  • love the melody on this. I remember playing this song (and despora) again n again not knowing it was Lauren Hill singing at the end.

  • I know in creole "Sang" means "Belt"

  • That guy is to much . There is actually the lyrics and the translation of the song in the description area, check it out As I was reading it I was wondering how " de pye kole " would be translated . Priceless .

Appreciate the effort you put into it tho, awesome work.

  • Just found out the chords for the chorus (if someone needs them):

    Am C Dm Am

    Am G E E

    Am C Dm F

    Am E Am Am

    (the rest is always Am)

  • Lauryn Hill has one of the most beautiful voices in the history of singers.

  • @maddogstuff99 Too BloodClaat True,Its Up there With Dennis Brown,Bob Marley,Ottis Redding,Sam Cooke. Ext Ext

  • ok i am yer typical .....slipknot , nofx, misfits......lamb of god fan........but i tell u man this song album,,,,,,the group fugees. an others like them make people see and hear music for all its worth, what i am saying is music is universal.....no its eternal. so no matter what color...creed......or what ever, there are songs artists that make you feel like a souloutin not a problem...so hear what makes you feel and feel what you want to hear and as long as it has a beat.

  • Can Someone Please Tell Me What This Means In English. I Brought The Carnival Album And I Liked It. I Didn't Know What The Hell He Was Saying But I Loved The Beat And I Wanted Someone Then To Tell Me What He Was Saying.

  • @KenOctavia05232010 if u had clicked under description, you would have seen the whole song's translation. :)

  • Lauryn sounds sooo good. Encore Encore

  • "SANG FEZI " It should actually be SAN FIZI in creole

which mean UNARMED ( lacking of weapon)

  • nop lets not call it fugees album......call it wyclef album!!!

  • I always condemned Lauryn for racism, but I begin to see a refugee/new citizen in Our Country has no choice, when under siege by systemic societal hate. I loved this jam for the sound, but knowing the meaning is almost too much to bear.

  • @greenpinkyellow lauryn was never racist to begin with....that was just the media sticking their filth in the heads of many individuals to brainwash them into hating sombody else.

    its commonly done....

  • I'm 100% haitian but even I know Wyclef is very good, but Lauryn Hill is great

  • @tpopol I agree!!!!

  • Perfect song.

    What to do with Jerusalem?

  • Kwadèbouke Kwadèbouke tendé

  • san fizi= without a gun!

  • Love that song, love wyclef !!!

  • kote moun yo woy, mwen pa we moun yo woy!!!! love that part

  • this is my favorite song on the album. Is there anywhere I could find more music with the same flavor?

  • magnifique....dédicace au peuple Haïtien qui morfle en ce moment......

  • Much luv Lauryn Hill, Much luv Clef, thx for ur music

  • If someone translated this song I would be eternally grateful.

You don't need to know the language to appreciate music.

  • @cetnikz the whole song is translated in the description. :)

  • @cetnikz There is a translation in the description , but some words and Idea say and rest in the Haitian folklore there is just no word to embrace the equivalent in any other language. P.S ( de pye kole translated both feet together is actually a two feet jump kick in general aiming for the chest )

  • Haitian Creole is as easy and as difficult to learn as any other language. Stop the ignorance people please.

  • Love that !

  • gen de ayisyen kap di mwen mache an france san fizi mesye mwen di nou manti

  • this song epsecially Lauryn Hills part reminds me of House of the rising sun from the animals. Geez, the fugees are just incredible.

  • HOW DOES SHE DO THAT??

HOW CAN SHE POSSIBLY MAKE SUCH A STRONG MESSAGE WITH JUST A FEW WORDS THAT MAKE UP A VERSE

    GENIUS

  • @rn1432 "Se nan yon ti bal mwen tapwal la pou' cheke on ti zen

(I was going to a party to check the 411)"

"I was going to the dance to check out Zin" as in the band Zin" a little lost in translation

  • wow <3

  • killa BASS

  • respect fpr haiti guys

  • good song guys

  • ure right carnival is the mack

  • Thank you for posting the lyrics And the translation. I really like this language, its the coolest type of French.

  • Prezidan mwen pa vle prezidan ou????????? ayitien bredrens open yo eyez ras....

  • @mikerasta84p Word up!

  • I:21-1:23 i GUESS NOT!!!

  • I had a haitian roomate in college ma freshman year in 98 so u know this joint was on 24 hr rotation.lol

  • classic....love it

  • i like hit

  • love this song

  • this song is the shit even tho i have no idea what there saying

  • does this song sound like the wild west meets hip hop to anyone else? whenever i hear it i want to reach for my six shooters.

  • fuckin awesome ...haven´t heard this in years

  • @melijah77 thats whats up man. peeps thing that haitians are walkin in the streets without no passport and odd things about us and its a lie thats what clef is saying

  • big love to my man WYCLEF JEAN. REALEST HAITIAN ALIVE*****

  • Lauryn Hill... Amazing as always...!

