Devils were up 3-1 in this series and won this game on a similar defensive blunder that helped Ottawa win Game 6 in OT in NJ. So it's pretty insulting to credit NJ's win purely to luck (this is a Devils fan saying this)
Sens have never been a team to win playoff games with any luck. In all my years watching this team which has faced so much scrutany and bad bounces its unbelievable. But always were a cup contender. In 15 years ive only seen them get a lucky bounce 1 or 2 times in the playoffs to win a big game. Last one was corvos slapshot in game 2 ot vs the sabers. The sens will win the cup in the next few years, that i am very sure, when they do it will be truly hard earned and all the more special for ottawa
This was Ottawa's best team this past decade and they would've won the cup that year had they made it to the cup. (This a Sabres fan saying this) This series was incredible though and Jersey had a little too much luck.
That was a tremendous hockey game that night; IMO if the Sens had won Game 7 vs NJD, they would've gone on to easily beat Anaheim for the Cup in '03. And I'm a Leafs fan saying this. '03 was probably the ONLY year I would've ever cheered for the Sens in the playoffs; that said, New Jersey were deserving Cup champs in 2003. Won the conference final in a hostile environment on the road & went on to best Anaheim in 7 games for their 3rd Stanley Cup:-D
Ottawa would have won the Stanley Cup this year,...I remember Gomez after this game saying that the "Sens are our twin in skill, grit and heart, they have what it takes to win it all, just glad to get this win"
I believe Wade Redden should have that honor... seeing as how he blew the coverage and hasn't been the same player since.... but who am I to complain?
exactly right. And for some reason our ex gm retard decided to let chara go who was getting better to keep redden who was getting worse....fucking muckler. I feel sorry for murray. When he took over did you know that muckler had traded away so many prospects and picks that the sens BARELY had enough players for a farm team. In the past 3 years murray like all gms shouldve had a couple of real good prospects make the jump to help the gm out. Murray leaves a good future in,Cowen Karlsson and others
I remember this game like it was last night. After Friesen scored the go-ahead I was on my knees infront of the TV till @ 3:22 when I saw that play erupt I THREW MY ARMS IN THE AIR AND SCREAMED
Thorne is an idiot. Stevens won it before, why would he be afraid to pick it up? and i believe scott picked it up in 95 as well. hahah thorne

One of my favorite moments in Devils history! Winning in a hostile environment like Ottawa!

Still shocked all these years later that they went into Ottawa and beat them in their own house.
That is what champions do.
