  • my mistake then.. cause they did the same in my location, but everything that was palleted we had to label for pickup and return.. everyting else that was thrown away just went rite into the dumpsters.. i think we went through about 3 40 yard dumpsters.. we had 25 guys in my office and they left us with 4 chairs..

  • to be fair some of the stuff in this video is being shipped back to a warehouse- that is why its on pallets and shrink wrapped.. the stuff that was tossed all went into a dumpster. im agree with what your saying is this video, and they did throw out a huge amout of stuff - i mean a HUGE amount. but not all of that was tossed

  • @kctyphoon No, it's palletted & shrink wrapped because that is how it was received at the garage. I spoke with the drivers, they took it to the dump.

  • Zeewaker, you are a total idiot. It IS a Verizon facility, the people there were TOLD to throw it out, all the fiber are brand new reels, with tags still on them! Brand new fiber terminals !!! Are you blind !? Before you open your mouth, why dont you properly watch the evidence. This was done at NUMEROUS garages within Verizon, this is the only one that was filmed.

    Shmuck.

  • @ITALIAN926 I work for Verizon, am not a manager, but fall under management with no-reports because of I'm an engineer. I also used to have a job title with Verizon that fell under union. I've seen both sides and you union punks are sheep and believe everything your union bosses tell you. Also, just because it has tags on it? Idiot, you don't label your fiber after you connect it? Of course not, you're union so chances are you do a half-ass job. I resented you people when I fell under union.

  • There is so much heresay BS in this video. 1) where is there one shred of evidence that this is a Verizon facility? 2) do you really think a manager is the one throwing this stuff out? No, its the technicians 3)how do we know that it was a "foreman" [which position doesn't exist at Verizon] that stated stuff was thrown out? 4) We throw out used fiber all the time, how do we know they're talking about new/unused fiber? Point is, for all of you, if you hate your company find another job!

  • @zeewaker 1. Yeah, so many companies use CO relay racks and spools of 6 pair drop... it really could be anywhere.

    2. The technicians are throwing this stuff out because they were TOLD to by managers scared to death of losing their jobs because the new CEO doesn't like "clutter"

    3. foreman, team leader, 1st level manager, all interchangeable titles, ALL of which are used regularly at Verizon, and have been since it was Ma Bell.

    4. used fiber doesn't have tags on it.

  • @FLASHMAN1973 1. There's a lot of companies that use said items. 2. I've never perfectly good equipment in the trash because my boss told me to. There's a process that gets it picked up and removed from your CO. 3. If the person that made this video worked for Verizon, and didn't have an agenda, he would've used either "supervisor, "team leader", or section manager. 4. My used fiber has tags on it. A good tech labels his fiber - I'm a VZ engineer (non-union but no reports) So I think I know

  • @zeewaker and we don't hate our jobs, we LOVE our jobs, we hate the idiots running the company that care more about the bottom line than they do about customer service. The bottom line is important, sure, but when a company puts its primary focus on REAL customer service, the bottom line takes care of itself. That's a fact.

  • @FLASHMAN1973 As I posted in you're other response, I'm an engineer at Verizon, therefore I'm salaried, fall under management, but have no reports. I worked as a COT many years ago and couldn't stand it because I felt the union held me back. Here I am, making way more than I did, and even though I pay for my own healthcare, I have choices with it and its great. If I'm sick, I use a sick day, not have an "incident" marked. I feel unions are for the weak minded. The stuff they say. Unprofessional

  • @zeewaker In your opinion then, are your children are taught by unprofessional, weak minded teachers just because they belong to a union? Are you protected by an unprofessional, weak minded police force? Were the founders of the United States unprofessional and weak minded when they realized the states could better themselves by uniting and forming a union? You have an "interesting" point of view.

  • @If you read what I wrote, you would see that I am speaking about communication company unions. If I wrote "the union", nobody would know which one because there are 2 for communication companies, so I just wrote "unions". The other occupations are completely different. As for your "founding fathers" comment; Really? That's a really asinine statement. Comparing The Union of States to a labor union. Ridiculous.

  • @If you read what I wrote, you would see that I am speaking about communication company unions. If I wrote "the union", nobody would know which one because there are 2 for communication companies, so I just wrote "unions". The other occupations are completely different. However, comparing The Union of States to a labor union. That's just asinine. Anyway, the idea of organized labor didn't even occur until late 1800's.

  • @zeewaker Also...Would you like to give up weekends and a forty hour work week? Because if you enjoy those, you owe a bit of respect to unions for gaining those standards many years ago.

  • @1nystateofmind I don't have a 40 hour work weak. I am salary and with my job, I may need to put in more hours and I won't see a difference in my paycheck. I may need to work on the weekend. Sometimes I do. Sometimes I may need to come in at midnight because a process that we are doing will have less impact on others doing it out of hours. So I'm not garaunteed those things in the first place. However, I make more than when I was under a union contract and I get raises on my own merit.

