  • Thats actually pretty beautiful

  • Why thank you : -)

  • How to play this with GCEA ?

  • Awesome, but what chords are you using?

  • 8 Dislike dont have a ukulele

  • I love it, wish I could do it!

  • It's quite a stretch to call this a strum. More like a fingerpicking riff

  • Good tutorial. You've made simple sense of a strum that seemed dauntingly complex until I saw this video.

  • the strummed version is amazing. absolutely love it. loving all your lessons. thanks so much for making them and putting them up. it is really generous of you. they are wonderful.

  • This is pretty great! Sounds really cool

  • You are surely Carly Simon's daughter. Also pretty cool. :-)

  • i love your similes :)

  • WHAT?!?!?!? So awesome! 0.o

  • 'Let's start really slow and see what happens" is definitely what she said.

  • So on the pull-off, are you plucking with your nails or the skin of your fingers?

  • This is amazing, I can't wait until I buy my Ukulele today and I can start learning this beautiful instrument. You are a great teacher, thank you.

  • could you say a bit more about what chords you're starting with on the left hand? at what point do you pull off the strings in relation to the picking on the right hand?

also: thank you so much for your videos. they give a wonderful picture of what happens when you work at it while keeping the goal of your own imaginative creations!

  • i love your voice and your uke playing too

  • Thanks so much for these videos :) They make learning the uke so fun!

  • "Mimi time" sounds fun. Go for it !

  • When you pull off a string is it an open string, or a string that's part of a chord?

  • waiting for the n-th best strum! haha!

  • he say..".There is no right way - only your way. Evolve your own style.."

I say..."put that guy in your favorite"

  • Hey, this has been the video or yours which has given me the most trouble, but I think I am finally getting it. So cool! Anyway, I was wondering if you could explain what the strum pattern you use at the end is. It looks sorta like PSPS with the plucks alternating between the top 2 strings, is that right?

  • it's amazing...)

  • It is so sweet and charming, perfectly described as waster running downstream. I was there, watching the stream in my heart. Thank you for sharing, I can't wait to learn this :) Ps. What chords are you playing?

  • THATS REALLY COOOL.

sounds like something by Lemon Jelly

  • U use a A D F# B tuning?

    Lol awesome.

  • Strum? Reminds me a bit of Philip Glass. I like it.

  • What are the notes in this song?

  • That I believe just might be the number one strum on a uke!

  • just amazing. :)

  • Cheers!

  • Enjoy your videos Coveywood - this one gives you a kind of claw-hammer sound. But you certainly use an unusual tuning on your uke.

    Thanks\

  • you are the greatest.

and you got me subscribed :'D.

  • Finding the pull offs really hard

  • You'll get there - like patting your head and rubbing your tum !

  • Haha Cheers COVEYWOOD, I managed to get it about 10 mins after making that post, always post too soon!

  • man ive been playing the ukulele for about 2 weeks and i would love to learn to strum like that

  • ive pretty much got it now

    WOOOOOOOOOO

  • In your other vids your uke is tuned different- is it still here?

Also I'm new to this and I was wondering if it's wrong if when I'm strumming normally (not super pretty like this) I use my thunb on the ups and my other fingers on the downs- no one else seems to do this that I can tell (please don't call me stupid I really don't know).

  • There is no right way - only your way. Evolve your own style, make something original and suprise everyone :-)

  • One to try on a guitar as well. Great sound.

  • Comment removed

  • Beautiful. Consider that one officially stolen. 'cept for that 0222 chord(you can keep that one).

  • your fingers look like dancers

  • this is the number one strum for the uke in my opinion

  • sweet but what songs fit this strum pse

  • cute indeed :D

  • Thats a clever little tune. how long did it take you to be able to do it so fast? I'm finding it hard to get the speed at the moment.

    Thanks for the video!

  • jeeeeeez thats so pretty ^^

  • your are amazzing

with an extra z for zazzy

  • he tunes a step higher

  • Ahh, I don't know how to get that same effect with the strumming. How are you strumming?

  • watch to the end - I do it lowly for you.

  • I mean slowly !

  • ya it isn't GCEA

  • It's a step higher, watch his other videos.

