What a delight!!! One of my classmates at college, a wonderful baritone, sang this in masterclass the other day and introduced me to it; it's so much fun! And Villazon performs it charmingly, he really gets across the excitement of the song.
Love it !!!!!! I find it sad when people bad mouth other tenors/baritones/ etc. No one will be to everyone's taste but we should be grateful we are able to hear so many different opera singers-each has that little touch of quality. Just enjoy their God given voices.
This is a lovely interpretation! It has humor and Rossini's music is in this case about humor, fun and joy. Before this recording there was only one I found that it had character, that one of Carreras. I love Pavarotti's voice but I consider this interpretation is the best of this piece posted so far, it makes me want to stand up and jump around of joy!
In my own, and modest, opinion I think that one of the most qualified to be given the "unnoficial" but well deserved title of "king of Tenors", would certainly be Rolando Villazon. He's the best all around musician I have seen in this past years and would certainly be a very worthy succesor to the standards and musicianship of the great and magnificent Placido Domingo. I could even dare to call him "The Placido of the XXI Century".
breathtaking genius at work - he should play around with the jazz for a bit and take his time getting back to this peak.
Writers should lay siege to his stage manager with librettos written for him to sing.
First rate fashion model too - about time some Italian fashion house sponsored him as a role model for Italian youth today, as an alternative to omnipresent football.
Definetely the best voice of the current tenors!!! And hopefully he´ll achieve to become the best in history. This version of La Danza is so fresh, so cool...insuperable!!! And all those guys who get angry when he sings like this is because they are jealous and simply cannot bear that a new age for the opera has arrived since this man arrived to scene.

Inquisitive..there's no reason to start writing about his singing.his behaviour on the stage is enouth.once again we can see a clown. He must be thinking and wise person so what for he's making fool of himself? His every Danza looks like this one,I can't understand it

By the way, after a full year's sabbatical leave, Villazon AGAIN cracked in Don Carlo...LoL Pathetic!By age 36, he cracked more than Pavarotti & Corelli whose combined career spans at least 65-70 years of singing LoL...That's what happens when a Kermit tries singing opera! LoL

Enough is enough. The Italian repertoire has been under assault for 4 decades by the likes of Domingo, Carreras, Villazon and Vargas. Either sing like Fleta, Kraus or Aragall, or don't for heaven's sake. A throaty and hooted voice sounds simply BAD in the Italian repertoire!
The voice(vote) of Pavarotti is very very beautiful, but I prefer that of the Domingo who is less Italian; each the tastes!
Your comments on Villazon, are aggressive and almost impertinent "Kermit"! Oh!. A little of correction please. He(it) annoys you, the other musicians like(love) him(it); then that is enough, enough now.
Depends on what you expect. I don't like seeing the beautiful Italian repertoire degraded. Neither Domingo nor Villazon are artistically well developed. Their singing technique is fundamentally flawed. What they do is disservice to opera. I don't know to which musicians you're referring. Actually, they're a joking matter among the inner core of opera because of the very reasons on which I have been opining.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I find it pitiful that Villazon cracked 2 times in one aria yet again in Don Carlo after 1 year sabbatical leave. The idea was for him to rest and work on his technique. He will soon average a crack for every role he sung, and will break a record before his 4oth b-day. In the olden days, people applauded excellence. Now, people like your demand mediocrity it seems. Lowered expectations, from mediocre people?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Another example from Kermit how to mess up a beautiful tarantella napoletana with his hooted, throaty, monochromatic and pushed voice. Why is it that he insists on decimating the beautiful Italian repertoire, requiring a bright and resonant voice which is full with harmonics? This is a shameful and cheap rendition of La Danza. Go watch Pavarotti in recital with Wustmann for a perfect rendition.
