No, this is a pretty typical way of russian driving. There are no traffic rules, nobody obeys them anyway, and when you're not used to it, it's a chaotic hell and you have to be either very careful or very experienced if you don't want to have to buy a new car every 6 months.

i'm from croatia, and we aren't the peaceful sort of drivers. we don't utilize the principle seen here, and that's maybe even better. who knows what would happen.

this sort of traffic manipulation is normal. i first saw it in belgrade, but over there they have displays hanging over the road and they say which lane is for which direction. very handy, i must say. and innovative.

I am latin and went to Russia. Guys were very mean to us always, only a very few were nice from the first moment. You need to know how to talk to them, you need to try being a latin (being warm) and perhaps they give you a chance. If they dont, do not insist because you could get them annoyed.