  • @melijah77

Wyclef speaks on 1st part about his refugee haitian life in USA, about his culture and the hard life with drug, police etc.... During the 2nd part his speaks, it's a sort of egotrip, pretty meanless.... ;-)

  • Damn good song....i remember geeking out on this track when i was like 13 years old

  • this was a damn good album when it dropped...i was hella young but i geeked out to this track daily

  • I love this song! Fugees were the best... I understand what Wyclef says but i can't understand what Laury Hill says. I am french, so can someone please can put in words what Lauryn songs?

  • Lauryn says:"then we should know, that one day we all go, so keep your head to the sky. The path we refuse is the path we should choose. Take a while to take you down. Traduction si tu n'avais pas compris:" Un jour on partira tous, d'ou garde ta tete au ciel, le chemin quel'on devrait prendre est le chemin que l'on refuse. Prendre du temps de t'abbatre". Easy does.....

  • OK thank you for the translation, i understand english pretty well, but it's sometimes hard to listen and translate a song in another language. I understand better by reading. Thank you again anyway.

  • No problems but if you want to improve your listening like me you need to move to an English speaking country and being exposed to the spoken English. I realised in France they insist too much on grammar, writing English but almost no time in listening, talking...Germans and Dutch speak English as a second language easily. That song is quite interesting and Lauryn voice is so great...Fugees where u at?!

  • kwa de boukeee!!!

  • LOVE this song. Wyclef is genious and Laureen has a wonderful voice!

  • nice song..

  • Is fezi a direct translation for gun? Or is it slang?

  • Fézi = Haitian Creole

Fusil = the word for "gun" in standard French.

    Phonetically, they're the same.

"Sang Fézi" in Haitian Creole = "Sans fusil" in standard French. Although in standard French, the word "sang" means "blood".

  • Ah I see, double meaning there. Thanks!

  • @rhapsody710

    san fezi= without a gun

"Ki ayisien kap di'm map mache New-York san fezi ..." TRANSLATION = "which haitian is saying that i'm walking in New York without a gun...."

  • @rhapsody710

Actually it's suppose to be " San Fizi " the Vowel " u " is nonexistent in Haitian creole .(look it up)

But yeah the equivalent in french is SANS FUSIL or rather non-armé here.

SAN FIZI french SANS FUSIL( non armé) english UNARMED ( lacking of weapon )

  • @Babouzi ya ,u got it

  • @rhapsody710 I think the Haitians say ' san fizi'. There is no "é" in Creole. But great job anyways

  • @castellane20 ou ja sav!!

  • @rhapsody710 The correct spelling in creole is : San Fizi.

"san" is from the French "sans" which means "without' ,not French word "sang" which "blood"

"fizi" is also from the French "Fusil" which means" rifle".

"san fizi" mean without a gun.

Wyclef says:"Ki ayisyen kap vin mache NY san fizi " meaning " What haitian would walk the street of NY without a gun"

then "Mwen di-ou manti" , translate to " I would say you are lying"

I use to teach creole literature in Haiti, I couldn't let this pass

  • @ettolebe FINALLY! Pale Kreyol!!!!!

  • @ettolebe i thought the word was feze and that it ment faith and san was blood. i dont speak french so i guessed

  • mwen gen yon sheval ki vole shak swa !!!!!!

  • Not gibberish. Haitian Creole.

  • Ignorant comment. Get a life retard.

  • Loved the numbers sung/rapped in creole on this album! Don't understand creole but disappointed he hasn't released more songs/albums or a Wyclef presents album in creole!!!!

  • @Jboogie73 wyclef got an album in creole its called welcome to haiti

  • ki ayisien kap di map mache new york san fezi niween di ou messie nou menti

  • he has

  • Comment removed

  • wyclef mwen se ayisien mwen viv saint domingue, chate sa bel anpil

  • Fuck off you pasty face prick no one asked your racist ass to watch this video

  • very nice, i like this. i'll call it a fugees song anyways

  • Carnival is the best Fugees album -- yeah yeah it gives top billing to Clef but it wouldn't be what it is without the rest. Let's be real and call it a Fugees album.

  • @theominousthey your wrong fam Clef is God

  • @minrehotep9 Nah, B. Clef ain't God but he is extremely talented. But on the Mike, Lauryn is a better MC and singer. She brings the real EMCEE out of Clef.

  • @theominousthey Nah, B. I have to disagree. the Score was slightly better. Only slightly! And you are right. The Carnival is a Fugees Album.

  • @theominousthey It wasn't a Fugee album, it was Wyclef's solo album.

  • @theominousthey I AGREE!

  • @theominousthey naaa..the score was the best! wicked!

