  • man i want the PS2 version of this

the DS one pisses me off because

    1. my ds "a" button is broken... kinda makes it hard to do ANYTHING

    2. the forsesight glitch isn't there

  • i really can't stand the ps2 version of this game

  • How is that? Aside from being unable to disable effects (I have ways to minimize this) and the lack of a top down view (this has caused a few problems, such as busting a pyramid hidden in a pit that end up killing off half my party from an unexpected 6-color chain), I otherwise don't have any problems with it. After all, I've exceeded a billion total damage (see my "1 3/8 billion total damage" video for proof).

  • @ulillillia it's just the difference in voice acting for me they just seem off in this version

  • The voice acting doesn't bother me. Besides, you can turn off the voices, even in the PS2 version (for what very few options there are). I often find some of them annoying at times, so I've turned the volume down to the lowest possible but still able to hear it. I don't have much interest in the game's story though.

  • @thevirus513 Dude, this is the Best version of this game, I'm pretty shocked that you don't like it. In fact, you're the 1st person I ever heard say they don't like this vesion!

  • @Suikokid2 really I don't mind playing the PS2 version but I prefer the PSP version

  • This is an extremely old video. Back then, I was struggling. Today, this game holds the record for the most play in the shortest time span - 625 hours in just 3 months and 850 in just 5 1/3. No other game comes close. I'm regularly getting 8-figure damage popups and my DEF stat on one character is so high that even Uber Prinny Baal is having a hard time doing damage with his weapon equipped. This game has 1200 hours on it right now. Disgaea 2 is now passing 550.

  • Haha man it's good to see you were once new to the game :P I mean, obviously. But 41 hours and such low stats? I was around level 300 and transmigrated (stored) level of over 1k at 41 hours, and I'm only 70 hours in now and I still have no idea of how to do most things in this game.

I can NOT find a rank 40 legendary item to get hyperdrive. Or any high rank legendaries for that matter. T____________T

  • Find a rank 39 item (e.g. cosmic blade, infernal gun, longinus, etc.) and reach floor 100. Be sure to have a hand (bandit's hand works best) and a high-level thief and steal the rank 40 item from the item god inside. Level that rank 40 item up to 100 stealing another copy, and defeat the item god 2 and you'll have your hyperdrive. To find a rank 39 item, check enemies' equipment and the stage's bonuses (for high-rank items in the item world, like a chaos orb) and go after it.

  • can u capture monsterss

  • You can create them via the dark assembly. The more of a particular type of monster you defeat, the lower the mana cost gets.

  • @ulillillia

you can capture monsters by picking them up and throwing them into your geo portal, unfortunately it has a chance to kill everyone in there AND break the portal.

  • It's never worked for me and the only time I did that was purely by accident since, due to the lack of a top down view and the fact it was obscured, I had no idea it was there. Good thing I have a seemingly invincible character - Laharl. 3 million defense, 4 million attack, 2 million speed, 7 million HP... you get the picture. The original Baal couldn't scratch him at all and prinny probably would have a hard time too, though I have yet to see prinny Baal.

  • @hdmac621

if you throw a weakend monster into your base panel you can capture them.

Cant do it with humanoids though

  • gather 300 statistician in the item world, put them on any equip, gives 300% exp extra, and for vyer's castle, just check the map,1 char can easily finish that

  • If you've watched my latest Disgaea videos, you'll see that even Priere, Marjoly, and item god 2's are wimps - they miss frequently and if they hit, they do 0 damage. I've also got videos detailing the clone wars trick, of which I've used extensively to level up and I can, in theory, get level 9999 in only 2 hours, though I regularly get it in 9 hours. I recently got bored of Disgaea so it'll be a while before I return. With 2.4 million attack, 1.6 million defense and 1.7 million speed....

