I was wondering about the validity of the Aikido 'Crystal Farm School'. Apparently it is desirable to 'hustle, con, cajole, parent, expose, funnel, integrate, incite self-discipline' your child. Sounds like good 'ol American values to me, where to sign up? I hear it is 'Totally exhausting. It makes doing eight hours digging ditches seem like a vacation' but you can 'meliorate' this (although no need to learn spelling). Great, sounds like a FEMA camp, but thats what teachers/kids need.

I guess if you have done the same technique with somebody over 20,000 times you learn to cut out the physical stuff and move together as if connected by some sort of intuition or Ki perhaps. Thats why there is alwys skepticism with this stuff because it wouldn't work in the street but that doesnt mean Aikido itself wouldnt work. This demonstration is just a higher level of Aikido its based on 'feeling' movement IMHO.

im an aikidoka and i can say this is 1 of the most problematic philosofical problem: real ki power or simply self-suggestion?personally as an aikidoka i believe that Osensei got some unique power,and i can say that the power of Ki is true,really,really true

@brownboy252 i like to think of it as mind power. whether i visualize "ki" doing its thing or instead make sure my angles, timing and bio-mechanics are correct, the result is identical: the technique works without effort and appears magical. same is true with my teachers (with much more powerful results) regardless of their take on ki. inversely, i can believe in my ki all i want, but if my technique is flawed, there is no power. be it an "energy" or not, ki is an extremely useful GUI.

I think Aikido is the Japanese equvalent of Tai Chi.

tai chi... i think no. it's more similar to Bagua Zhang. All 2 methods use circular- spiral moviments.

many people think tai chi is a way to meditate...in part this is true, but

maybe the most of them never tried to fight with a tai chi master as i used to do...strenth or speed are not a good choice for hit him in a fight ...maybe a loaded gun at 20 meters of distance is more usefull...

I like when someone says "We are experts and kicked the ass of someone who knows Aikido" However they never have a video and you know anyone who wants to brag has a youtube video. But yes Aikido has been basterdized just like any other art. Even those close to O Sensi have changed the way things should go.

These kind of technics we use to do in Shin shin toitso aikido(ki aikido)...don't think that ki is an energy that move your body(like in the cartoon). Ki is "intention" and O'Sensei naturally understand the Uke's one; so he moved with the right rhythm in right place, this place is a place where the attack "can't happen"..this is the reason that most of people say that Ki Aikido is softly and "fake" couse they don't understand that something can happen also without touching Uke's body.

not really, the aikidoka I train with would probably block it and break your ankle. In aikido a good practioner only moves when an attack is sincere, because in order for most of the techniques to work you need a comitted attack and then you have to either intercept it when immediately as its being delivered or just before it makes contact so it has the most momentum aiding your technique. If someone faked the attack it would be quite obvious to a good aikidoka and they wouldn't bother with it

In my Gym in Venezuela, we invited to Aikido Students that train other days in the same Tatami, they sucked, our orange Judo-Jiujitsu belt, kicked their asses, Aikido is just an Art, their better excuse to dont fight in UFC is the peace, if not, they would be kicked in front of all the world.
