I know this sounds crazy, but this video (although good!) only gives you a tiny glimpse into how beautiful the rock specimens are from this mine. The tour is fascinating and well worth taking and the museum is so good you can't possibly appreciate it fully in one trip. Go see it in person!
sweet cheers, how come calcite is useless? also do the minerals also glow with differing degrees of florescence and in differing shades, can you distinguish any from the color of their glows or with 89 are their just too many to do this? I would imagine that maybe I have answered my own question. Ps did Earl sneeze on his hand before lifting that zinc stone to the camera? lol just kidding, a bit of levity never hurt anyone. Cheers again peace
how available are these minerals for someone who's thinking of putting them as a garden feature?
I saw avatar, and i thought it would be absolutely amazing to create a glowing garden similar to the forests in the movie...
I was thinking of just using a variety of coloured leds in plants, etc, but i found out just recently that UV light actually reveals the fluorescence of certain rocks! This would look simply amazing in a pond or something.
@dannyboyinxs, go onto the website of the Franklin Mineral Museum or the Sterling Hill Mining Museum; they sell these minerals and the UV lights you need to view the rocks.

So how hard would it be to buy these minerals?

I was there a few months ago. It really was interesting, both in terms of the geology and seeing how the mine used to work.
