  • Wouldn't it be more productive to make a unified space agency. An ISA (International Space Agency) which would build upon the experience gained from NASA, ESA, RSA, and JAXA?

  • @jxvwp no. then there is little competition and therefore less advancement

  • @TheMCBADGER

Scientific advancement isn't the same as how to run a business.

People become scientists for different reasons than people who start up a business.

Scientists (well most of 'em) simply want to discover for the hell of it. They think it's interesting and the money is only a sidebonus.

  • @MrFalconfly hahayou are a prime example of an ignoramus. the known internet was invented through US-russian competition. we got to the moon through US-russia competition. Nasa has the best rocket tech in the world because of US-russia competition. how is money a side bonus at all, the more worth you show, the more you are funded and therefore the more money you get for your work and for further work. scientist become scientists to get payed for something that interest them, same as business

  • @TheMCBADGER

Yeah sure all those technological advancements you use everyday was invented in the cold war.

But how about all the other astronomical facts that you know diddely squat about and for the moment has no practical use.

How about the science instead of the products of science? Again sure some business man got an idea of how to use the phone network to transfer information packages but it wasn't that business mans idea to investigate the properties of light (the key to the internet).

  • @MrFalconfly first of all i know alot about astronomy and the fact that you use a baseless insult as an argument discredits you even more than you already have.

i understand we discover a lot of things that have no root in a competitive edge as a result but do you think we would know even nearly as much about particle physics if it hadnt been the basis of nuclear advancement.....

  • @TheMCBADGER

That wasn't an insult you pillock (that was one).

I was merely pointing out that there are scientific facts that neither one of us even can begin to comprehend.

And yes particle physics were developed on the basis of nuclear advancement but nuclear advancement itself was based on radioactivity witch at the time was viewed as something of no use.

  • @MrFalconfly What!!!!!!!!!!!!!! are you kidding. radioactivity useless?????? hahahaha no sir. radioactivity was discovered WAY before the cold war. and they made advancement in partial physics because they wanted nuclear power and big explosions

  • @TheMCBADGER

Read what I wrote one more time.

I didn't call radioactivity useless. I said the people who discovered that some types of materials (like uranium, radium and so on) emitted some kind of particle (Alpha, Beta or Gamma) thought it to be a quirky little fact but nothing more. Of course some people tried to figure out a way of harnessing that energy.

But you can try all you want. Some curiosity driven bloke will always come before the business man in the advancement of science.

  • @MrFalconfly no........because the business man isnt doing the science, neither is the government.......they are funding it. the curious man wont be able to afford the equipment need to make most modern discoveries. except mabey quantum mechanics

  • @TheMCBADGER

We're still back at the scientist who isn't doing it FOR money. He's merely using money as a tool.

And he doesn't care if his discovery comes with a positive rate of return. He's just happy he discovered something.

And as such an International Space Agency would still be viable since it has a bigger budget to throw around.

  • @MrFalconfly that is one benefit but it is a known fact that competition breeds advancement in all aspects. capitalism is not just an economic philosophy, it applies to everything

  • @TheMCBADGER

    Except it doesn't.

There are (believe it or not) things that are done better in a socialistic society than a capitalistic one. Just as there are things (business being the primary thing) that are done better in a capitalistic society than a socialistic one. If anything what we should strive for is a kind of hybrid merging the best of both worlds (while still having enough flexibility to adjust in all directions).

  • @MrFalconfly socialism breeds laziness

  • @TheMCBADGER

And like the typical yankee you are you recoil in horror at the slightest mention of any system doing anything better than capitalism.

But face it. A socialist system is preferable in fields like healthcare, welfare, and in some cases (note I wrote SOME) also the advancement of science since we now have one more source of funding that is slightly less biased in the advancements of science. Of course there might be a better system though I doubt capitalism in it's current state is.

