Always felt this ending transitioned so much better into the new generation than macross into masters. Believe robotech love live alive is supposed to pick up here?? Hope it doesnt suck
I love the encounter between Zor and all of the triumviroids. They do manage to hit him with concentrated fire, given direct orders. But by this point, their combat effectiveness is so low that a single hovertank wipes through them while they're standing there.
@doop408 This is the middle act. Having "won," humanity nonetheless faces certain doom at the hands of the Invid, precisely because so much has been lost defeating the Robotech Masters; it has to be this way to bring the story together.
you dont see what happens between the sagas unless u read the books. U miss the Zentraedi uprisings on earth, the rise of the southern cross, the launch of the SDF-3 and the battles with the invid Regent/King/Father in space, as well as the return of Col Wolf, the voyage of Dana and the 15th, and the true ending of the series with the origin of Zor, How the invid came to gain the flower and how the flower of life originally came from earth but was given to the invid by Haydon.
@CoachDaKingMRP That stuff about the Flower and Haydon is an embellishment that goes beyond what the Robotech timeline needs/supports. The interwar periods, in contrast, aren't - and the missing time between the final battle of the Second Robotech War and the arrival of the Invid is quite worthwhile.
@VictorErol Oh believe me I know, I've read all of the Robotech Novels: The Macross Saga, The Malcontent Uprisings, The Robotech Masters Saga, The Masters Gambit, The Sentinels, The New Generation and The End of the Circle.... I enjoyed them all immensely as a child, but this was in the early 90s tho
i love the fact that oer 20 years later people still r into this show......if u want bacc ground info on robotech continuity you should read the novels, by jack mckinney. In order they r: The Macross Saga; The Malcontent Uprisings; The Sentinels; The Masters Gambit; The Southern Cross; Before the Storm; The NEw Generation, and The End of the Circle.......the shows really have no continuity with each other being made from three totally different series....
This episode explains Zor's final sacrifice to destroy the Robotech Masters. In doing that, the flower of life is released. The Invid are coming and the Southern Cross is no more. Where is the SDF-3? Will the RDF come back and protect the earth? Scott Bernard will find out. The New Generation is next!!
I like at the end how everyone (15 Squad and the survivors of the Robotech Masters flagship are just staring blankly wondering "oh shit, now we're ALL doomed when the Invid arrive!"
@DukeofColumbia To an extent, this was dictated by the way that the source material ends (i.e. in the Japanese storyline, the proliferation of the flowers is a good rather than bad thing, and everyone is indeed astonished). But it also fits well with the Robotech storyline. I mean, they know full well that Zor failed and is nonetheless dead, that the Invid will come and they've no chance of stopping them, and that the whole war was, essentially, for no purpose.
Oh, and, sorry: Commander Leonard was as militarily inept as he was xenophobic and bigoted; incorrectly classifying bioroid pilots as a race of unthinking protoplasmic creatures, and always wanted to kill, kill, kill them, even when intelligence methods like those the Masters emplyed to impant Xor into the 15th would've worked best.
Talk about being ahead of your time: ALL three sagas of the epic had interracial/interspecies relationships; Max/Miriya & Roy/Claudia; Dana/Xor & Bowie/Musica, and Scott/Marlene. Talk about progressive and forward thinking, especially for a cartoon since they weren't even doing this in live action T.V. or shows very often in the far-right fascist Reagan era of the 1980's.
@daTruChosen not only that . . . but all 3 sagas actually showed characters getting killed in battle. Emerson's death was sad because he was trying to protect his ward Bowie. And while people (rightly or wrongly) bash Commander Leonard, he died at his post.
@DukeofColumbia True indeed. I'd always LMAO at the G.I. Joe cartoons because, no matter where a fighter jet was hit or with what kind of artillery, a parachute always managed, somehow, to be deployed. In Robotech, they'd show people melted away by radiation, shot at close range, and blown up in a single ep. I was hooked on this shit, dude!
Ever since I watched the few episodes of the Sentinels I always felt sorry for Leonard as things started to fall apart. Too inadequately equipped to do the job.
Dana goes to Tirol (the Master's homeworld) to find her parents and takes the survivors of the clones with her... most of the 15th goes with her except for Nova and Louie, who joins with Bowie's father, in the Shadow Chronicals. The Majority of the Zentraeti went with th SDF3 and the Expeditionary force, since Breetai went along... the few that stayed on earth had died since then or else were finished by the Invid... although a few did survive all that...
