While I'm not interested in hijacking other people's wifi, I am wondering if this would amplify 3G signal at all. I live in a remote area and I have a spare dish that I would like to re-use when I switch to a non-satellite ISP. The only other thing available to me is a 3g wireless service. Will this work for amplifying 3g signal if I point it in the general direction of the closest tower?
having Just one high gain antennas is Usless for long range connectiion without a second high gain antenna on the other side so basically because you have a powerfull high gain antenna does not mean you will be able to pickup wifis from miles away unless you have another high gain antennas on the other side having just one high gain antenna it might pickup lots of wifis but connecting to most of them is impossible signal will be to weak!!!
Is this correct? You inserted a flex antenna in the middle of a dish connected via coax cable to another flex antenna and it boosted your signal? What was the increase in signal strength? Have free access 1 mile away wondering if it will pick it up?
@lrak13 for me someone i don't know connects to my network i use Cain & able to get there passwords and auth codes for there software than i delete any files i can that's what i mean
i thought... if its an Antenna and receives the signal, it points away from dish. & if its a Aerial and creates the signal, it points towards the dish.
What happened to mentioning that the antenna needs to be at the focal point of the dish? Sorry but more needs to be said on this issue than just drill a hole in a dish antenna! :(
@ELECTRONICSGURU60 Depends how long the antenna is ! if it extends to the focal point then it would be a easy mod. thanks for bringing up focal point tho !
RP-SMA connectors are used for 50 ohm wifi cables.. for Kenfo0, nothing on this video is NOT illegal, he just use satellite dish to focus wifi signal on little antenna !!! 32db gain is hard to get on this way but never mind, he have 5 signal now, and u have to admit 5 is better than 0 :)
what you describe is illegal. further, I want you to explain, precisely, how you come up with "32dB gain".Lastly, even if something like this would work, one would gain maximum signal by altering the dish output cable to connect to the antenna input of the AP. I find it difficult to believe what you did would have any meaningful effect. Antennae are designed to work w/in a specific frequency range. I will look into satellite transmission freqs...few are even close to the narrow 802.11x bands.
Why do you claim a 32dBi gain? I truly doubt this antenna offers any noticeable gain, it is quite clear to me you have no experience with IEEE 802.11 standards.
if the acess poin is open way to be ilegal i take free internet like theat is no ilegal mi router is have a security 128 bit so cant every bady take internet fro mee 1 freend has my passworld an is connected !
Acually it would be better if the antenna was connected to an 90* adapter and point up. This would aid the polorization of the signal and in turn give you faster upload. But there are better ways to do this.
try putting the reciever, rather than the antenna at the focal point ,google search the equation on how to find the focal point of a parabola, that will give u the exact distance u need to be off the centre of the dish,,,,try that and see how u go...:-)
even if itried this, even look at his wifi points he discovered, it's low. -_____-. i bet you guys it took him a long ass time just to upload this video, for christ's sake . GET REAL INTERNET

it is NOT legal to do this in the US. Use of a computer system WITHOUT THE PERMISSION of the owner is a felony. Be sure to get permission from the people you are 'borrowing' internet from. If they catch you, you can get in trouble - serious trouble.
@krankcrazy ...and if their front door is unlocked you can walk in and take what you want too, right? People should secure their access points but just because you CAN access it, it does not mean you have PERMISSION to access it.
For? In the USA, it is legal to do this. As long as you don't steal from a "Private Access Point" (which in volves hacking to receive the signal). You know, the access points with a password. So call the FCC?
I live about 2 miles from the main hwy out in the country, and about 4 to 5 miles from the city, what kind of range can I expect with this type setup?
NOTE: If you need further help. Please feel free to PM (Private Message) me. I can reccommend you video to get more of an idea how to do it your self or, if you looking for a quick & great alternative. I can reccommend other things...
The antenna still needs a small reflector base at the prime focus. And since its an offset focus, the dish needs to be pointed a lot further up or down depending on antenna to get the right entry point.
@esnap i thought... if its an Antenna and receives the signal, it points away from dish. & if its a Aerial and creates the signal, it points towards the dish.
@jayandersons if the arm isnt the focal point try moving it a bit if that is an option,
its an old dish and looks rather flat, the focal point should be futher away, and dont have the antenna pointing with the parobolic dish, put it on its side so its pointing up that way the wifi signals hit the dish suface and bounce back at 90degs it will be hitting the antenna normaly and signal strength should be more.
@CountDeSade00 No, I know what you're talking about -- but the concept is the same. If it's not locked -- take it, it's yours. Think about it. While that IS the way I feel about my open wireless, many people may just not be aware it's open.

Hey man just remember when your surfing around on an open network like that
hackers can sniff EVERY SINGLE THING YOU DO.
Many people keep an open access point basically to fish for people looking for a free ride.
You wouldn't believe how much information passes through...
Hope its worth saving the 25-30 bucks when all your personal information is exploited.

While this might work to some degree, I doubt the repeatability of being able to aim it at the same target twice.
This is nothing more than adding a Ground Plane.

the antenna is NOT mounted at the focal point of the dish so it is NOT working as a offset parabola dish.
It is merely an antenna with a random reflector behind it that may be killing as many signals as it is picking up
ELECTRONICSGURU60 1 year ago 18
yes... This is just plain reflector. I use Coca-Cola PET reflector for WiFi and Bluetooth.
0903390901 1 year ago
@ELECTRONICSGURU60 it is not sending signals it is receiving them
soo when the dish collects them it increases the wifi reception

use a tin can with a usb adapter on your dish is more effective than a lmb on the dish. i tried it and the tin can even works good without the dish.

This size dish on its own is about 20dB. If you added a feed, you could get 32dB like the description says.

there is many variables.
1) If you live near an airport
2) How good is you satellite dish
3) How good the antenna
4) Where you point the dish
5) ect.

i am searhing for that but without the proper name. it's not only difficult but i found the wrong end. or did you mod that yourself?
zelgadiss 3 years ago
If you want to make that thing a 1000x better, just attach the antenna to the actual arm of the dish. That is where the focal point is.

fallbrookdave 2 years ago 3
hello fallbrookdave,
i believe the offset is negated by the antenna being placed in the direct centre of the dish in this particular case.
i couldnt be bothered drilling the centre of my 4 ft dish so mine is still indeed offset.