  • @MrFalconflylike a typical European to resort to nationalist name calling when confronted with the fact that your socialist economies have made you a, although fairly stable, mediocre country. now that the euro is collapsing faster than the dollar you still do nothing to deal with the corrupted banks. the problem with capitalism isnt capitalism.its the subsidies that big business gets, the lobbying, the donors, the bought politicians.i feel we should have a Darwinian economy and social programs

  • @TheMCBADGER

Darwinian? As in survival of the fittest? Well the only part of that that fits with the scientific method would be in the process of Peer Review where a new hypothesis gets tested to destruction for any faults.

If the darwinian bit is in the product then plain no! That would filter out any hypotheses that didn't have any short term profitable results.

  • @MrFalconfly nope.

    LabX is the only lab

LabX discovers that money causes cancer

LabX gets money for books, funding, news, ect

    well....labX is wrong

LabY pops up and proves them wrong

    LabY gets publishing money ect

    profit and correction

DARWINISM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE GUIDING LAW OF LIFE!! APPLIED TO SCIENCE!!

  • @TheMCBADGER

What you just described was the peer review process. Which was one of the examples I mentioned where it'd work.

    Try again.

  • @MrFalconfly BUT THAT IS THE POINT!. JUST LIKE THE SWISS (I THINK) WHO DISCOVERED THE PARTICLE MOVING FASTER THAN THE SPEED OF LIGHT! DIFFERENT ACADEMIES CAME OUT IN SKEPTICISM OFFERING WAYS OF TWEAKING THE CONDITIONS TO OFFER A CLEARER RESULT AND THEY ARE SCHEDULED TO PREFORM THE TEST AGAIN IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS.

THE REASON THIS PROGRAM IS GOING TO BE BIG IS BECAUSE NASA JUST GOT DEFUNDED THROWING AWAY COMPETITION SO THEY ARE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF IT

  • @TheMCBADGER

Except peer review isn't for the sake of money but for the sake of being right, to avoid intellectual dishonesty, and most importantly to advance science no matter what you personal worldview says.

  • @MrFalconfly and there you are wrong....the guy that proves einstien wrong will be very rich an famous

    also naming rights

you just want to do it before the other guy

  • @TheMCBADGER

    You know what. Good night.

These exchanges happen quite late in my timezone (I live in Denmark) and I'm frankly a bit tired. Maybe another time.

  • @MrFalconfly i dont understand why you cant grasp the concept of competition, how it is the basis of human nature and how it benefits society

  • @TheMCBADGER

I do grasp the concept of competition and I do see it as a way of improving many things (science included).

But does it have to be economic competition (meaning the only reason to do it is money)?

  • I'm just glad somebody's stepping up to the plate.

  • America isn't 'Free' Mallard, neither is any country for that matter. The future of space exploration and hopefully more goes with the private corporations, or lack of resources on mother Earth. Any aim to improve our ability to traverse it should be congratulated and not condemned, if you do care about spaceflight mallard you wouldn't even care if Europe is attempting to move into the space market, although as a British citizen I can agree that Americas cuts on the space program are a shame.

  • @tyrokiller

Yes, there are degrees of freedom. I've enjoyed greater than many, even you. I'm not condemning the noble aim, just this unnecessary action to build the ESA up by tearing NASA apart and re-purposing it. It is like the EU cutting your home in quarters to use as a base to build four more, none of which goes back to you. Nobody really 'advances' through the destruction of others. Obama is willfully destroying the US, as if he thinks our spirits will die! He needs to go to prison!

  • 10 trillions of debts, you call it tough economy, huh? without constant money flows from loaner countries, world trade operations in dollars and wars in gulf in attempts to take over oil fields, usa will be another banana republic with quality of life like in romania. this day will come sometime.

  • @a1oner

Young Russian, didn't Russia default on its loans some time back? Yes! So you mean poor quality of life like Romania and Russia, don't you? And our govt did this on purpose, as did your govt to your people and the Romanian govt to that people. Now it will be a world govt harming everyone! See? Its a failure of those who govern because of what they dare, NOT of the People abused by those govts!

