Mick Hucknall was at this gig...you can spot him in the footage of Garageland from this same Channel 4 Punk documentary...fronted by the late great Tony Wilson
I bumped into Mick jones a few years ago and kind of recognised him but couldn't place the face. I was running some practice rooms and he was there to see a band he was managing. So he says I'm looking for the Libertines and I was like, oh yeah they are in there, just packing up. At the time I thought it was one of their Dads come to see the band. A week later another guy there was saying he'd been talking to Mick Jones and I was gutted cos I realised who he was.
I once attended a solo-performance of Fred Kienhuis, singer-guitarist of Dutch band The Jack of Hearts. When he ended his concert and came back for some extras he asked if there were any requests. I knew he was a Clash fan so I shouted "Janie Jones", even though I wasn't sure he could play that. He smiled & said "Janie Jones, that's a long time ago" & then he started: "She's in love with the rock & roll world". I love that man and of course I love The Clash, one of the best rockbands ever!
shame on you, you call yourself a clash fan and you have no idea of janie jones lyrics: "she's in love with rock & roll world", no wonder you went to a fred kienhuis show.
if joe were alive he would be kicking the living shit out of you
Awesome twist when Mick Jones sings the last part.I think that is what sets the clash apart from other punk bands. The other punks bands would have keep on with the chorus.
The Clash were great in the studio, no question, but they flat out kicked ass on stage. They never held back anything and poured their guts out every show (especially Joe).
So good, it's shame that I'm too young to have seen them live. I've only ever came across one live band that have put a decent effort towards recreating this punk energy, if only there were more like them.
Cheer's for posting this,,,,it brings back so many memories,,,I was one of the crowd
33 years later and stilll Buzzing,,,R.I.P Joe Strummer and cheers for the music you made alot of people very Happy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

without the Ramones the Clash would just be a another lost poster bill.
angrydog1295 2 years ago
The Clash were inspired by The Ramones, but that doesn't make them inferior. Neither band sustained the brilliance of their first couple of years.
petercrowley41 2 years ago 4
Well, since the clash were already playing together after the ramones made it in the UK i'd have to disagree. The ramones did inspire a lot of bands and they helped boost the whole punk movement. Thats like saying that without MC5 the ramones would be another lost poster bill.