  • A good trick to leveling early in the game is to go to the 2nd stage of Dinero Palace, and get on the platform on the right side, and throw an enemy all the way back, and throw all other enemies into that enemy, and then take the mega enemy out. There is a chance of the enemy getting unstuck, but most of the time it'll just stay there and take your hits, but make sure to not get too close, and poison it if you can (archer helps greatly here)

  • I've actually never seen the Dinero Palace. I couldn't get past Vyer's Castle's final area because of "enemy boost x6". I had to level up a lot that way and back when I recorded this video, I didn't know about the "supering" trick that I've actively used for clone wars since. Now I hit level 9999 in only about 9 hours (2 hours theoretical fastest) and I have 2 characters capable of doing a million damage unaided (that is, without braveheart, magic boost, or attack+50 pyramids).

  • Just bring out some ally and have another one toss him in the direction of the geo symbols. Destroy them and the enemy boost will go away.

  • I did that, but it didn't work as I still lost about 5 of my allies due to the 180 damage those wizards did because they could strike from a far away spot. One option I could've done, though I didn't think about it at the time, was to throw the wizard off that panel. Today, I face level 9999 enemies without even taking any damage, unless surrounded on all 4 sides where in that case, it's only a mere 20,000 (nothing on 300,000+ HP). A combo count of 3 or higher is troublesome.

  • I am playing this game now. Still in level 12 after 3 hours.

  • It's slow starting out. Soloing, at least for me, seems to be the best way to level up. If you're not having troubles with the enemies as they are, consider throwing enemies into others to level them up. Double the level, until 100, experience is quadrupled (HL is always quadrupled, even if 9999). This will help you get started. Back when this video was recorded, I didn't know about that. The item world is your next step so you can get "sentry" specialists and it'll be fast from there on.

  • I'll try. Thank you.

  • its actually quite easy to lv up in this game, once you're able to finish item worlds.go and get statitician up to 300 on any equip and give it to a char, that will speed up.and for vyer's castle, you can finish that map with 1 char, because its possible just to move past that mage and destroy the geo panels with a blade rush...

  • very nice nick another awesome game and a game i like alot as well. yeah this is Disgaea is part 1 of the series. very impressive as always on what u doing with the game.

  • the Prince of Grind in the realm of Boring...

  • Looking forward to seeing more Disgaea videos from you

  • great that you started this game... getting to 9999 is nothing compared to how far this game can go, with transmigrations and such

  • ulillia, listen buddy, you need help, right now. listen listen listen, you need to use the monster senate to pass a bill, for glasses, pass bills to up your item cost, aka, more expensive items.. then look for an item, its a pair of glasses, they are called 'foresight'. you'll want these, then go to itemworld,a nd remove the special unlocked occupants, and put them on ANY item you want.. and enjoy disgaea, you just ended your stat challenge man.. you'll be here FOREVER.. 9999 is only the start

  • That glitch doesn't work on the PS2 version. It's only in the PSP version.

  • I know there is a version on DS. PSP too?

  • ulil, i like your other vids, but my homie, if you want REAL disgaea tips, you need to be asking me lol, i've beaten every nis game, and i had a baaad habit of perfecting weapons and stuff.. if you REALLY, really want to level, AND powerup your characters, Castle of Ordeal Level 4, and Item World, is the only two places to start at. get to level 80 and then start doing high level healing item, item worlds., if you press b and go back you change the item rarity, so try a gold item world!

  • Stop doing the low levels over and over again

  • ulillillia I am going to send you an AR Max.

This game is literally going to waste decades of your life if action is not taken.

  • nah, it's not so bad.

i have a bunch of level 3000 characters and 4 lv9999 Nekomatas on Disgaea 2, and that's only 195 hours.

you need to learn where and how to level, that's all there is to it.

  • @DavetzWin davetz is right, its easy to get the first 9999, build up some nekomatas at the dallos river area. simply start with getting a 50, th en a 100, then a 200, then a 400, then a 800, then a 1000 (dont skip ahead to 1600, go for a 1000, then 2000, etc), throw a level 80 neko into base, then a 160, and so on and so on, like that, into the base panel, then have them fight one battle, then you can resurrect them into anything you want to use them for!

