda in European schools, DAK was the best unit in II WW. Rommel is my favourite commander.
90% of Rommels men were Italian. Italians were left to cover the Germans retreat[so Rommel could save Afrika Korps] without transport, tanks, planes, artillery, food, water, medicine, some without ammo /weapons or boots.
Most Italians had been there for years, without relief or r&r.
The Italians sure know how to fight. How did you do in Ethiophia Mr.Commonwealth, had a stuggle had you? Learn some stuff befor you post it. Please dont make facts of you belives.
british?? commonwealth forces captured hundreds of thousands, in one battle the aussies took 70,000 italian prisoners, and the aussie 9th division supported by british artillery were the first to defeat rommels panzers in a battle during ww2
Concerning Italian troops. Well. They had excelent skill to surrender whenever they saw british troops and they had no motivation at all. Though they had exelent bordells. British admired it many times, when Italian troops surrendered. Mussolin and his troops were real new Roman Empire. heh heh :)
Churchill said once that it was only good that they were at this WWII with Germans. At WWI they were allied with Britania. So modest were Italys war achievements at WWII.
Mediteranean are and North Africa was strategic important area at war. Expecially Egypt and Suez canal area was a lifeblood for British Empire. Losing it for Rommel and german troops would had been worst nightmare and military catastroph for Britain. After that Germany would have had military rule over whole mediterranean area. It would have changed outcome of whole war, possibly not surely.
2-3 divisions at first (1941), later on they received more troops, which had to surrender shortly after Stalingrad.
Voiceover: "General Rommel in the forward field" -- German soldiers had a saying: "Where Rommel is, there's forward".
Also - as can be seen here as well - warfare was rather chivalrous in the African theatre; they agreed on cease-fires to take care of their casualties, POWs were treated very honourably a.s.f. Very different from the East.
Precisely because Hitler didn't care much about the african theater, so there was no political pressure to fuck with people. The lack of civilians also had much to do with it. Horsebuggery was unrelated.
In Tunisia (mainly at Tunis) the Brits captured more Germans than Russians did at Stalingrad.. hence the term 'Tunisgrad'. The US and French captured a few as well but they only had a corps each whereas Brits had 2 armies.
It would have been easy for Rommel (Hitlers best general and field marschall) to win british troops and conquer Egypt and Suez, but Hitler was stupid (again). He did not realize areas strategic value for Britain and Germany too. He did not want to give Rommel enough troops, military resources war material. Rommel won much larger and better equipped british troops many times in North Africa and nerly conquerred Egypt. Even british generals admided that Rommel was really great general at WWII.
It was not equal fight in srenght at all. Besides Rommel was not in Normandy when it started. He was wisiting with his family in Germany then. He heared about Normandy at midday time and realised immediately that the game was lost. His suicide is connected to attentat against Hitler. There was no evidences of his quiltyness, but Hitler was paranoid at that time and Rommel choosed suicide. He wanted only to protect his family from the examiners. He got the burials of German war hero then.
Sorry to say that, that's not a documentary, it's propaganda of the Nazis. If you see no corpses of both sides in a "documentary", it's propaganda. If emotion is tuned up with music or artificial soundeffects, it's propaganda.

On May 8th 1945, Germany would never be a superpower again. Russia won't be either. Both are suffering chronic depopulation

There were about 2-3 german divisions in Africa and 150-200 in East Front. Telling something about importance of african battles.

Hitler didn't gave importance, but the capture of Suez Canal and access to Middle east would have been of great importance for the war!

Always good to have a respect for a great general. British troops toasted Rommel in Normandy when they found out he commited suicide.

Has this video been "coloured"??
It looks very unnatural, I think it would have looked better in B/W.