  • @zeewaker I'm a lineman in Jersey. This has been happening in every garage in the state since the beginning of the year. It is all unused equipment, thrown in a dumpster and driven to the dump. I don't know where you are from, but in Jersey we call the first level managers Foremen. The Foremen had us fill these dumpsters on orders from the VP of FiOS. Get your facts straight. Oh wait, you're an engineer, nevermind.

  • I work for AT&T and they are idiots too. I guess it's a phone company thing !

  • Yes my friends, it is true. The people running Verizon are total idiots! I retired after 44 years and have seen so much mismanagement, I am ashamed to tell people I worked for Verizon. Why isn't the PSC or FCC shutting Verizon down until they get their act together? Bravo for the brave employees who have exposed this unbelievable travesty.

  • Good video CWA 1101

  • this is the managements way of cleaning garages, it is not ok to have anything in stock so they throw things out instead of having stocked shelves to let it's employees do their jobs.

  • As a union guy from new jersey, I can confirm that we filled a dumpster with perfectly good materials with no regard to either the financial or environmental impact that it has. Verizon does not give a shit how much money it wastes. Oh and NHS. So does Q and uncle phil too!!! Lakewood maximum security prison

  • management has been pissing down our necks and telling us it's rain for a long time now.Glad I got the hell out in July of 2010 after 30 years....... 1101 Bronx

  • And this is only one company out of thousands.

  • They have never sold JUST CORE. Frontier obtained 100,000+ FiOS customers in the last big sale... and with the shit Frontier is pulling right now screwing over their FiOS customers, I doubt Verizon will be granted any more sell-offs.

  • @ITALIAN926 Can it honestly be called a sale if we retained 51% of Frontier's stock?

  • Comment removed

  • Throwing out the clutter is what you do when you ready to sell. Lips stick and rouge. Get it folks, Verizon will announce a sale of core after a contract extension.

  • Love love love this. KUDOS anonymous....from another 1123 member.

  • You verizon union members need to record and post more evidence like this.

  • IMO, If a few garages had managers directing them to waste, something that is completely unethical, the guys shouldve said "F-U we're not doing it". Yea, let them suspend someone for not following THOSE directives. Every manager responsible for this waste should be suspended, or worse.

  • Last note for the night. Verizon just declared a surplus within the last month or so claiming they don't need all the employees they currently have. They also stopped the Fios build on Long Island because of financial reasons yet they can afford to throw away millions of dollars of tools and supplies. Why isn't the press all over this??? Where are the politicians standing up for not only the workers but also the customers???

  • Just a side note it was CWA members who went into several dumpsters and retrieved boxes that contained binders full of verizon employees personal information. Copies of drivers licenses, social security #'s, home adresses, telephone #'s, etc... It contained manager's information as well. They turned it over to the union and once again no public outrage and upper management denials.

  • CWA did step in and not only reported it to upper management they also reported it to the press and the PSC. Amazing that the press didn't jump all over it and/or the PSC demand an investigation. Just shows you once again that no one holds big business responsible for anything. Upper management of course claimed they were unaware of the waste. No CWA members helped them do this they were directed to do it. They then reported it to the locals.

  • OK OK I'm done ranting............for today

  • It seems as though we are being led by a "Legion of Losers". Gone is the "hands on" Supervisors, replaced by the "e-mail/texting Minions" ! Caught up in the world of "Buzz words" and Bull crap!.......

  • Verizon is saving millions on truck maintenance - at the expense of the safety of the technicians driving the trucks, and the public unfortunate enough to be on the road with these timebombs. Preventative maintenance is not being done-that costs money, and cuts into 2nd level bonuses. Cant have that. So what if steering, braking, and suspension systems fail completely. Happens all the time right? Its amazing a technician or member of the public hasnt been hurt or killed yet.

  • The problem is that we don't (with a few exceptions) have ANY management that knows ANYTHING about doing the job! They just do what they are told, by their superiors, who know even LESS about what we do! But, a direct quote from our now retired President Amy McDevitt once said, ......."Our management is not paid to know what you do.....it's paid to manage you"

That, without a doubt is the single most STUPID thing ever said about the phone company.

  • Imagine having to lie to your family about what you do for a living - while they think you are an integral part of the "management" team, in reality, you sit behind a desk all day and say things like "Get out of the garage", "Make sure your trucks are clean", "Do your callback sheets", etc. Why not just get rid of all the DEAD WEIGHT and send out text messages that fulfill these vital management functions?