  • one of the best

  • The Carnival is my favorite album, and all songs are fantastic, but this one I can listen to over and over even though I know not a word of Hatian French Creole

  • NOU-BOM-KON

  • Mwen di ou messie nou menti :]

  • man I love lauryn, love that voice. thanks for this jam.

  • this is a wicked song! Thank you so much for posting it!!! I love it... Wow, it's genius.

  • Perfect when Lauren comes in...

  • Some of the translations are off. For example, neg which you translated as "nigger" doesn't carry the same negative connotation the latter word does in the US. Neg has even lost its mention of color as non-black people in Haiti even get called neg with no afterthought. Even though technically, neg means negro, it's more of an affectionate term to mean "guy".

  • neg in creole actually is like saying man

  • Is there a grand difference between man and guy that I'm not aware of?

  • im not to sure to be honest

  • like an american in Haiti is a blan no matter what his/her color

  • ....U know there are two countries with the name Niger in it?

  • ah, very enlightening, thanks!

  • Amazing! I love you Wyclef! God bless you!

  • It's a classic

  • bkn! tema de recuerdos.

  • Which haitian says i walk in New-York without a gun.

I tell you man y'all lying

When the bum catches you they eat you up it's when you die the police comes

I tell you man y'all lying

While standing on flatbush i saw the a cop comin'

He said i'm selling drug I told man you're lying

  • Chante sa a se pi bon pi chante kreyol!!

  • I don't speak Creole, pero this song is on fire. sapase nebule

  • I love this song! It's a gospel song (the part Lauryn is singing).

  • "Kréyol, sé idantité an nou

Nou ka manjé kréyol, nou ka pansé kréol

Kréoyol sé kilti an nou, é dè sa nou fiè

Kréyol, sé sa nou yé , sé sa nou ké rété."

    Admiral T

  • ou ja sav ça boug mwen!! ça sé an ti message original ba toute sé neg creole come from caribean !! tendé!!!!

  • its creol not latin dumb asses

  • no need to curse!

  • lauryn hill is SICK!

  • I have no idea what Clef is saying but I love the latin rhythm and flow!

  • my dad is from martinique patois or creole is such a wicked language fat tune big up from the netherlands

  • if u wanna translate the lyrics u must look for Haïtian Creol translation ! i know 'cause i'm french west indian from Martinique !

  • Anyone have a better translation then? I understand some from speaking French, but still want to know the rest.

  • I can send the translations if you want:D. Some of his translations are good, just not very well formed. Not all the sentences make sense.

  • True! Cause Clef is haitian and he don't speak good creole! wow that's a damn shame!

  • There is No Good Creole, It all depends on where you come from. For instence For haitian, he speaks good creole, but not so good For Madagascar. But that Doesn't make the Haitian creole bad nor the madagascar creole bad. It changes where you came from, just like french or english. I can Translate that song for you and you'll see it makes perfect sense because this is how i speak creole.

  • I agree with you! But I'm saying that for someone like me who was born in Haiti and lived there longer than Clef did, it's difficult for me sometimes to understand the way he speaks. If I didn't read the lyrics of thi song, i wouldn't understand some of the things he says.

  • @mihiva In that sense yah i agree with you, therefore you should say he doesnt speak good haitian creole. I grew up in Haitiy too longer than he did, but i do understand, and to me, he speaks a good american dispora creole, but not the same creole as haitian in montreal, or haiti speaks ...Certainly not enough creole to be president, that we can agree on lool

  • @otbway

You a little off with your comment, because Haitian Kreyol, isn't any other Creole language, but that doesn't mean you can't speak it poorly. i think you got it a little messed up. Like Cape Verdian creole is completely different. Creole only mean mix. Kreyol is the Haitian mix. And Clef, someone who is a complete Diaspora, he does speak it poorly, for a Haitian, his Kreyol is Americanized like crazy, he's got bad diction, etc.

  • nah, u can't say it's a shame, because as he speaks it well, just not perfectly!

  • i love this song!!!!!

  • I wasn't going to be rude, but I noticed the same thing donald lol......... Think they are from a website..........Which was taken from another website...........which was taken from another website.......... lol

  • some of your translations are way off

  • i love dis song and i acually kno wut he saying most parts ...i not fluent yet but getting there

  • Much respect to L Boogie. There's no fugees without L. Boogie

  • exactly my thought :)

  • lauryn is from heaven

  • Creole=hard language to learn. Not many speakers in America. It is becoming more common though^.^. It's an amazing song if you can understand the lyrics, or well...... even if you can't. Thx for posting!

  • @Topshotm8ker one of the easiest most phonetically simple languages to learn

  • I've had this song stuck in my head since 1997. 11 years. haha (wow! Where did the time go??)

  • lauryn is an angel !

  • Thanks for posting this song. I love the song I love the Album even more, Wish Clef could make another Album like the Carnivol. Ah how I miss 1997

  • thx for the translation...

  • big up on the translation. been curious since a child

  • its not new its on the carnival album good music is timeless my friend!
