I got WNV in june 2008, suffered multiple seizures, mult organ failure, a month long coma, temp paralysis, temp amnesia, blood clots, etc. I now have still to this day have bad short term memory disorder, seizures, blood clots, horrible headaches, horrible dizzy spells, chronic body pain, chronic fatigue, sleep 12 hours a day, and am taking like 20 meds a day, wnv needs to be further researched in our country for how to deal with it, many people i have found to have the same lasting effects!

I used DEET and still got bitten. Luckily my brother brought some incognito spray back with him from Europe and I've not had a single bite. The DEET also melted my sunglasses so I dread what it did to my skin.

You cant fully protect yourself from mosquitoes. And reducing your chances of being bitten is not good enough, because... YOU CAN STILL BE BITTEN! I sprayed myself with DEET, I live on the 23rd floor, I wear light colored clothing... There are window nets on my windows, and no holes in the walls. And ya know what? A mosquito still bit me in the face at night when I was asleep. And then in my hand... Then the leg. These pests always find a way.

LOL, WNV can be deadly, but it isn't something to worry about. Maybe if you're 50 like they said. Compared to HIV, Ebola or some other virus out of a horror movie, West Nile virus isn't so bad But it is very widespread, and any disease that kills people is a serious and significant public health threat, particularly in the United States where we don't face a bewildering array of deadly infectious diseases.