  • BUT, oh you better use your Tech Wizard, and download the In Home Agent! So called "enablers" Don't focus on terminals hanging in the air, or all the broken poles that are hanging for months, or the cables that are delashed everywhere, or the cross connects that don't lock shut, or the piss poor maintenance of the fleet! Boy it's ashamed the D.O.T. doesn't check out our vans and bucket trucks!

Don't tell me......"it's not in the budget" .....go figure!

  • Let's name the losers.......Margaret Buban? clueless! yet she inspected a supervisors desk and was appalled to find that he actually had papers and spare tools in it! Solution: empty the drawers and throw everything away! And her boss? He was pissed because the techs don't Armor All their consoles and dashboards of their vans! Oh let's not forget the statement about being able to enter the side doors and exit through the rear doors! Dream On dude!

  • As a CWA member, Im not only disgusted by Verizon, but Im also very annoyed that our union didnt step in and prevent this from happening. Im appalled that our members actually helped in some garages to "clean" them out because some upper-management OCD fool was making rounds for CLEANLINESS. Sometimes these morons need to be told how to run this company, and we shouldve been the ones instructing them on how to do it. All this waste is not only for the company, its a loss to OURSELVES.

  • I guess that's why Ivan rolled out. His pockets are jammed pack and he didn't wanna be a part of the communist Verizon. It's a shame our union has gotten too weak to do anything about anything. Not sure how much longer I can work here. I hate coming to work anymore and can honestly say so do 99% of the rest of Verizon's work force.

  • there is no need for this kind of waste, and if management was doing it's job to begin with, starting with the 1st and 2nd level managers, that made sure the garages and COs were clean and organized all along, there would be no need for this. But the 1st, 2nd and 3rd levels are all caught up in a shit sandwich and the upper echelon, that has no idea of how the real world operates, and only cares about numbers (not customer service or efficiency) puts all the rules in place. All JOKES!!!

  • con'd... his/her job that made the stupid decision to throw it all out instead of organizing it all. Perfectly fine test sets, cables, shelves of equipment.. all thrown out rather than inventoried and stored. I am a union member but not die hard. But in this case, it's absolute bullshit and the company will have balls if they send us to walk when they obviously have a lot of money to throw out and waste. From an environmental point of view, this makes me SICK.....

  • Hey Barbaramary/"union nonsense"... you have NO idea what you're talking about. The guy who's taking over when Ivan retires is on the world tour... and the orders are that EVERYTHING is being thrown out, repainted, rugs tore up and new ones put down.. all for a one day visit from this guy. He wants the places cleaned up.. but I don't know if it was his directive to throw all this equipment away, valued in the $100,000's, or it was some other upper management moron, scared shitless to lose....

  • There's enough money sitting right there in "trash" to play for my Fios and wireless services until I die....gotta love corporate greed and waste while fat upper management is calling for rate increases and workforce reductions

  • this is news to me.

  • i have seen this first hand same thing happened at my garage. Oh no the new big boss is coming we have to clean and throw everything away. But then the following week they are reordering the same stuff they just threw away.WTF!!!!!!

  • Lol@union nonsense. Sounds to me like a previous poster met Mr. RIF. Verizon would have gutted their workforce years ago and outsourced/contracted 95% of their work given the opportunity. Sad to see all the mgmt scrambling cause someone said something was messy. The waste is no joke, I'd guess we tossed multi-6 figures easily. Half of our tools are "special-use" and often aren't daily-use. Capital trash now... Let's see what the answer is when I can't do my job cause the tools got tossed.

  • looks like frank fack----- was there

  • What general rule does this violate?

  • looks like a fortune to be made dumpster diving and putting it on Ebay....

  • that looks like any Verizon Garage facility. The Laurel Maryland garage used to stack the set top boxes on the loading dock and leave them there for days. I pulled in once

and there was 30 to 40 set top boxes covered in snow.Im sure those are the ones we gave the customers we love so much.

  • No wonder i haven't had channel line ups for new FiOS customers,90&120 ft fiber loops or 12 port vats in the last few months!! It has been fun watching mgmt running around and sweeping the floor with this new "clean, neat, and safe" program. If we do walk in august it will be even more fun to watch mgmt do triple plays and DQ tickets.

  • NOT UNION NONSENSE!!!!! this is happening at all verizon locations. materials. tables, chairs, file cabnets, tools, the list can go on. it does not matter if you are a union member or a manager. this is a total waste of money! so i can understand why the employees would be upset come contract time. and the forman should be upset also! BY THE WAY, WHEN CAN I GET FIOS???? is verizon no longer installing? my neighbors and i would love it. we here great things about the product.

  • hey union nonsense....see what you call being "involuntarily retired" We at verizon call that being fired,by the sound of your comments it was the correct move by vz.Because if you were still here you would be filling all those dumpsters with all the new&used equiptment like we are. Everday for weeks! If you think it's not true drive by any of verizon's garages.EVEN THE ONE WHERE YOU USED TO WORK!

