  • 3:20, does safin get the point for that? or not because of his racquet touching the net?

  • @verdugorobs Don't think so; I might be wrong but I think the racket left his hand when

he hit the ball (and the racket has to be in your hand and not "thrown").

  • These 2 players could have given a lot of competion to Federer between 2004 and 2007 for the N°1 but they both lacked the profesionalism and determination Roger had.

  • poetry

  • 2 amazing players with amazing backhands

  • epic matchup!

  • 3:58 the ball bounce only once and then his racquet hit the net...... i thought the rule was that if any part of your body, clothing, accesories hits the net you lose automaticly the point, because the ball still didnt bounce twice, so it was on play. When my dampener came off my racquet and flew to my opponent court while the ball was in play; my opponent claim the point. When i confirm it with the officials thye agreed with him. Similar case?

  • These guys are amazing players just look at the shot makin i wished they played each other morr cuz when their on almost no one can beat them to bad nalbandian hasnt put it together for a major title

  • safin is excellent, and those ball girls are ridiculously delectable.

  • both are my favourite players with Agassi and Davydenko

  • Their backhands are so awesome... but Safin's strokes (both of them!) are killer-strong!

  • @asdfuogh but still, safin should have won this match at 6-5 serving for the match in the 3rd. was up 30-0

  • My two favorite 2handed-backhands, amazing.

  • Awesome match!

  • @niclassj This was one of the worst matches I've ever seen between two top players, the quality certainly wasn't "awesome".

  • @MaratSafinVideos ur just saying that coz safin lost lol

  • @Sen1Sky You obviously didn't watch the match. You're probably about 10 judging by your spelling.

  • @Sen1Sky Yeah he rarely gives a Safin opponent credit.

  • i think his size overwhelms or even intimidates people.

  • @JUSfr34k safin's size... or nalbandian...'s belly? hahahhahaa

  • never really knew about Nalbandian.

    He's a beast.

  • king david lives!!! xD

  • I think Nalbandian and Safin are both very talented players and there really isn't much to choose between them.

Seems as if Nalbandian has given Federer more problems than Safin, however. Although post masters 2003, Federer has lost a total of 4 times to both, while beating both a combined total of about 18 times.

On a side note, Nalbandian has said that he finds Safin the most difficult opponent to play against (he does have a 3-6 record against him)

  • @Ryan81M Put simply, Marat is a bigger, stronger version of David.

  • What happened to safin' s forehand ? in fact he is hitting big forehands here.

  • you see, escapedconvict....nalbandian is better.

  • 0:44 ....wow! Safin got more juice on his strokes !

  • safins BH DTL/CC are obviously better than nalbandians.

  • Mmmh no, Safin's BH DTL/CC aren't obviously better than Nalbandians, maybe for you but for the majority of the rest of the people (including Federer and Nadal) Nalbandians are not only better than Safins but also better than the rest of the pros in the ATP tour.

  • just my opinion, don't get too pissy at the fact that safin won 2 slams and david has 0.

Just goes to show how cruddy nalbandians game is if he does have the best BH on tour.

  • lol I'm not pissed, you on the other hand do sound like that.

And the reason Nalbandian doesn't have any grand slam ('till now) is:

    A) his serve: with a serve like Safins he would have won some majors.

and B) His lack of dedication and physical preparation for a profesional tennis player.

I think the fact that he is a perennial top ten having a body of a 40 year old with a beer tummy speaks volume of his game.

  • nalbandian is the best player in the world, but the beer, the womans, the food... jajaj

but yes, in form is better than roger, rafa, djokovich, murray, etc

  • Safin's BH was good enough to take down a pime vintage 2005 Federer (do not even compare 2005 Fed to 2007 Fed where Nalbandian played him) I mean, 2005 Fed was the best Federer of all time, only 2006 can come close... Safin wins...

  • Nalbandian beat Federer in the Masters Cup final of 2005 so you may wanna get your facts straight, besides Nalbandian has beaten Roger 8 times while Safin has only beaten him twice.

  • Federer had an injured ankle in that match....

  • And yet he beat the crap out of everyone except Nalbandian.

  • i don't think fed 05 was the best fed of all time, his backhand in 05 was still shakey. 07 was prime fed.

  • What do you think about 2006 Federer? That is a bit better than 2005 or 2007.

  • @LDis1

    yeah, 06-07 fed for sure

however, i honestly believe current fed is even more incredible, more lax, and every shot has pretty much been mastered by now, it's just a matter of will.

  • Yeah, he has every shot in the book by now, but his speed and footwork have slowed down a little bit.

2010 could be a fun year if Nalbandian gets going, He seems to like playing vs Federer.

  • 06 was Fed at his very best. You will not see better.

  • 06 fed was not his very best, backhand was not refined.

