There is actually a presenter on a BBC house buying show who acts kinda like this, all camp and fluffy with the women but when the men talk he's just fighting to keep his fists down.
There is actually a presenter on a BBC house buying show who acts kinda like this, all camp and fluffy with the women but when the men talk he's just fighting to keep his fists down.
Its really more classist then racist really as Britain generally seems to distinguish, not by race as norm (not saying there isnt racism) but rather by social standing regardless of skin. If youre black, muslim etc and 'do well' you're a Briton if you're poorly educated and poor you're scum that they wish they could ship of to the colonies regardless of race. Its a silly silly way of view
EminemBase The beeb are a power unto themselves and when you see the price of the bloody licence it makes me quite annoyed. Having to pay for crap when the qualtiy stuff is not given a fair chance. This guy is a genius
@erbmanmusic Not at all racist, very very funny. My Dad was born in Jamaica and a lot of West Indians of my Dad's generation say 'HAAAKS' I did watch the series on BBC2 but i'd forgotten how funny it is. What are BBC thinking? 2 pints of lager gets series after series and they cancel this show????
To all those people explaining to other people that this sketch is not racist, i completely agree with you, but why bother explaining? Anyone who thinks it is racist clearly has no grasp of the world we live in, and no understanding of the word 'racist'. You could sit them down for a week trying to explain why it is not racist and they still wouldn't get it. Save yourselves the effort and just enjoy the sketch and let the others boil in their own ignorance and self righteousness.
I think it's a lot better than Little Britain (that's my opinion, I may be wrong). Peter's style of comedy is much more varied and surreal, whereas I find LB to be a bit purile at times
It was funny, lb i'm reffering to at first, but then the humour became too childish and more slapstick. I think it went that way because the material ran a bit dr. This is great, far better, but he's noly ever on at christmas time XD
Many youths of this culture, black AND white, use this technique of intimidation and speak in this way.
To anyone who says this clip is racist... it's your own prejudiced preconceptions of black people that have made the association. The clip doesn't suggest anything racist at all.
Did black ppl speak English before they were enslaved?Ooo... racism. People adopt accents and dialects regardless of origin. It used to be pure cockney in London. Now you can't really say what it is; Jamaican, American, Cockney?
Just because he said "ask" like a rudeboy doesn't mean it's a black rudeboy. Kids of all races grow up on the same shitty estates. Don't you think the sharing of dialect and language is mutual? Don't they watch the same TV shows, films and listen to the same music?
I like the show, but can someone please tell me why they feel the need to add a laugh track? I KNOW where the jokes are, I don't need to be told. S1 was one of the few BBC shows brave enough not to need reinforcement and now they've gone and ruined it. They even spoiled it retroactively on the clips show the other week. I'll probably still watch S2, but it'll be an uphill struggle, and I certinly won't enjoy it as much.
Apparently they filmed most of the show in front of a live audience. The dinner scene, the 'test' interview and I think a few others had laughter tracks inserted, but were from the same audience, if that makes sense. :) Though I do get what you're saying and agree.
I'll own up and say that's partly my laughter. I agree that it doesn't need the track, but i think it does give it a more personal feel. That's just me though :)
...this is 100% non-racist. now look what you've made me do, i'm going to have to write a paragraph about it!
Its funny because, as you can see, he is intimidating him. the accent is obslete compared to the humour your supposed to get from that, and the fact he transforms from a nice BCC presenter into an evil intimidator!

This is racist! It's promoting a stereotype that whites find Jamaicans frightening. Where could they have got that crazy idea from? I'm not paying my licence fee to watch crap like this! Of course, I'm not paying my licence fee even to watch good stuff like Spooks.
Something being racist isn't a problem. It's when the racism is clearly meant to mean offence that you have a problem. When it's done purely for the sake of comedy then people have to realise that and lighten the fuck up.
People who explode in a fit of rage at the sound of the word 'nigger' in a comedy sketch show and cry 'racism' need to get their heads checked.
Racist. And I don't spend any time paying my licence fee, because it's on direct debit. Meanwhile, a load of Third World freeloaders pay sod all. Happy New Year!

Britain is a mixture of classism and racism to be honest. Its a weird country.
That and maybe 5-10% of the population are "upper class", but that's where all the money is so the "upper class" pretty much run the entire country.
Beneath that nobody really cares about race or class to be honest, the lines between them are all too blurred...

lmfao this show looks great.
Trust BBC to drop it just because of fucking ratings again.
I mean I know they need to rely on them for profit but it's not as if this show was doing abysmal.
The Office had awful ratings for the 1st series too but they let it continue and look what happened.
They need to rely more on quality than fucking ratings.
