Incredibly hard to watch without crying. It's an animation, but one can feel the tragedy through the core.. The ocean is almost unimaginably vast and deep, the sound of wind, steel and cracks, people in panic, the sky and no idea where one is or should go or what is supposed to be done. I was 9 years old when I saw the news on TV, I'm 26 now and haven't stopped thinking about it from time to time. Rest in peace, Estonia and its eternal visitors.
This makes me cry a little, because my dad, my dad has been going with Estonia some times before it sinked, and when the Estonia sinked, my dad was on the boat (he is living now) but he had he's truck there (Scania R620) and the truck, is gone to, but my dad is living, and I can't understand just Estonia has been sinked. R.I.P People who died and people who know anybody died. And R.I.P Estonia. :'( Thumbs up for Estonia and for people who died on Estonia. <3
Seeing that empty lifeboat breaks my heart every time I see it. My thoughts to those who lost their lives, my love to those who mourn them, my thanks to those on the other ferries who did their absolute best to save lives.
so far but so close. today arrived back home from tallinn, cruise with my friends.so far from this but still sailing the same track as estonia. so unexpected so unforgiving . its just bigger than life and more than we can ever understand. rip. may it all be sorted out once and for all in soon future, for those who never yet found closure for this. extremly sad =/ but so beautiful ship turns to nightmare. i dont get it,and wont ever do..no words just, crave of understanding.
Let me put it in words you can al understand. On the high seas there is no race colour creed or religion, we are all brothers and sisters and when we need help it is our brothers and sisters who help us, because we follow the spirit of SOLAS for one day we may need help ourselves. God bless all mariners. For those in peril on the sea may god always protect you, and may fellow mariners always come to your aid.
I only hope the world, survivors and the victims families can one day get closure and that a new investigation into the true causes of the Estonia's sinking can one day come to light.
When 75% of the victims families and survivors demand a new investigation and enquiry into the events of that night, and the governments of estonia, finland and Sweden actively try and stop further investigation by american and german divers it becomes evident that there is something seriously wrong.
I am English,41 and a sea lover and have travelled in bad seas before.I remember watching this on our news at the time of the sinking and was deeply affected due to the loss of so many lives and the events leading upto the sinking.I watched a documentary on tv recently about this disaster and I could not stop crying.Even so many years on my heart goes out to each and everyone affected by this sad event.Certainly the worst maritime disaster in my lifetime.

cant belive how it could have been built that way. hundreds of lives gone because some crappy ppl cant do safety checks like they should...was it really worth it ?
"The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each person was judged according to what he had done."

The ship Estonia was actually registered in Nicosia, Cyprus. Thus as a celebrated pride of the new estonian nation, it was at the same time a landmark capitalist enterprise. Through leasings and subleasings, noone is really sure who are the people who scooped off profits from running a profitable but unsafe enterprise. Hundreds got killed this time. Next time when you enter an airplane or a ship, you will not have any chance to find out whether those exact same people are running it.
my father was meant to be on estonia on that trip. its unbelivable but he feeled that something was wrong, so he said no. then he saw on the news about this accident! R.I.P Estonia
The visor could not have possibly fallen off like the report says. The reason being that if so, the crew would've seen the garage light from the car deck illuminating the sea in front. Nothing like that was ever mentioned by the crew or commented on in the report.
Some f:n a-holes still try to convince people of some kind of conspiracy. By all means, why not, but pay some respect to the victims and the people who lost somebody they love or loved... R.I.P

