  • Former Obama supporter, former Democrat 25 years of age. I will never again cast my vote for a man & a party that has been hijacked by a bunch of socialists whom don't like America because we're not Europe!

GO REPUBLICANS THROW OUT THE INTOLERANT BIGGOT DEMOCRATS

  • Well, well, well... It looks like Spector has decided to vote for the Employee free choice act afterall. I knew he would see it our way.

  • When the Teamsters first started in California, they cut the tires off the truck my father was driving. There was no "Free Choice" in that and there will not be with Card Check.

  • This speech was before the secret ballot went into the law, I guess. Otherwise, Specter said the thing which is not. The election by secret ballot is specifically in the law and is deleted by the EFCA.

  • You're wrong about that. The Employee Free Choice Act ammends the National Labor Relations Act, it doesn't replace it. EFCA gives workers the free choice between majority sign-up or a secret ballot election. It is called "free choice" because it gives workers the choice in how they form a union. The secret ballot does not get "deleted" by EFCA. Assuming you read the bill, you should read it again.

  • The effect of the bill is to make any attempt at a vote a moot point, from anyone's perspective. Once the cards are signed, there is no ballot.

  • Writing your name on the card IS Casting your ballot. Anyone with half a brain cell realizes that.

  • Anyone with half a brain knows that it is not a secret ballot when you are being threatened if you do not sign the card. This is not democratic or progressive. It is like any other protection racket.

  • Oh then I guess by your standards it is also not democratic once the management gets involved since they try to intimidate their workers into voting no.

  • They are welcome to try. Intimidation is a violation of Federal law and costs thousands of dollars for each violation. You are not going to sell me on this and no one else should be. I am a former union steward and have already seen the results of this in Oregon. Most employers will not come to your HOUSE to intimidate you.

  • My personal experiences say you are wrong JOhnLloydScharf. But that is your opinion. However as a worker I would much rather have the opportunity to vote BEFORE the employer gets involved. Just using dirty word tricks and calling it things like "the forced choice act" isn't going to change that simple fact.

  • I was an AFSME steward.

  • "Where the employer has so poisoned the environment through unfair labor practices" I can't believe a Republican would have the ethics to say something like this. Bravo Mr. Specter!

  • A REPUBLICAN who cares about working peoples right to form unions!?!? It's bizarre, but it's good!!!! If you look up his record on labor issues it's rather good AFL CIO gives him a %62 lifetime rating. I give him a few bonus points for sponoring this bill, and for the asbestos bill.