  • Disagree. BH was superb. If you watch the Masters Cup final vs Blake or against Nadal in the semis or at Wimby or any number of tournaments, you will see that it was powerful and precise.

That is why he had such a dominant year in 2006. Everything was working perfectly, from his game to his mental strength.

  • @gabe228 but everything else was, compared to todays federer.

  • NOU

  • The best 2handed backhands ever :)

  • @Matyaz84 ur forgetting agassi and djokovic.

  • @Matyaz84 after agassi's of course

  • @tennisboi nono!!!! nalbandian´s two handed backhand is the best ever!!! in form david is the best player in tennis history (but he likes food, womens, alcohol...) jajaja

  • @tennisboi i hope that was a joke, not to mention Agassi's backhand is the ugliest backhand of life.Safin had both substance and style.

  • @Sen1Sky and now i hope you are joking- no even Tennis magazine ranked his bh as the best of the open era! but you must know more than them... safin was not mentioned once in the article, not even for his style- shock. (oh btw they asked the top tennis pros and retired players and commentators their opinion and then compiled the results)... sen1sky- the phrase 'eat it' is in order.

  • @tennisboi that's just one magazine, im sure if atp made a list safin would be near the top

  • @Sen1Sky agassi's backhand was a short stroke meant to take the ball early only. short, compact swing meant to absorb pace of the ball and redirect.. it wasnt a thing of beauty but it made him hundreds of millions

  • @cj397 very true but he ran alot around his backhand, but ya i still agree with you

  • These groundstrokes are quite amazing. Its a shame that both players are now pale shadows of their former selves especially Safin

  • This match was horrible, from a Safin fans perspective. He was a shadow of the man who hammered Nalbandian in the 2004 final.

Plus, Grilloti let Nalbandian challenge a ball he shouldn't have been allowed near the end and it screwed Marat over big style.

  • There was nothing wrong with allowing Nalbandian challenge that call, I remember the match. It was a Safin serve that was out a Nalbandian missed the return because of that serve so I don't see how that call shouldn't have been allowed to challenge.

  • There is a rule, you can't challenge after you hit the ball, he missed, so he challenged. Simple.

Safin is shit post 2005 due to injury and Nalbandian still struggled to beat him.

  • You're wrong, there isn't such rule, 'cause if there was Nalbandian wouldn't have been allowed to challenge, simple as that. Besides think about it: A guy hits a 130 MPH serve that is out, you can barely touch the ball but the shot goes obviously out, why wouldn't you be allowed to challenge that call?

And Nalbandian had no trouble beating Safin in striaght sets in the davis cup final later that year.

  • I doubt you even watched the match, you have no idea what you're talking about.

Yes, and so he should have, if you think Safin is the same player as 2005 and prior then you're even more deluded than I already thought.

  • I watched the game, I even remember that Safin had match point serving at what should have been 40-30 but Grillioti fucked up and said 30-15 but it doesn't matter 'cause Safin didn't win any more points in that game.

And I didn't say anything about Safin's level of prior or after 2005.

  • two of my favorite players on tour

  • the best safin, but nalballdian was magnific that match

  • 3:33 WOW!!!

  • The best groundstrokes in the tour. Beauty shots.

  • The best twi handed backhands of the tour.

  • i'm sorry, but Gasquet is crap. He has nice strokes, but he'll never amount to anything. The truth hurts.

  • talent is an important part of success, but not all of it. some people think currently ranked 24 Gasquet is actually got more talented than federer. I would say will and mental mean more to a champion

  • i agree... thats why even though gasquet may be more talented than fed.. fed just has the will and mental power that most players lack... but when it comes down to working hard... nobody works harder for a point than nadal or hewitt

  • dude tell me when u see gasquet was more talented then fed? gasquet is just a overrated kid

  • search Gasquet highlight on youtube, or if you always watch he play. you can see he hits a lot of AMAZING shots, but he is the one who ALWAYS lost in those matches. sometime he doesnt know what the hell himself is doing. I think(just my opinion) needs is get mentally though. Considering some guys won their first grand slam when they were 17, Fed is kinda late when he won his 1st grand slam(almost 21). so, Fed must had a hard time before that, a genius without any achievement.

  • Woah! Be cool, maccoke.

Look, I agree with you on Fed being real talented (big Fed fan here), but you have to admit than Marat and David are immensely talented individuals, also.

It's a shame both of those players have underachieved in their respective careers.

  • Hmm.. Safin has won 2 grand slams, was n°1 ranked... He didn't waste so much his carreer. Maybe Nalbandian more, but it's more because of his physical (which is very very bad when you watch now Nadal, Monfils or Djokovic). If he would have improve it he definitively could have won a slam.

  • ....Sampras?

  • duh...erm what ? your people...oh my...now i see you're really drunk...

