If it hadn't been for foreign intervention during the American war of independence i.e. the aid of France, Spain and the Netherlands there would be no USA. Without intervention in WW2 from the UK, commonwealth countries, France, and the US, Hitler may have won the war. Lots of countries don’t gain anything from intervention but that isn't the point. We didn't gain anything out of that war, in fact we lost our Empire, but we did what we did because it was right.

Also the war wasn't about oil either. The US could have bought the entire Iraqi oil supply a couple times over with the money they have spent on the war (assuming of course that Saddam would sell it). Also the oil since then has been SOLD by the Iraqi's; 3/4 to Asia and about 1/4 of the export to Europe.

If it hadn't been for foreign intervention during the American war of independence i.e. the aid of France, Spain and the Netherlands there would be no USA. Without intervention in WW2 from the UK, commonwealth countries, France, and the US, Hitler may have won the war. Lots of countries don’t gain anything from intervention but that isn't the point. We do it because it is the right thing to do.

@phillipmarch22 I hope you don't mind me branching off on the WW2 aspect of this but I would like to add that my country (the UK) intervened and stood next to Poland and fought the Nazi's even when Hitler held out an olive branch, even when he tried to invade and even when he bombed our cities and killed thousands of our people, we stood firm and continued to fight him. We didn't gain anything out of that war, in fact we lost our Empire, but we did what we did because it was right.

Also the war wasn't about oil either. The US could have bought the entire Iraqi oil supply a couple times over with the money they have spent on the war (assuming of course that Saddam would sell it). Also the oil since then has been SOLD by the Iraqi's; 3/4 to Asia and about 1/4 of the export to Europe.