@DragonsHonor99 I used to believe this too, before I found out that Southern Cross was heavily re-written to fit awkwardly between Macross and Mospeada, two separate shows which have NOTHING to do with Southern Cross.
There is no Tirol, SDF-3, or Robotech Masters (they're called the Zor in the original show, btw).
another thing i find odd is... you don't really see or hear that any of those people fighting for earth is zentrandi... well beside Dana being half... but also in the new generation you don't see any zentradies nor robotech masters... odd...
@fiskefyren i think dana apparantly escapes earth and gets reunited with his parents coz Bowie's dad hyperfolds back to earth and ends up rescuing them...somewhere along those lines if i remember the story line correctly.
@lacobra27 I think Commander Wolff comes back to earth in a space fold capable ship under orders from Admiral Hunter and Dana, the 15th squad and the surviving clones capture it and head towards Tirol where Admiral Hunter and the REF are. Been awhile but I do know it was Commander Wolff's ship that she took to escape earth.
hmm... the robotech masters sure seem like a shitty race... i liked the zentrandies a lot more! and ofc the invids! but even though i seriously dislike humanity they still better than the shitty robotech masters!
@fiskefyren Ok, are you sitting down? The reason for all these inconsistencies is this: Robotech is a made-up storyline combining 3 different shows that have NOTHING to do with each other. That's why there's no Zentradi, no Veritch fighter planes, and no SDF-1 in Southern Cross. In the original (real) version of this show, Dana is not half Zentradi, Zor was always a human pilot who was just abducted by the aliens, and the flowers have nothing to do with the Invid.
@demoskunk Carl Macek couldn't bring Macross to U.S. television because it was only 36 episodes long. Back then a show in syndication needed 65 episodes. So, he added 2 other shows and tried to tie them all together into one new storyline. Southern Cross, being the middle show, required the most editting to fit between Macross and Mospeada. That's why there are so many holes in it. I still love it, though, but I'm sure the original is much better.
@superzilla784 I'm assuming MF means Macross Frontier. Sure, it could show Hikaru (not Rick, btw) battling Zentradi, because it's a Macross show. But, Macross sequels have nothing to do with Robotech or Southern Cross, obviously.
Besides, I wouldn't say that Macross 7, with its retarded, guitar controlled Valkyries and speakers in SPACE (!) really exists in the same universe as the other Macross titles. It's more like a silly comedy than a real Macross show.
16:57 Bewitched? Wos what an advnaced culture, to have come so far and still maintian such foolish notions... then again I'm not on to talk since I just the neighbors squerrals are out to get me and my cheerios.
Hey there, if you are aware of the series, then you know it is not the Earth. Carl Macek used the continuing storyline macross/masters/generation to conform with North American broadcast series syndication guidelines. The masters are actually based on another planet the humans were trying to colonize while the masters were trying to reclaim it. That planet belonged to the masters originally.
@FeedbackMonitor Where can I find a copy of the original Super Dimensional Cavalry Southern Cross?
Also, back when I was re-watching this show on VHS, I always found it odd that the 15th would recruit an enemy pilot and trust him with his own Hovertank! Then I noticed that in Zor's flashbacks, he was always in a human uniform. That's when I realized he was a human pilot all along and that the aliens abducted him to use as a spy! He's NOT the first Robotech Master. There IS no "Robotech"!
yea but he had breast balls buddy he dies on hes place he do not abandoned the ship like Kyron did and besides nobody could tell you that the masters will leave the planet once thy get the protoculture matrix anyway
What do you mean Khyron abandoned ship? I thought Khyron and Azonia ram the SDF-1and SDF-2 with what's left of his ship in the last big battle. From what I remember He and Azonia were holding hands on the bridge when they hit the SDF-1.
no I was talking about when Breetai asked kyron to join forces against dolza and he refuse to fight because they were too many(dolza's army) and then he try to escape , that was on episode 27 the force of arms and even Azonia decided to stay and fight
Always felt this ending transitioned so much better into the new generation than macross into masters. Believe robotech love live alive is supposed to pick up here?? Hope it doesnt suck
