Of course James White does not deal with the glaring problem that all protestants hold to sola scriptura and all protestant scholars perform exegesis. Yet they still disagree on many things. Many would say that James White doesn't exegete consistently, particularly Arminians. I would say that James White brings his own biases to scripture, as we all do to some extent...
... But I think that Rob Bell's notion that Love Wins is biblical and historic, particularly from an Eastern Orthodox perspective. If there is one sure principle taught in scripture, that is that God is love. And love is the standard for all Christian behavior. All doctrine should be viewed under this principle. It's ppl like White who need to explain why penal sub atonement didn't appear until 1094AD. White needs to explain why Calvinism was absent until the reformation....
... There needs to be some acknowlegement that he comes to scripture with preconceived ideologies and to some extent imposes his views on scripture. Most of us do this to some extent. How, then, does one interpret scripture "consistently"? What then of Sola Scriptura? How did this function in the early church when the New Testament had not been formed?
Go on a spiritual journey. Read the books of CS Lewis, Jarslav Pelikan, GK Chesterton, Karl Keating, Scott Hahn, Tim Staples. Had enough of the confusion, false teaching, etc? go to w w w . e w t n . c o m
@rangerdavie Why do you assume Bell is portrayed as an example of false teaching? I thought the video was only asking questions? There's nothing wrong with just asking questions, right? Questions don't mean anything after all. Dr White wasn't even addressing Rob Bell because the blurb says the video was recorded on February 9th - ages before the Bell advertising campaign started. And if Bell takes scriptural exegesis more seriously than anyone you know, you need to get to know more people
I appreciate your message. We should all be on the lookout for false teaching. I agree heartily with the importance of digging as deeply as possible into the roots of the scriptures to understand the context and original intent. I wonder, though, about the countless times in history where we have consistently gotten things wrong? I find it ironic that the person I know to take these matters more seriously than anyone I know is the subject of this video as an example of false teaching.
James White needs to debate ->"The Coming Home Network-Marcus Grodi" and lead him to the truth.
AMEN

Also, what is your response to the notion that unity is a far cry from agreement on all matters?