  • Seems to me that mallardhead guy is quite the politician, he obviously knows what he's talking about.

  • @Speculationist

Thanks! I'm old and have seen the world changing! I was a progressive elitist once. Then I learned better. The few must never dictate to the many. Abuse always follows when that happens....

  • with the end of the american space shuttle missions wtf ?

  • wtrf with the end of the space shuttle missions ? wtf\

  • fix the audio you cheap fucks, I'm trying to learn...god damn

  • Tough economy? You mean the Obama Destroy the USA plan? He needs to go to prison! Its a shame Obama is handing the EU the chief place in the space race. They do not deserve it. Enjoy it for a while, though! He will get the boot and we, the USA, will be back up front in no time!

  • @mallardhead

Actualy you can thank Bush for the destruction of the US, he started 2 wars that cost billions, he was unable to regulate the economy so that the finance crisis happend.

Bush is responsible for the fact, that the US will become a third world country within the next 10 years

  • @Hagenfels

Actually, dear German, I can "thank" a number of past Presidents and Congresses. While the People were thinking 'Republic' or not thinking at all, the Elitist Progressives moved in to control most things. Soon it will be all things, as it is with you in EU. Yes! Govt did it! You are generous saying ten. I think it less than five! But the People are still great! They may be cowed, for now, but they are great! Aren't the German People more than your govt thinks of them? More than cows?

  • @mallardhead

    AHAHAHA "elitist progressives"

This tool has been spoon fed retarded fox news bullshit and thinks "HE KNOW POLITIK STUFF"

Elite is a GOOD word, it's a COMPLIMENT, it's only used as a derogatory term by unintelligible lower/working class who can't understand what is going on in politics/business/science. It's akin to jocks in high school beating on nerds.

Grow up dipshit, and get a clue. You'd have died of smallpox stuck in your cave without "elitist progressives".

  • @Moirera

Agreed, when an elite uses his intellect and circumstance for the good of all people he IS good. But when he uses it to take advantage of them he IS bad. Elites must be judged individually by what they say and do, just like everyone else. Long before fox started pointing them out, some elites were at this game- ie. 1933, the Humanist Manifesto. It states the intention to dominate. You need to do the review, dip stick! Some EP's will infect you with superpox and feel good about doing it

  • @Moirera

The problem with 'progressivism' is not the progress, but in how progressives circumvented our Constitution. In 110 years they have essentially negated it, allowing The People to be dominated by taxation without representation, socialized education, the Fed, etc. People need to be free to make their own decision, not have an elitist decide for them. The fewer to choose makes corruption of the choices a much easier thing. You won't understand that until it hits you in the face. It will!

  • @mallardhead

Right, blame Obama that is actualy trying to restore the economy previously destructed by the previous administration.

He's cutting fundings because, when you are in a finance crisis, want it or not, you've got to cut somewhere.

EU do not deserve it? Well, if they can accomplish it, they deserve it. So stfu USA fanboy.

PS: I hate patriotic ppl. It's not because some people from your country did great thing, that it makes *you* better. You had nothing to do with it.

  • @vava54own

Right, his ilk did this and they've no intention of restoring the economy except to the total control and command of their elitist few. Freedom is not dead, however! You live as the bootlicker you are. It is, after all, your history. x The EU will accomplish it as a successful thief. x Better? I'm not better and never have been better, just more free. You will never understand that. *you* will always be less than me for that reason! It has nothing to do with patriotism but USA is #1.

  • @mallardhead

Oh I see what you did there... Obvious troll is obvious. Or you're just another deluded american.

  • @vava54own

When you 'troll' it's just fine, eh, Troll? Deluded? No! Well, wait! For many years I bought the Elitist Progressive propaganda, so I was deluded! Then I learned real history. There IS something special about the American People. We will clean house and we will come back. We will lead the world again, not so much as Americans, but as those who will be Freemen on the earth.

