I remember looking for a microphone for CES this past January. The Mikey was at the top of the list, until I found out that it doesn't work on newer iOS devices, so I went with the MityMic instead.
That's rather dissapointing, I'm sure i have read on the Blue website that the Mikey doe's not work with the iPhone 4 at all but should work with the iPod Touch, Very strange that it did not work on the Latter device, Maybe this only work's on the 3g/3gs and iPod Touch 3rd gen ?, I do have to agree though with RobinScott93 that you should have tried this out and realised what was what before posting a negative video on the product ?,I have been thinking of getting this to compare it to my AT2020
@pimpyouriphone3g You know I can't win… I post a positive review and get people annoyed for being too enthusiastic. Post a semi-positive one with a few negatives & get complaints. Then this one, good product but doesn't work with latest gen products, so quite negative, people aren't happy. :( :( :( The whole point of my reviews is to post whether positive or negative otherwise they have no value to the viewer :( sorry rant over :)
@davomrmac I don't think you can compare this review to other reviews because you've yet to use the product. I've always believed that the best way to review a product is to imagine that you had bought the product but only just had enough money to buy it. Then ask, 'would I be happy with this purchase?'. In this instance, you would be entitled to a replacement, at no charge. Coupled with the knowledge that faulty items will always unfortunately exist, this shouldn't be much of a complaint.
@RobinScott93 This product is not faulty, it just does not support the latest generation iDevices, which is a big shame on the part of the manufacturer.
@davomrmac Oh, I was under the impression that the microphone was simply not working. I just checked the website and you're right, the latest gen iPod touch and iPhone are not supported. In that case, I'd like to ask why you reviewed it at all. The CEO of Blue Microphones notes, in a message, that the product is currently working on products that are compatible with the latest generation of iDevices. Listen to it; it's at the bottom of the overview page for the Mikey on Blue's website.
@RobinScott93 Yes, I saw that, but then why submit a product for review to a techie that will want/expect it to work on latest gen products. Oh well, I will happily retest when they update it, as I was so looking forward to checking the audio quality out.
@davomrmac I realise now that this is all just a big case of misunderstanding. Perhaps in the review you could have explained at the start that the device wasn't compatible with the latest gen iDevices but still give a physical overview of the product after which you could have mentioned that in a future video you hope to review the mic quality when Blue releases an updated compatible mic.
@davomrmac Right i get your point, I take everything back, Sorry jumped in at the deep end without thinking first, I see after you explaining that yes there are some downside's to this Mic and rightly so, Sorry Dave, Did not mean no disrespect to you or your video, As for those idiot's who moan about you being over excited, Forget them, I find it a good point to have, As i know your being 100% Genuine, not trying to put on a false act or something, Sorry Dave :(
@pimpyouriphone3g No no, never apologise, as everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I really appreciate all comments and feedback and you are someone who I sit up and take notice of. Keep 'em coming.
I think it was a bit unfair to post this review knowing that the device didn't work. Clearly you just have a faulty unit. A small percentage of all electronic products from any manufacturer will be faulty; you were just one of the few unlucky people to receive a non-operational microphone.
Also, that 3.5mm is surely a headphone jack; when the 'Mikey' is on an iPod touch, it obscures the headphone jack on the iPod so the 3.5mm jack is just a line-in extension.
@RobinScott93 You know I can't win… I post a positive review and get people annoyed for being too enthusiastic. Post a semi-positive one with a few negatives & get complaints. Then this one, good product but doesn't work with latest gen products, so quite negative, people aren't happy. :( :( :(
That is a real shame- I was lookinh forward to an audio sample. Blue really disappointed me today. Anyway, I am probably going to get this if I ever would have to do another project again, as I used my iPod's built-in microphone to do it. Good to see a review, although disappointing. : /
Oh dear , some body at that company is gonna get their backsides cracked, major fail.. Nice gadget tho . Probably better off with one of those thumbtack mic's and the free app
@jdivina15 There's lots of different stories as to why it was named apple. I hope that in Steve's Actual Biography (the official one from him, not a 3rd party one) he will explain the real story why it was named apple. There seems to be so many stories but no straight answer.
@NZappletech great, i was thinking why is it called blue, i'm not thinking of apple right now, it's mics, i don't see anything that has to do with blue
