Can you please tell me what your microphone setup is? Makes that Goodall sound like a cathedral... Would you say it is an honest depiction of its unamplified sound?
@whipy We used a stereo pair of Neuman TLM103s through a tube preamp and with a DBX compressor set in stereo. The only change to the audio, in post, was the lossy compression that comes with video. Our aim was to be as realistic as possible with the sound, as these videos are meant to allow potential buyers to hear the guitar who can't come to our store in person. The guitar does sound like a cathedral; Goodalls are incredible! :-)
@SanjaTheMaster Information is at the bottom of the video description. Mark has tabs for these songs available through his website, marksylvester [dot] net. Thanks for your interest.
Goodall or Bourgeois Traditional Dreadnoughts are fabulous sounding instruments! I like something from both but both project well.
The Goodall seems to have a more controlled clearer sound where the Bourgeois has a lot of harmonic overtones which depends on what ya prefer. If one day I ever build an acoustic instrument I'd "try" to use some these guitars as standard of excellence in tone to achieve.
What a sound! I remember setting this one up. I used to work for James Goodall when they had their shop here in Kona. I really do remember this one as the sound was even more gorgeous than usual,.and I remember your name on the PCF and thinking whoever got this one was indeed fortunate! Nice job on the playing too.
@slackrivet Hey, very cool! We remember being blown away by this guitar. We recently got another one of these models made in the CA shop...sounds awesome as well. Everyone who plays these guitars in our shop gets spoiled by the sound.
Yes,..the sound is off the charts! I know you have all the settings with the mic set same for all these demos. This one stands waaaaay out! So full and rich ,clean,..angels sing,..Lucky whoever snagged this one up! You ever going to get one of Jame's crossovers? I did enjoy putting those together. Jesse Colin Young bought one while I was there.
@attybong Please contact us directly at hmtmail@hmtrad.com or 301-270-9090 for specific pricing information. The list price is $5,700. We do discount but per agreement with Goodall, we don't advertise our discounted price. This guitar is not currently in stock. We have one order slot open for December 2010 delivery - after that it would be at least 6 months wait time.
I'm going to post a video in a few days with my interpretation of this song. I'll go through how to play it if you want to learn. It's really not that hard.

I've tried their Dreadnaught and it was like no other. This Parlor guitar is quite something as well. This one gets that Steve Stills sound from 69-70.

That is one of the best sounding acoustic guitars I've ever heard. Just with that straight strumming demonstration you can hear a lot going on!

This guitar is absolutely brilliant, by far the best you have on your demo list I think :)

Can you tell me what type of strings are on this guitar for this presentation? Just the gauge will do. Awesome sound.
SiriuslyEz 2 years ago
Goodall recommends Elixir Nanoweb light gauge strings for their guitars, and that's what's on this one. Thanks for your interest.
