Late. Yeah. A hit? Not really. More of a shove. He didn't lay his body into him and finish, more shoved off of him to make a break on the play and in the process disrupt Pacioretty's ability to move up on the play. Intention has to be factored in when you talk about a sport allowing someone to break an opponents neck. I know of no sport that allows such a thing. Now does it happen as a result of legal actions? Sure. Also, UFC is an organization not a sport. The sport is MMA.

But as for having a bit of class, Max saw him coming, this was a shoulder to shoulder hit BUT it was in the wrong place in the arena, and max just happend to catch his head and it did not break his neck, it fractured a couple vertebrae and something else. If it just broke his neck, they'd give him pain meds and he'd be out of the hospital and probably back to hockey (practicing) by now.

UFC is not a sport, it is an organization. Kind of like NFL is not a sport. However, MMA is indeed a sport, kick boxing is a sport, boxing is a sport, Muay Thai, Wrestling and Jiu Jitsu. They are all sports. - an activity involving physical exertion and skill where an individual or team competes against another individual or team. Hockey is definitely on the higher end of physical contact with football, rugby and lacrosse. MMA and fighting sports are the only ones higher.

Though there is going to be no way to prove whether the hit was intentional or not, there was definitely malice behind what Chara did, there was history between the two players and it was a late hit, and you'd hope a player like him would know about that particular part of the boards and would look to avoid it, I don't think he did...but on the other hand Pacioretty has to be aware of the D-mans position at all times, so he could also have avoided this hit.

If you watch Chara new exactly where the boards started and new exactly who was skating with him and knew he had no chance to catch Pacioretty if he got by him so the only way to stop him was that. I am also a lifelong Bruins fan and hockey player. I agree with the earlier poster who said this is part of hockey. There was no intent! @lt6501 that hit would not have been dangerous anywhere else on the ice. It happens all the time. It wasn't directed to the head, he edged him out with his shoulder. Chara engaged (made contact) when the puck was no more than 15 feet away (meaning a second earlier and this wouldn't even have been interference.) I'm not justifying the hit and I feel terrible about the injury, but the league's ruling was fair. Hopefully Pacioretty will make a full recovery and be able to forgive.