Thanks for posting! It's taken me 15 years to be able to hear it, but it's been helpful tonight.
Don't worry about comments on your English, it's great! I'm sure the ones who criticize only speak one language and therefore are jealous, he he.
I don't believe in the official explanation, either. There was a safety/maintenance check 1-2 days earlier and the visor was fine. Plus I remember the divers who originally brought up the visor had to through other parts back into the sea. Suspicious!
the wheather only gave the accident a "push". These ferrys are made to handle this kind of weather. Im guessing that it was the front part that was week.
Yes, you are right U2chick, it bring tears to my eyes every time I hear it too. Have many friends who worked on the ship and were saved... some didn`t.
I heard that the visor did not really fell off. estonia couldn't sink because of the water on the car deck. the comission report is totally wrong. Till today we don't know why Estonia sunk.
well, if it would have been totally calm weather a ferry would PERHAPS have survived the car deck being flooded. But no way in that weather, the huge weight of the water moving around on the car deck will cause list. And when a ship of that size gets to much list, it will eventually sink.
The true is that after the car deck was flooded ship should turn upside-down but it couldn't sink because of 18000m^3 of air in deck 0 (under the car deck) this deck is water proof, and ship should float on the water. survivors said about 50 degrees of list. Ferry with water in car deck couldn't have list like that. after 30 degrees of list it should turn upside-down. Conclusion: there was leakage in hull.
I recommend the book of Anders Bjorkman "Lies and thruts about estonia accident"
you don't consider a fallen of bow visor as a leakage in the hull? :D
Well, anyway, you say that deck 0 is waterproof, and that is probably true. But, i also reckon, that a fully-loaded truck for example easily could brake a hole between the cardeck and deck 0 when being smashed around by the force of the moving water on cardeck.
Well of course that it could be the explanation. the sad true is that the "special" commision never check why the deck 0 was flooded. They said only about water on a car deck and naothing more.
Its nearly 15 years since it happened... and it still seems so fresh. We will never find out the full truth but even if we would.. it still happened. R.I. P
camoon wind didn't do anything to estonia.. these russians and amrericans and some other carryed secret military wepons and things on estonia and when estonians discoverd that they armed bomb on estonian bowvisior!
Do you eaven know what you are talking about!?!?! that is just a conspiration, a theory that some wacked freak thought was reality!
They stirred towards the sea and had a tight scheduel to follow. They pushed the ferry to its maximum capacity, the bowvisor failed and the lockings broke and then she took in large amounts of water!
Onneksi.
Well obviously she didn't sink by the cause of bad weather. I'm still sure that the is some kind on conspiracy in that case and it'll come out when the time is right. C'mon, why should so many people doubt about the reasons. Since the first press conference even the survivors have been telling that tha bad weather couldn't have possibly cause it.
you can say that. out of 989 passengers and crew 852 died that night. in fact, if you take just the percentages, it was far worse than Titanic. and it happened in so modern time, in europe there hasn't happened anything like that for so long time..
and to talk of all the conspiracy theories surrounding the ship... now it's been confirmed that russian military equipment was on that ship making it's way to sweden that night. but i wonder when will we know the full truth
This has incorrect grammar

15 years.... We'll never forget... RIP
Marcinacm1899 2 years ago
well, if it would have been totally calm weather a ferry would PERHAPS have survived the car deck being flooded. But no way in that weather, the huge weight of the water moving around on the car deck will cause list. And when a ship of that size gets to much list, it will eventually sink.
oku91 2 years ago
The true is that after the car deck was flooded ship should turn upside-down but it couldn't sink because of 18000m^3 of air in deck 0 (under the car deck) this deck is water proof, and ship should float on the water. survivors said about 50 degrees of list. Ferry with water in car deck couldn't have list like that. after 30 degrees of list it should turn upside-down. Conclusion: there was leakage in hull.
I recommend the book of Anders Bjorkman "Lies and thruts about estonia accident"
Marcinacm1899 2 years ago 3
you don't consider a fallen of bow visor as a leakage in the hull? :D
Well, anyway, you say that deck 0 is waterproof, and that is probably true. But, i also reckon, that a fully-loaded truck for example easily could brake a hole between the cardeck and deck 0 when being smashed around by the force of the moving water on cardeck.
oku91 2 years ago 2
Well of course that it could be the explanation. the sad true is that the "special" commision never check why the deck 0 was flooded. They said only about water on a car deck and naothing more.

ElinSunMoon5 2 years ago 2

camoon wind didn't do anything to estonia.. these russians and amrericans and some other carryed secret military wepons and things on estonia and when estonians discoverd that they armed bomb on estonian bowvisior!
jouumees123 2 years ago
Do you eaven know what you are talking about!?!?! that is just a conspiration, a theory that some wacked freak thought was reality!
They stirred towards the sea and had a tight scheduel to follow. They pushed the ferry to its maximum capacity, the bowvisor failed and the lockings broke and then she took in large amounts of water!

Hyvä jossitella näin monen vuoden jälkeen mut apua olis pitäny pyytää aikasemmin. Kyllä siellä varmasti huomattiin jo tilanteen mahdottomuus.
Miettikää niitä ihmisiä siellä alemmissa hyttiosastoissa. Voin kuvitella mikä paniikki.
Pimeet sokkeloiset käytävät, kapeet portaat, ihmiset huutaa, itkee ja rynnii eikä kukaan tiedä mihin mennä. Käytävät tukossa paniikissa olevia ihmisiä.
Tunsin sen laivan. En kylläkään tällä viimeisellä matkalla ollut. Onneksi.
StormSpirit85 2 years ago 11
Well obviously she didn't sink by the cause of bad weather. I'm still sure that the is some kind on conspiracy in that case and it'll come out when the time is right. C'mon, why should so many people doubt about the reasons. Since the first press conference even the survivors have been telling that tha bad weather couldn't have possibly cause it.

i never heard of this disater was this the titanic of our time?
Theshow540 3 years ago 6
you can say that. out of 989 passengers and crew 852 died that night. in fact, if you take just the percentages, it was far worse than Titanic. and it happened in so modern time, in europe there hasn't happened anything like that for so long time..
and to talk of all the conspiracy theories surrounding the ship... now it's been confirmed that russian military equipment was on that ship making it's way to sweden that night. but i wonder when will we know the full truth