  • Man, you've been leveling up on some of the worst levels to do it. 5-3, 10-1, and CoO3 are all the best places to do it.

  • Seeing how he's still in chapter 4 that really isn't an option.

  • Yes, but if he took the hour to progress the story he'd level much quicker than just getting Laharl to LV 30 in 40 hours. Pretty sure I had the game beaten and my party around 100 by 40 hours in. <_<

  • and that's still very slow by most people's standards, now that I think about it.

  • No argument there

  • youre gonna enjoy this ulillillia

  • I've been waiting forever for you to play this!

  • You should be way higher than level 28 after 40 hours in. You should grind levels in item worlds, not the regular worlds you've already finished.

  • ... you've ruined the game for me...

  • I havent been this daunted about trying to get everything in this game since FF 12. I'm afraid of the thousands of hours I'll end up spending playing this.

  • don't try to get everything on Disgaea, the game was made to be endless, there is ALWAYS something to do... so just play until you are bored, the game is as long as you want it to be.

  • @DavetzWin bs. its easy to beat. the developers left little helpers, like forsights, and other things built in, like the neokmata trick, to make 'leveling' much, much easier.

  • you're wasting your time, get further in the game's story until you're able to pass the cave of ordeal bill, your level will sky rocket

  • If you really want to get to 9999 quickly, first get to Demon Rank 6 at the Dark Congress, and pass the bill "Cave of Ordeal". If you haven't passed any Stronger Enemies bills, there will be 8 level 150 enemies and a level 160. That's some massive experience if you can beat them, and it only gets better as you get more Statisticians in your weapons, and pass more Stronger Enemies bills.

  • Woo, can't wait to see what you do with this game once you get into it a bit! The item world will suck you in. As others have mentioned, check into the item specialists, Statisticians, who will make leveling up much much easier with their huge XP boost.

Getting up the level 1200 or so for the first time takes a while, but after that it's quicker. Then you can get to lvl 9999, transform them back to level 1, and get to level 9999 AGAIN for a super strong character...

  • Yeah, and also as others have said, progress through the story for a bit, otherwise it's difficult to get good items or level...

  • Disgaea. You are in for a trip.

  • bear canyon?

  • Hey Uli, it's been forever since you've updated your blog! Are you planning to update soon? I want to know how well your book's doing!

  • @mashuren Yeah, I used to read Uli's updates every couple of months, but it seems to have been neglected for quite some time. Come on Uli- your fans want to read how many showers you've had and how many packets of Hamburger Helper you've consumed over the last 6 months!

  • ok i know i posted repeatedly, but to increase story mode enemy levels you go to the senate and request stronger enemies

  • also you need to let every char you have go on the field and purposefully die so you can rez them at the hospital, the gifts you gain from rezzing dead allies are incredible.

  • ok from what im seeing you need to be doing a lot more of lifting/tossing enemies onto each other to make them higher leveled and thus get more xp per kill,

you also need to abuse statisticians and the triple xp senate request with the level with all but one block 'invincible'

  • ULI I WANTED YOU TO GET DISGAEA FOR SO LONG

when you get to chapter 5 stage 3 i think, you 'attach the rocket booster' by combining enemies and tossing them onto each other and then onto the only block that doesnt have 'immortality' as its geoblock status

  • As has been mentioned, focus on clearing the story first.

Also, in the end generic characters end up better off than the story characters (even if 100% all aptitudes is very nice for the main story).

As for other grinding, for levels you want to find maps where groups of conveniently-formation'd enemies with specific elemental weaknesses spawn on top of +exp panels. This happens several times in completed story maps, and it's well worth abusing.

  • I'm glad Uli finally took everyone's advice, Disgaea is perfect for him.

  • ullillia i could have just mailed you my copy. i enjoy your videos and I haven't played my copy in years.

  • Ulillillia discovered Disgaea?

    Brace for awesome.