  • Union nonsense? Sure.........

Managers are getting fired for things not being "clean". Not making that up.

Their solution? Throw it all out, millions of dollars worth. No matter if it is new or used, a danger to the environment, or at a loss to the company.

    I think you were fired.

  • Comment removed

  • This is more nonsense from the union employees because their contract is up in August. As a person who was "involuntarily retired" from VZ because of downsizing, I've seen over and over how the unions whine and cry about losing jobs which they rarely do. The downsizing happens in mgmt. because they can cut those jobs with no recourse while VZ continues to pay full benefits for union employees and their families. Unheard of in 2011, so get ready to walk the line, the party's over.

  • @TheBarbaramary You should of had the balls to organize your fellow managers and then you would still have your job.

  • @TheBarbaramary Wow, in an infinite field of stupidity on youtube, leave it to a RIF'd manager who was obviously no good at her job to come up at the top of the idiot stack. You know how I can make that judgement without knowing you? Because SMART managers know that it is the UNION that throughout history has been responsible for even lower level managers' pay being higher.

Your attitude is typical of modern, stupid corporate whores who, even after being ... cont

  • @TheBarbaramary ... cont

unceremoniously terminated by the company is too stupid to see the forest through the trees. Statements like, "unheard of in 2011" show you for what you are: a corporate whore, not high enough on the ladder to make sure you can keep your job, and yet just stupid enough to think it's all the union workers' fault. I'll explain it without too many multi-syllable words so even you can comprehend... The REASON that fully paid benefits are "unheard of" ...cont

  • @TheBarbaramary ... cont

in this day and age is because of people like YOU. People who are so stupid that they will accept ANY employment that appears to give them one shred of tenuous power, without concern for what they sacrifice. Over time, corporate greed naturally gets bigger, and increases that mentality with each new C student fresh out of college that it hires, pushing out more and more of the talented, and wise to the game low level managers, until they're all gone... cont

  • @TheBarbaramary ...cont

and all that's left is you "company man" asskissers. that snowballs, and all of a sudden, this pay-for-your-own-benefits crap becomes the status quo. Well, joke's on you. You're gone, and me and my union brothers and sisters are still here, fighting for what's right. We may very well be walking a picket line come August, but in the end, we will have what's important. Our PRIDE, our DIGNITY, our JOBS, and FULLY PAID HEALTH CARE.

  • @FLASHMAN1973 I'm on "TheBarbaramary"'s side. I say you union people are a bunch of whiney punks! I used to be union and I hated that I busted my ass while a good portion of you half-ass your job, then get pissed because someone else gets something and you don't, so you have to run to your steward and file a grievance. Its so much better at Verizon when you're non-union. Unions don't have a place in 2011. They only hold the valuable worker down.

  • @zeewaker Wow, so much idiocy to refute, and only 500 characters....

"you union people are a bunch of whiney punks"

It's "whiny" and I doubt that a cunt like you would ever say that to my face. another internet tough guy, what a surprise.

"get pissed because someone else gets something and you don't"

The point of an organized workforce is equal pay and equal treatment for equal work.

  • @zeewaker "Its so much better at Verizon when you're non-union"

Really? Unless you're Executive VP or above, (where management begins fully paid healthcare and pensions, or golden parachutes as they're called in that world, name one instance where 1st through 4th level managers have it better than we do. Sure, they make a little more money, but the pensions are gone, they pay for healthcare, and they can be terminated without cause...

Sounds GREAT!!! sign me up... asshole

  • @zeewaker "Unions don't have a place in 2011. They only hold the valuable worker down."

This one, I must admit, is my personal favorite... you're either a complete idiot, or simply lying to yourself. The 40 hour work week, company paid health care, paid vacations, living wages, I could go on and on, ALL a result of organized labor. Do you honestly think that corporations will continue these things out of the kindness of their hearts?

  • wow the place looks real clean thou

  • This was done due to the new President and COO. He is far removed from the reality of what goes on in the field. We have learned to hoard because all we have heard for years is "there is no money in the budget." Shareholders take a good hard look at what this man has done ... and it is only the beginning of his reign.

  • This is only the tip of the iceberg!!!! We are doing the same kind of stuff in our locations as well. We are ONLY cleaning and CLEARING!!!!! 8 hours a day 5 or 6 days a week. They stuff we throw out would make you cry. A real SHAME!!

  • The reason....someone wanted the warehouse to look pretty!

  • mgmt was worried someone would see it and fire them all. its true. ivan needs to see this sham.

  • and these bastards are looking to lay people off every year because they don't have the money... this shows where potential salaries get squandered
