If you know HTML you know XHTML, the only differences are the DOCTYPE line and that XHTML is stricter. You can't have open tags or capital letters for tags. and at the end of tags like line breaks, horizontal rules, etc. you have to put the / in front of the >.

In order to make site which is similar to FaceBook,Myspace etc..you will need team of really smart guys/girls, ton of money to pay all stuff and really really lot time.