  • You should combine the specialists called "Statisticians" They increase the amount of experience you gain per kill. This specialist caps at 300. A MUST if you want to reach 9999. Of course, at this point in the game. It's pointless to try to grind to that level. Save all of your grinding tenencies for the post-game content. TRUST ME there is plenty there...Passing stronger enemies bills in the assembly will increase the level and experience the enemies give. Just enjoy the story for now

  • Awesome game! Btw have you tried throwing enimies onto each other to create one huge super-powerful monster? You end up with more exp that way (I think)

  • Well, it was nice knowing you. I dreaded the day you'd discover this game, because you are now forever lost to the eternal grind.

  • holy shit, ulillillia is playing Disgaea!

a few days ago i tought about recommending the game to you, since you are into leveling characters and exploring the system of games (this game encourages you to do that, it's BUILD around that)... and now you are playing it! Awesome.

Disgaea 2 is also great, it has a few addition to the gameplay like innate skills and new classes.

  • Yeah I'm level 28

  • Also, you should try using fistweapons.

Countering bosses to death is awesome.

  • Wow lv 9999 About how long would it take to get that like 300hrs or more ? O.O

  • @pieman12345678900 Nah, you can increase xp gain a whole bunch by using the Item World to manipulate the stats of items. Also, there's places where you gain double xp and stuff like that. And the funny thing is, a level 9999 character isn't perfect. For perfection you have to reincarnate your character to level 1 now and then, bringing part of his stats with him. This way you can boost the stats to godly levels

  • Great game, kinda. If it weren't for the characters / story... Worst humor in any RPG ever... sadly.

  • @F3tusRape It's mostly mocking cliché's in anime and games, so it helps if you're familiar with those things

  • "XD HORSE WIENER".

    Oh wow.

  • You mad?

  • Stop browsing /v/.

  • Says the guy with memes all over his channel

  • 2, my good sir.

    2.

  • you should play Vandal Hearts (it's like FFT)

  • ps2 game right? can it be emulated?

  • I always knew you'd love Atlus RPGs, but I was worried you'd like them too much! Oh well, nothing wrong with enjoying a video game. I hope you make it to 9999!

  • Oh, and this is the first Disgaea game

There's also an port of this game for the PSP which adds some extra stuff, such as a new storyline and multiplayer

A similar port of Disgaea 2 has also been released recently, also for the PSP

  • I knew you'd love Disgaea!

  • Cool that you've finally started playing this game. You're really going to enjoy it. Cheers.

  • ...Wow, go ahead in the story. The grinding is really crap at this point in the game, and while I like to grind endlessly too, it would take tens of thousands of hours if you stayed near here. Also, don't bother leveling up these items, move on to better things. Their stats are infinitely better.

  • Armsmasters increase the rate your weapon mastery goes up. The cap for this specialist is 1700 I believe. I have a max armsmaster, and...well, you can get to 255 weapon mastery VERY quickly!!

  • I'm a bit rusty on my game mechanics, but if you're interested in raising levels quickly, I would recommend you start to raise the enemy levels by using the Dark Assembly, I think it's called? But the best way to level in this game however is to use the Cave of Ordeal which you'll unlock a bill for when you're high enough rank, I think. Episode 5, Level 3 is a good place to start rapidly gaining levels. I don't know how much research you've done on the game, but I'll be glad to provide tips.

  • I was wondering when you'd be playing this.

  • This should not be played like a traditional SRPG. You should not spend time grinding at this low level. You should progress the story more so you can get to the good grinding areas.

  • In my opinion, this is the perfect game for Ulillillia. So many variables.

  • >Giving a Knight's Lance to Laharl

    /facepalm

  • I was thinking the same thing.

  • Ulillillia, dude, you had a thread about what RPG liek game you could play and I suggested Suikoden, why are you playing THIS thing instead?

It's because of the variables, right? *sigh*

Well you're still a cool dude.