  • or i have another version...you're just drunk...so go fall asleep for 6-7 hours and when you're done, we'll maybe have some debates about who's right and who's wrong...now please leave me be...i dont want to waste my time on drunk whore who's IQ is even lower then YETI's...

  • awesome tennis too bad safin lost hes so talented

  • thaTS fuuny, he doesnt have 1% of nal bandians talnt

  • yeah ? ...and thats why Safin won 2 Grand Slams and outplayed Sampras himself on USOpen 2000 when Nalbandian won none of Grand Slams ? ...how about that dickhead ?!

  • ur a coq smokin fg, probably russian grbage. also no 0 abou ttennis fukof

  • ...that is not an argument...i see where you're coming from you cant even type correctly...i understood like 10 percents of all that what you've typed...i advice you to buy some dictionary because you really need one...

  • apologies in regards to my inacuurate typing, my people who take care of this r away this week. enjoy.

  • big bang tennis...2 of the hardest hitters in tennis ...

  • Riiiiiiiiiight ^^

  • i miss seeing nalbandian playing in the league of the top 3 guys in tennis. my favorite is nadal but when i saw how he beat the top 3 in madrid last year, i added him in my radar. he's brilliant. too bad i seldom see him in championships. good work at davis cup 2008, though.

  • que grande marat

  • did safin lose that point where he dove because his racquet flew and hit the net?

  • he won it

  • is nalbandian vs safin

    lol

  • why?

  • nalbandian hoy en dia esta mejor ubicado q safin

  • Nalbandian tiene talento para ser uno de los 5 o 6 mejores pero para mi safin es aun mas talentoso.

  • high quality match

    too bad for safin though

  • dude if u dont have consistency ull never be in the top of anything fact!!!

  • they are my HEROES!!!! i wish i had their backhands =.=

  • I don´t think so

I think Roddick and Safin are the most frightening players.

In the case of Nalbandian you can attack his serve, but with Roddick and Safin ,when they play their best there´s nothing someone can do

  • Roddick can't even compare.

  • yeah i'd say thats true about safin. when hes playing well, which unfortunately isnt that often, he can beat anybody.

  • Roddick can´t even compare to Nalbandian.

Yeah, you´re right. There´s no comparison between an ex n1 and grand slam champion and Nalbandian.

  • If you are talking about at the moment. Roddick's results as of late have shown that. Nalbandian's results have also been poor, but like Safin, he has a chance to let his talent shine.

  • Roddick isnt in the same league as nalbandian and safin. Im not talking about results, im talking about talent. Roddick is great but if all players were playing at their BEST it would rank nalbandian 1st, safin 2nd n roddick third. Roddick is a good player but if they were all playing their best he wouldnt stand a chance against these two. Talent and results are two very different things.

  • the most dangerous players on tour... just need a lil more consistency and they up there with federer

  • To me safin and nalbandian are the best players on the tour, even though safin isn't playing his best at the moment. I really hope that safin wil l be back in top 10 soon, cause safin, nalbandian and murray have the best game for me.

  • This was definitely one of the best matches of 2006.

  • nalbandians prob the most talented player after fed...id say even more so than nadal.. for some reason he doesnt seem to be able to hold it together long enough..

  • It's all mental.

  • safin dident win !?!?!? xD

  • Cañas mejor que Nalbi CUAK!!

  • safin all the way

  • the point at 3.25 is just unbelievable from safin !!

  • a mi no me gusta Nalbandian, porque el es sobrado, se cree mucho el cuento de que el es mejor que los demás, para mi Cañas es mejor que Nalbandian.

  • Safin is my favorite but he is a great loser!

  • Safin and Nalbandian are more talented than Federer, Nadal and Djokovic. Fed, Nadal and Djo are more regular.

  • i wouldn't say so. When talking about talent we're mostly talking about technique wise. When u first seen Federer u knew he was already something special. Federer, Nalbandian and Safin talents are on the same line.

  • On pure talent alone Fed is still the greatest although Safin & Nalbandian are no doubt his closest rivals in that regard (very close indeed). As GyariSan said, Fed's natural technique is just too crisp in every department. Naturally, Fed's every shot barring his bachand is better than these guys.

  • why would he want tobe like canas. david has been 3 in the world and made it to the semis of every slam. canas has never been past a quarter final. david has had a better career than canas so why should he try to be lie someone who is less talented and does nothing but moonball and run down shots

  • both of them have the potential to compete at the same level as federer, nadal, djokovic.. they just don't try that hard, look at nalbandian he has just won ATP Madrid 2007 beating the best 3 players :P

  • david sos lo mas grande que hay te banco a muerte

  • Its too bad that these two players have not done more with their careers. They are truly great players.

  • two heroes ! amazing match

  • C'mon David.. i want to see this celebration in the Davis Cup Final... un grande...