  • @mallardhead

Damn, you are stupid. Search youtube for: "Bill Maher - New Rules: America Isn't #1"

  • @Retrry

"Damn, you are stupid (Retrry)! ... ' "Bill Maher- New Rules: America Isn't # 1" ' may work for a while. A deceptive Obama govt makes that a sure thing for now! But since the deception is out they will not last long... unless Mao's gun is pointed at our heads. Time for a Redo on govt, as per our original founding document!

  • @mallardhead You are so full of your self! You call EU a thief, yet I wonder if you can realise how many great scientists have USA imported form Europe in the last 70 years. It wouldn't be as great if it weren't for them. So at least have a little respect when you talk about EU.

On another line of thought, i am currently studying aerospatial engineering, and I'd love to some day work at the ESA.

  • @EvilLord666

I'm not full of self, just realistic. We did not 'import' them, they legally immigrated to be free, live and work in the best possible environment. They were welcomed and became a part of us. I respect that (being of partial European descent myself)! x A thief steals or receives stolen goods. In this case the primary thief is Obama and the secondary is the EU govt. Plz, do work at the ESA but realize it was made great by subterfuge and dissimilation. I wish you the best!

  • (contd) for the mallardheads to learn that there is a whole big, wide world outside america, wheras before they were likely only dimly aware of other states, let alone other whole countries... And i wish all those good and hardworking americans who may have lost a lot, the best of luck and a speedy recovery through this crisis :)

  • @vava54own NICE reply vava54own. Im not american and i know America is not totally full of the likes of mallardhead,- but its just a pity ppl like he/she give America such a bad name; I think u get a percentage of ppl like that in all countries. Thanks to the internet, Its probably a bit of a shock (contd)

  • @jeebersjumpincryst

I've always been aware of the wider world outside the USA. I've always disagreed with my govt's interference with it. We are not the Police, yet the UN uses us as such? Why wish us luck, however; knowing Obama never intends to let us be free and self-determinate ever again? He intends to make us useless cows like Elisist Progressives have apparently made everyone else everywhere! And question? Why was the world coming to us for education and help and support?

  • @vava54own you greatly misunderstand patriotism

  • @vava54own is that why he added trillions to the debt and the economy has slowly gotten slightly better without any help from stimulus.

  • @TheMCBADGER

Is that why you reply to a comment made almost 2 years ago? Lol wtf

  • @vava54own just saying your anti- american pro obama drivel is the exact opposite of reality

  • @TheMCBADGER

Be gone troll, you are not welcome here.

You can't be anything else than a troll, nobody is that stupid. This will be my last post feeding the troll that you are.

  • @vava54own hahahah all im saying is obama is a horrible president. the stimulus although making some jobs was only a waste of money, hes added trillions to the debt and he hasnt gotten us out of the middle east. his wife is living the high life on our money and he hasnt done anything he said he would, at least, the things that got him elected

and you call me a troll as a defense mechanism so you can denounce that hes a shit president

  • Respond to this video... plus he didnt have to cut the space prgram. you know how much it costs. a half a penny per dollar......what is he gunna do, give it to entitlement programs thatll just waste it away.....or is he gunna higher more government workers to do the job that 1 can. OH i know!!! his wife is going to higher an 18th assistant. or mabey hell spend it on stimulus

  • It is the shame that the Americans are cutting funding from NASA due to the tough economy... :(

  • @EntranceDenied its such bullshit. nasas space program only costs a half of a penny per tax dollar per year

  • I claim this 1st post in the name of the people of earth.

  • @CyberNeticRodent Might as well do something useful with it eh?

  • @handplanty i may visit a few times and then never come back.

  • @CyberNeticRodent Ha Ha - Nice comment!!! I lol'd!