  • Ulililililia no matter what you become you will still be a hero among man

  • I love the disgaea series, but I don't think I can go back to 1 or 2 after playing 3. 3 has made so many improvements, like not having to watch the combat animations (useful when you're power-leveling... which feels like all the time!)

  • stop swearing in the comments guys! i'm really ashamed of all of you

  • Hitting the level cap of 9999 is faster in this game than level 99 is in final fantasy 12 though!

  • Hmm, you seem to be one of these new-age players who seems to think that if something is turn-based, its bad. Its your sort that have killed the genre, quite frankly, and made developers create shitty, generic action RPGs which you get for a dime a dozen

  • I found a village I used to live in back sometime in my 1000 year life, let's cry.

  • @xWoudox

Actually, my friend, I was mocking you slightly for making fun of turn-based RPGS. But, yes, plots for JRPGs are usually pretty bad. The "Tales of" series is a notable example, its literally just the same bloody plot over and over again and yet it still receives praise. I played Dragon Age: Origins recently, actually, and I was really brought into the depth you have in that game. But I still enjoy Disgaea for the game mechanics.

  • ewe

  • Can't wait for more videos.

  • Oh dang, Ulillillia is playing Disgaea. This just got real.

  • I was thinkin the exact same thing

  • Oh man, oh man. I'm already excited. As you progress through the story mode, you'll enjoy many places where you can level up weaker characters once you've acquired weapons that have been levelled up and filled with specialists! The area I last used in the Cave of Ordeals allowed me to level from 1 to 150 in one attack.

  • Also, just to fill you in on a few things, the ADD and BONUS specialists focus on some aspect based on their name.

That Armsmaster will increase the rate your character levels up their skill with the weapon they use. (Your Laharl is at lvl20 for Spear right now.) It's based on percentage, so a 100 Armsmaster doubles your levelling rate with weaponry.

If I remember right, there's a limit to how much of a percentage you gain for a few specialists, but I don't remember the actual limit.

  • Armsmasters max at 2300 for 24x gain. Statisticians (for +experience) max at 300 for 4x gain. I think the cash one maxes at 300/4x as well, but I forget the name and it's ultimately useless anyway so whatever.

You want at least one full stack of statisticians and armsmasters ASAP.

  • Is there any cheese pizza in this game? Are the graphics for the cheese pizza very good? 3D?

  • Cool, this is one of my favorite games, I was wondering before if you were going to do videos of it. I have the DS version though.

  • Is it as good on the DS as it is on the PS2?

I've never really been interested in playing it, but I guess I'll give it a try. It looks fun.

  • There's a bit more content, but the graphics and music aren't as good (especially the music). Most of the voice acting was removed, and Etna has a different voice actress. The top screen has a map of the battlefield. Some bugs were fixed, which could be bad if you like abusing them.

  • Nice video. looking forward to more Disgaea videos.

  • It's isometric, which seems to be common with tactical games (SRPG). A game doesn't have to be 3D in order for it to be enjoyable - it's the game play that matters most, not graphics.

  • Too sweet.

  • Yeah! Good to see you finally have Disgaea. This is the first Disgaea that you're playing.

The only pointers that I'll give you is that you'll get most of your levels from fighting in the Item World and you should become familiarized with farming item specialists as soon as possible. Have fun!

  • I've been using the item world quite a bit actually. Did you notice the specs of the "Knight's Spear" that Laharl has? The story battles only have enemies going to level 8 and the item world doesn't seem to have a limit. After a bit, the enemies start getting a bit tedious.... Poison status is the real problem spot, even more troublesome than those geo symbols.

  • If you create characters under Laharl, Laharl can learn the spells that those pupils know. They have to be right next to each other though. Once they are, take a look at Laharl's skills, and he'll have all of the skills that the pupil has. However, they are all at level 0. You have to use a skill enough times to get it to level 1, for Laharl to learn it permanently. So, Laharl can use Espoir (essentially Esuna) whenever he needs it. That will help reduce the threat of poison.
