do you ever play on a 12 string? i think that would sound amazing...possibly the only thing that could maybe sound better than this haha i can only dream to be as talented as you one day but no one gets this good without practice right?
dude you got a special gift. i've had a really trying month and this song made the thought of all that go away for a few glorious moments. keep it up. thank you.
@Tranxhead Apart from that, it would be near impossible to sing to this style of paly without dumbing down the actual instrumental itself. As someone who plays like Erik, we change time signatures and keys very quickly and frequently that a conventional singer would have an almost impossible time trying to keep not only in time, but in pitch. Also, why put words to music that speaks for itself ;D
people really suck, except this guy (erik). and i know what i'm saying cause this is youtube and of course i know what i'm talking about.... and i know everything, but yes again, this guy is great, and i would love jam along with some drums or percussion. all the haters should post a reply with a song of their own. only then will anyone believe you. WHO GIVES A DAMN HOW HE LEARNED IT, HE'S CREATING SOMETHING GREAT

I really do hate the sound out of that carbon fibre acoustic, it just sounds wrong for what he's playing to my ears, a wooden acoustic sounds so much more full and organic
@Rg1527 My instrument of choice is my 12 string Gibson 185 jumbo... I think I have good taste in tone... Carbon Guitars is more of an aquired taste, but to imply it is somehow bad is just stupid =/
@bourky93 Im not "implying" it sounds bad, Im making a statement. Carbon fibre guitars to my ear sound bad. thats what im saying. Genuinely cant belive youve gotten so offended by this you felt the need to justify yourself.
@Rg1527 This is Youtube, buddy. You can't go on any video and say something without someone who knows something not agreeing with you every now and a again. I would not go as far to say that I was "offended" though :S
i wont lie when i first saw this guy, especially reunion island airtap, i got chills wide eyed and was like holy shit :o i feel his music and its so different and unique. great job 5/5
I bet this guy would slay in another incarnation as a ragtime pianist. This just goes to show that the guitar is an instrument of infinite jest. It will take you as far as you are capable of going. This guy is doin it. Jus say'n.
its not the instrument. remember that it isn't the instrument who takes the player but the player who takes the instrument. it does indeed show how creative you can get and further prove that playing textbook styles will get you nowhere
well, yeah...The whole point is the crazy dude with his hands on the thing. Some people can eat textbooks for lunch and then digest and fracture and grind musical history into a dinner of epic gastronomic rumble. This dude may be one of them. He brings it to the instrument. But the instrument helps him make it real. Again, I'm jus say'n. Much as you say'n.
along with that the carbon fiber is said to have a better resonance hence the echo like sound which picks up the harmonics better which erik favors in his style
Do you know of any specific stores in ontario that might carry your CD Fates? ~ Savez-vous de magasins spécifiques à Ontario qui pourrait porter votre CD Fates?
Anyone got any ideas of the tuning of this piece? I've tried looking everywhere and didn't think to ask Erik when I met him a couple of time in the UK.
Trace Bundy is brilliant, and it was thru checking him out on You Tube that I came across this video .. Erik is a master of this style. Absolutely brilliant. Fast, nimble fingers, great rhythm and timing. A joy to listen to and watch. Good work.
Merveilleux, Erik. Too bad about the Guild, though. Rainsong composites work well for you, but there's something about the real wood (as on "Airtap") that I'm going to miss.
definitely has hedges influence, i feel it!

Mongrain takes the guitar and turns it into something I would never have imagined. It's like a piano, guitar, and drums all rolled into one.
He plays with so much soul and emotion. He's a musical genius.

Is this the mysterious "third" lap tapping song i've heard erik mention in passing?
Not that this song isnt class, but you can see how restrictive this style is, a lot of the rhythms from airtap and persusienfa carry over
Still awesome though!

at least it's not as restrictive as the whole pop rock industry has made the guitar. lol.

im sure a chorus pedal helps but then it can also be said that a number of echo and sweep pedals as well

hes got a chorus, what appears to be a phaser, a compressor, and a delay, hence the echo