  • this is a pick not a strum you bastard! Just kidding, you're pretty badass. Can I get some more of these strums though man, I already learned you're 1 2 and 3 pretty damn good and they impress homie so more would be apreciated

    tanks

    xiexie (谢谢)

  • i love simplicity...

  • Hello Piers, Could you do a YouTube quicky on ukulele tuning? I am a uke beginner of sorts. You rock, dude! Love your strawdio, too. Do you have a strawlele? Do you have a strawlamp? Do you have a strawputer? Do you have a strawstamp? Love your creativity -- a lot. Aloha..........SQB
  • Try jaaaaaaa on YouTube for more ukulele fun.

    I love your strums, man.

Thanks for teaching me some more.

    Aloha.........SQB

  • Aaaaa, the lovely jaaaaaaa. She's on my Favourites.

  • would yu be able to post the fingering more closely,

ya do it a bit fast to see which string to pull an when.

  • You've got an interesting sound old man. I'll keep listening.

  • Thanks young dude.

  • Ah that is hard.

    GOOD JOB!

  • You're a great teacher, man! But I'll need some time to get into that, though ;)

  • also, is that a soprano uke?

  • No, its not a soprano but I tune a tone higher than is normal (ADF#B). Sounds better to me and its the only way I've ever known.

  • much respect due to you my friend.

  • Aloha Piers, you're awesome so glad i found u.

tell me, can i use a soprano and use your tune? i'm a little brown gal from hawai'i picking up the uke once again since childhood. just a newbie for now. mahalo 4 sharing on youtube. luv u

  • Soprano is fine, brown skin girl. How little ?

  • Thanks for your reply. As to how little you ask? Surely you've heard the Hawai'ian ukulele song, "Little Brown Gal"? As for me, I'm a full grown brown gal, in a little grass skirt in Hawai'i.

  • The skirt, how little ?

  • ahaha thats just funny, great video by the way thx !

  • Friend, ill be quite honest with you here, you are quite possibly the best uke player ive heard thus far, I just got my uke today, (a santini) and I wonder if its possible to be able to play that right off the bat, on the first day of learning?

  • well im sure youve found your answer by now but my advice is that anything take experience. you have to get your body and muscles used to doing anything before you can do it effortlessly, mindlessly, in your sleep.

  • Love all about it so much - Right now this is on my daily practicing-routine. Thank you so very much

  • sounds so good, i like the water description =D

  • Awesome!

  • Yay !

  • I really have to say, I've played guitar and piano all my life, but I'm going to have to go out and pick up a Uk. I subscribed to you, I think my daughter might find you quite pleasant, you sound as friendly as this tune. Very nice, indeed!

  • The Uke inspires a friendly disposition. Why is that ! I'm mean when I play banjo. Good luck with your Uke adventure.

  • second

  • wqay cool thank you

  • how is the tunning of your ukulele? kus it doesnt sound ryt on myne*wen da uke iz tune ryt.

  • ADF#B is what I use. If that don't sound right it may be your "Concert" pitch is not the same as here in the UK. Weird eh ?! Wiki has a long page on that stuff.

  • is your tuning the same for all ur strums? the ADF#B?

  • Yes, but in the northern hemipshere it revolves clockwise when it goes down the sinkhole, Mr Kiwi.

  • Cool - Don't ask me why but I visualise a fish swimming up a stream when I hear this

  • your videos make me want to get myself a ukelele and start playing for the rest of my life.

if i hadn't just bought a regular six-string guitar i'd start now...i figure i should take things one instrument at a time.

  • i listend to this the other couple that coveywood had i bought one online for $30.

i can allmost(by allmost i mean sorta, kinda, not really) play this song but its not going to be on youtube for a wile cus'...i suck at uke but learnin'.

  • last was a response to JorgeZoltan :)

  • this is great man! i like all your music vids!

i'm actually thinking of buying an ukelele;) since i've got a guitar already, it shouldn't be hard :)

  • this is great! and funny do play!

i try to become as fast as you are!

  • faster faster !! !

  • i can do that now :)

  • can you video response ?

  • it doesnt really sound the same cause we have different ukes but i know how to do it slow to fast
