They didnt only live in Afghandistan but also in the provinces of what was then bindia that have been formed now in Pakistan like Punjab,Kashmir,Sindh, you could also find Pathans in the bindian province Rajasthan and even in Iran wich you still see, Pathan DOESNT MEAN AFGHAN. Pathans are a race/tribe and most of the Pathans now live in Pakistan 30 million while Afgaynistan has like 17 million.

Peshawar and the surrounding areas were given in a 100 year lease to Britain by AFGHANISTAN - which has long expired. Peshawar was made the capital of NWFprovince by Pakistan and is controlled by the Pakistani government. 96% are Pakistani while there are 4% Afghani refugees who have fled from Afghanistan. Of the different Pakistani groups in Peshawar you have a lot of Pathans ,Punjabis,Kashmiris with Pathans being the most represented group and therefore a lot of languages are spoken like Hindko, Pashto, Urdu.

Al Queda and the legacy of Daniel Pearl - I think this would be a very necessary destination for those who want to sample places "off the beaten path". Very exotic city - hauntingly, interesting people, fiery hot savory food, and never really knowing what to expect next.
